Here are some further suggestions:
The Waiting Years by Fumiko Enchi (a modern Japanese writer, I have read one of her other books which AMAZING so I have high hopes for this one. Also, plot sounds interesting)

Possession by A.S. Byatt (young scholars researching Victorian poets.... sounds fabulous to me)

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides (I read Middlesex by the same author and really liked it so high hopes for good writing, and I feel like the plot of this book would provide a lot of discussion fodder)

I'd be up for Waiting Years, Possible Side Effects, and/or Possession. Insofar as suggestions, hmmmm . . . another Margaret Atwood novel? Perhaps Lady Oracle http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/47...
All of these books sound good.
I rank them by 'my want to read' as follows:
Lady Oracle
Possible Side Effects
The Waiting Years
Possession

I would love to read more Margaret Atwood! But would also understand if people wanted to keep things mixed up. I'm going to email these options to everyone.
We seemed set last time on Confederacy of Dunces for after To Kill a Mockingbird. I think we wanted to nix, for the time being, Q: A Novel and The Bone People.
One I'd like to propose: Possible Side Effects, by Augusten Burroughs, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61... (or I'd be up for re-reading Running with Scissors, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24...)
And does anyone have any thoughts on using this site/manner to have this kind of discussion?
