Again Anne expressed perfectly the way I feel. I think this group is as close as you can come to "know" someone on social media, but in the end it is still more your idea about another person than their true selfs (whatever that may be). So I found it kind of appropriate, that Josh came out with Murder in Pastel! :-)

Exactly what I thought. That it was "very Josh" to drop the veil with a clue like that. To let his readers unravel the mystery. And at the same time giving them a surprise gift in form of a lovely book. :-)

Very Josh and very clever.

Hugs coming your way. :-)"
Thank you, hugs from people I like are always welcome.

Thanks for the update, Johanna. And thanks for the additional note, Jo..."
Made me sad to read that this has made you sad, even if for a bit (i hope by now you are less sad, and hopefully not at all). And i wanted to share something about this particular point, about really feeling what someone who is part of a minority feels. I fell in love with Josh's writing in Fatal Shadows (and i confess that for a long time I was rather wishing a bit that Josh was Adrien or vice versa, just because I love Adrien so much, and well, I wanted this character to exist even more); but the deepest connection was forged for me in A Dangerous Thing when Adrien "ponders" the way cops address him (avoiding spoilers here) and it was as if someone reached into my heart and soul and knew - absolutely knew - what it's like. A small but powerful moment. So I felt then that Josh, whoever that person was, was amazingly insightful and sensitive. I think in general, we all have things that we feel nobody would understand exactly, and we might wish they would, and sometimes they do, and it's magical. And real. So anyway. Long day. Hopefully some of this makes sense. Hugs, Karen :-)

Guess Josh is not a 38ish, black-haired Irishman.
It was supposed to be a joke.

That there aren't even more new books to read? ;-)

Yes, it's makes sense and it's a lovely way to think of things. It made me smile, and I agree especially with this part of what you say, which is so very well said. Thank you.

LOL, Carlita. It took me a while to get use to the idea that Josh doesn't actually look like a handsome mix of Adrien and Kit. Hmmm... Although she does use those sexy reading glasses (just like Kit does). ;-)

For what it is worth, Sammie, I would like to tell you that one of the things I enjoy most about Josh's work is that what she writes and the voice she uses reminds me very much of my brother. He was a wonderfully romantic gay man. Once, while lamenting a break up he told me that it wasn't sex he missed. He had a lot of friends. He could have all the sex he wanted. What he missed was having some one to love him, to be there for him when he came home at night. All humans are different and yet connected just the same. :) As for my brother, to give you more a picture of him, he loved music, the symphony, and art. Yet he was just as much in love with fast cars and at times he worked for the government. He worked on secret stuff. Lol. He went to work for a time with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist with a gun in his coat. Not too unlike some of Josh's characters. :)

What a lovely post. What lovely memories to have of your brother, and (perhaps) somehow comforting to find correlation with Josh's characters.

Dear Josh, you are my auto-buy author ever since Adrien and his bookstore. I love, LOVE your work. It speaks in your name, what ever name you decide to use. It's your storytelling that speaks to me. Your gender is not a factor. Still my favorite author. All this noise is...just noise. Keep up the good work :-)!

The wave of condescending smugness I came across in various blog posts by male authors would indicate that it was a very good idea to opt for a male pen name. But I try to behave as Ije suggested in her wise post on the other thread and sit on my fingers - may the storm blow over soon...

You expressed yourself perfectly, Sammie.
And I must say, I love that you guys share your mixed feelings, your pondering here in Josh's living room, in the safe corner of internet universe. I admire your honesty. And your kind hearts.
Oh! And Sammie, write me a PM with your snail mail address in it — you were one of the Murder in Pastel print book winners in our surprise release party! :-)

Oh dear. I've practically sat on my fingers for a few days now even though I haven't read any of those blog posts about this whole thing. I already feel upset enough (because of the online overreaction) and I'm truly scared that if I read any of that shit I'll start posting comments that I'll regret later on. *sits on her hands again*

You keep on doing that. One only loses life time and energy in this kind of debates.

I went looking for those posts last night and all I got were ancient blog posts written by Josh from 2008. I was very curious to know what people were saying about Fanyons, ME, you know? Oh well. You're right, I'd better just sit on my hands and not read for fear I'd write things I'd regret too.

This was a nice and instructive interview. I also liked the comments section, even if some people had misgivings, they were respectful about it (mostly, a few exceptions) and agreed to disagree, which is the adult way of going about everything.

I'm finding it comforting that the blog posts still sound like Josh, and that every post I've read on here in the last couple of weeks with the open book and martini glass next to it still sounds like Josh. I know that she has said in her interactions with us she has always been herself, but I was imagining a shadowy figure at the office desk clicking away on the keyboard and gazing out of the window at a glitter-filled pool.... The figure is more defined now, but the words are the same. I can still hear Josh's voice. And the pool is still full of glitter - whose job was it to get that cleaned out?!?

The picture and the personality still is the same, the pool too :)
I put the glitter in the pool, for sure someone else must remove it! I can't do all the work around here! ;)

Luckily we still have a lot of time to clean up the pool before Josh comes back. And oh yes, Anne, you did work hard throwing all that glitter in there. Although I think Calathea helped a bit with the confetti, yes? :-)
So... who wants to help me take all the books out of the bookshelves to build a unicorn castle out of them for our sleepover?

YES! Sleepover! I'll bring unicorn-cookies. :D :D :D
While certain dear friends are making a mess, uh decorating festively, this reminded me of a nice outcome of the reveal — photos of Josh's/Diana's after the unpacking. Like that wet bar with the counter cleared, well except for important ingredients. : ) Let's just be sure we have everything back in place...

Heh. Yes, that Pimm's bottle made me smile when I saw these. :-)
Also, it's good to have those photos now when we've taken everything out of the bookshelves while re-decorating festively. :-D It's so much easier to put everything back to their places with the help of Diana Killian blog. :-)

By the way, I love how the unicorn castle is shaping up, Anne, Hambel, KC and Calathea. And what a great idea to bring the porcelain dog here to guard the castle doorway!
Next we need all the mattresses, blankets and pillows we can find. Hmmm...

Oh yes, where are all those vintage mysteries Josh was talking about?!?

Not telling.
*hides with a book and a flashlight under a blanket*

YOUUUUU!!! We're supposed to share, no? And you cannot read hundreds of vintage mysteries at the same time, so hand me at least one, will you please????
;-)

You could come into the blanket tent? Bring chocolate?

Deal! Hope Josh will not mind sticky chocolate finger prints all over the books, what do you think?
Varecia wrote: "Deal! Hope Josh will not mind sticky chocolate finger prints all over the books, what do you think?"
Oh LOL! No, I don't think Josh minds at all about minor things like that... ;-)
