What is your preference in Paranormal Romance? Vampires or Shifters or Something Else?

Typical PNR is either vamps, shifters, or some mixture thereof. But I have seen PNR with fairies and all other kinds of supernatural creatures like angels, fallen angels, succubus, incubus.

What's your preferred flavor of Paranormal Romance?

I'm not sure that it falls under paranormal romance, but I really enjoyed the Mercy Thompson series. Moon Called

Beyond that, I don't have much of a preference. I like romance in my books, but I have found that many of the romances I have picked up have been lacking substance.

You know it just depends on the story & my mood. I think I have an equal love of vampires, shifters & angels. Demons are weird for me. They go against my religious upbringing but I have to say I loved Demonica. (I feel guilty about it, but I did....LOL). I am open to reading about fey, selkies, etc but they aren't my first love.

I think the Fey and Selkies are fascinating, because their worlds are so much different from ours, so it really stretches out into fantasy romance. I plan to read some of those soon.

I did enjoy Laurell K. Hamilton's series about the Fey, though I only read two books.

There's a very cool Demonic erotic romance called Lucinda Darkly by Sunny. I really enjoyed that. Its an offshoot of her Monere--Children of the Moon series, which I also enjoyed.

That, Yakara, is a shapeshifter series that is so close to the edge of UF/PNR, that most people classify it as both. I have often heard Patricia Brigg's novels (the author) referred to as Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance.

Just depends on who's talking about it.

Hmmmm that's a tough one. I'd have to say vampires - love all the creatures, but vampires well, there is just something more sensuous, appealing, aesthetic...

I must confess I covet them all, for so many reasons, each character brings with it, something to fall in love with or despise, it brings out the tormented soul and the HEA that we all love to read, Vampires though will always be my first true love :-)

I'm split between my Vamps and my Shifters..I love them both..but I also like Demons and some fae...The fae in Mercedes Thompson is cool (it is UF to me)and I liked LKH's Merry books..yummy. I kinda avoid witches that being said I have read some very good books with them but not my first choice, same with Angels.

Frankly, my answer is none of the above. I've enjoyed books with all usual suspects as characters, but they get tiresome after a while, especially when the author writes as if they were/are a part of everyday life that everyone should know about and describes them in a matter-of-fact way. Takes the wonder away and I like the wonder of the paranormal world. So I now avoid such books and look for something different, new, and unusual in the paranormal genre. Anything different, anything new, and anything unusual.

Something else usually. The Esri by Pamela Palmer are a good example. I wrote about a wizard dropped onto our world with funny results myself. I like a few novels about vampires, demons, shifters, but too many get tiresome. There are 3 authors I like but most of the others I don't care for--too nasty. 2 out of the 3 I like could have been a little less gruesome and gory. I skip the bad parts when I reread them. Buffy The Vampire Slayer was fun.

Gruesome? Horrific? Violent? Sexy? Those are all my triggers right there.

Thats what I love most about Paranormal books. They steal from horror, thriller, fantasy, scifi, and sometimes a decent dose of erotica.

Its my guilty pleasure, to get all that rolled into one wicked, violently sexy novel.

I don't like vampires, werewolves or zombies, and anything to do with the Devil scares me for nights on end. 'The Exorcist' was difficult to forget.
I like paranormal romances, and something to do with angels, too.

I really enjoy all supernatural creature books. Something Witchy This Way Comes is one of my favorite witch books. I absolutely love witch books. Vampire books are one of the first paranormal creatures I read about Tall, Dark & Lonely is one of my favorite! It also has werewolves in it which make it ten times better to.
