I read it when I was 12. I could've read it when I was younger I think, but I was always more mature for my age. I think it definitely depends on what you can handle. Just know there's some heavier violence than some other young adult books, and each book in the trilogy is a little more violent. There is no sex, and the language is mild.

I read the Hunger Games series when I was twelve, and I understood it and it was not too hard to read for me at that age, so I think between the eleven and thirteen should be fine.
I would say 12 years old would be a good age, but if the reader in question is sensitive to violence it could be a bit much. That being said, when I read it in my young age it was my first exposure to dystopian society themes and I loved it!Still one of my favorite book series I've ever read, Catching Fire being my favorite book of the series (and yes, the book is far better than the movies). I actually gifted the first book to a cousin in law this year and I am really hoping he gets the same enjoyment out of it that I did.
I think a mature 11 year old could really enjoy catching fire, ( I know I did at the time). I say mature because of course, the hunger games series isn't *always* family friendly. I think if you can handle it thats the age you should start.
I watched the movie and read the books before I hit the age of 13. Sure, there's a lot of violence, but it kind of depends on the kid. If the kid can handle it, I say start letting them read it when then can and want to. But, if the kid can't understand or like violence, you should maybe keep it from them until they're 13. Then they can decide. Children cannot be protected forever and it is okay to be able to read these things if they understand it.
