Is it worth sticking with this series? I read Among the Living and was kind of indifferent to it - but I was just coming off my high of the Cut & Run series so that might have coloured my impression of it. I think that while C&R was all about the relationship and the case aspect of it was flimsy, I felt the reverse for this.
This series is one of my most favorite series ever. The first is weaker as she was just getting started, so I would say yes it is worth sticking through. The story is about the characters as individuals and their growth and I would say the case/mystery and the relationship are each secondary to the character portion of the story. However, the romance definitely becomes more prominent in the later books -- b/c it becomes more important to Vic and the books are about him. I hope that helps your decision. ;)

I haven't started the Cut & Run series yet, so I can't compare. But I second everything Regina said. The first book was good enough, but the more I read the more hooked I got. I absolutely adore Vic and Jacob.
I was ambivalent about this series - they were all good reads, but not great reads (does that make sense)
Totally makes sense. I've read books that I felt similar about. For me, this series was un-put-down-able. I tried to read them slowly but still flew through them too fast.
Hey -- I am supposed to be working and not supposed to be here, but I just HAD to share this with you all -- Wendy did you see this in her newsletter? JCP writes in her newsletter about PsyCop:I appreciate that so many readers are eager for the next installment of PsyCop. While I don't have a release date yet, I can say it's the next project I'll put out.
I was talking with readers about the Crash's role in the PsyCop series, and why I've never seen him as a threat to Vic and Jacob's relationship.
Crash is not in the stories as competition for Jacob, but as a catalyst for Vic's self-reflection and growth. He represents a mirror to Vic, and he reflects an image of the road not taken. He's what Vic might have been, had Vic never gotten tangled up in Camp Hell.
AH! Thanks for posting that! I didn't see it! I can't WAIT for that next book.I've always seen Crash like that too. With Vic having had such a 'rock n roll' early years with the glue in his hair and his relationships... Crash always seemed like what Vic THOUGHT his type would be. I think he's attracted to Crash, but in how he was always attracted to guys like Crash. It shows Vic's growth.
So some Psycop news! First a deleted scene from #7!!: http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=6...
And yes that means that #7 is going to be published! JCP says on her blog that she is giving all her books a facelift as she works toward the release date of #7!
Regina, I've been swamped at work! I still have about 50 pages to read in Fire & Ash. Turns out i won't be starting Ghostv until tomrrow. i hope that's cool.
It'll definitely be tomorrow morning. Possibly later tonight. It really will be like another good half hour or so of reading for me to finish this book, it's just that around work I've been editing my nieces grad school admissions essay, so there's been very little reading time.
I'd be willing to wait to, Leea. We have until the 30th, so we could do it next week after the Linda Howard buddy read?

I was actually hooked by the very first book. It was one of those reads that consumed me. I was dreaming Vic and Jacob.
Oh I was hooked too! I loved the characters, it just wasn't as full of a story as the later ones. With each one her character development and mystery storyline has grown more complex.
Ok, if your sure. I thought you only needed to read book 5. ;)Regina, I'm gonna start today if that works for you.
Regina, I wasn't sure about the 1st book - I felt like I was thrown into the middle, at first. Not much of an intro or background. And then WHAM, a hot bathroom sex scene without preamble. But these novelletes ('cuz they don't seem very big) are rather addicting. I still feel like lots happens very quickly. I'm just really getting into the book, and then it seems like it's over.
Does she self-publish? I don't see any pre-orders for
anywhere... I got a bit out of order and read
, then
(which was interesting), then
, and then I started on
before I came back to this thread and realized that I'd skipped
and a bunch of the in-betweens.I wish I'd found JCP's web site first - I would've bought the whole shebang for $29.99. But at least I got most of the shorts for free or 99-cents.
I'm liking this series, but Vic is weird in a sometimes uncomfortable way for me. Maybe it's being in his head and constantly hearing all of his insecurities. But I like Vic and Jacob together. Let's face it: Jacob is HOT! And he's so into Vic! In book 1, at the end when Jacob told Vic why he'd left the restaurant, I just melted.
LOL, I love Vic and Jacob so much! They are so great together. (The order is in the first post of this thread, just fyi.) It's interesting though because while I think Jacob is hot and he's a great character, it's really Vic that makes the series for me. His insecurities feel realistic. It's similar thoughts to ones I've had before. It's refreshing reading a character who's not all confidence and sex appeal. I can relate to him. And I think it makes it even more sweet that Jacob is so in love with him despite his insecurities. Vic's internal dialogue has me cracking up pretty regularly because I can relate to the way he thinks... anyway, I love Vic.Yes, she self publishes. I don't think it'll be available until the 30th.
Vic makes the series for me too. I love his internal dialogue, JCP just hits it so right. I love how we don't usually get to see how Jacob sees Vic. So we only get Vic's musings on himself.
I agree! I also love how we rarely get to see Jacob's views on Vic, but then it makes it so awesome when we DO get those tiny glimpses. I am so flipping excited for the 30th, lmao.

Duh, I need to read 5... I'll try to squeeze it in :)
Regina wrote: "Lori where are you with the books now? I just love
this may be my most favorite series ever."Finished them ALL! Loved GhosTV and the 6.1 short. Vic grew on me... I wasn't keen on his constant insecurities, even though I knew it was his internal monologue, and I get that he's had a tough life and all. I was glad to see Vic grow and start to be more confident in himself and his relationship with Jacob. I think seeing some things from Jacob's POV helped, because we see the internal dialogues showing that Jacob, too, can be jealous and insecure about Vic.
Waiting for the 30th. Do you think Spook Squad will be on Kindle or do I need to go to JCP's site to get the ebook?
After my protests, I haven't started Spook Squad yet. Probably Mon? Caught up in The Cuckoo's Call right now.
