Drax RavenKnight (draxhollowknight) Pheles didn't feel much pain from the strike at all, but he relented, whiffing the fire out of existence. The white haired demon instead flicked her forehead lightly, to get her attention, smirking again. He had a job to do, after all, and staring at some big bad demon wasn't it. He needed to make sure to irritate as many people as he could.

Kendra (madamejade) | 1693 comments Drax wrote: "((And Hellfire, as the fire of Hell, is probably utilized by ALL demons. Pheles's own page says that he can control it, himself. But that's in his blood.))"

((A: Demons aren't from hell. That concept was made up around the medieval era and is more or less stupid.
B: I've already described in Fredrick's character sheet that he is more or less ALWAYS alert and never relaxed. It would be tedious to write it down every single time. And why would he step over some random book? If anything, Fredrick would have kicked it out of the way, revealing the prank. Also you didn't write that.))

Fredrick cared little for an infant demonling who had picked up a few cheep parlor tricks and ignored the Lesser. His attention instead focused upon a book that should not have been there. Five shelves away, there lay a journal that he recognized. A journal that he had burned.
Is this before or after then? Fredrick went through his catalog of time periods and decided that it was eleven years after that. He had to burn this... copy? Why would there be a copy? Belial was too secure for that. Someone had restored it, which could only be possible with the high magic of the fourth dimension mixed with dark and negative energy. Tesir didn't know of the existence of high magic and very little of dark magic. Spear had created two of those but had been intentionally blocked from learning of the other. Fredrick ran through his extensive list of enemies and realized that none of them could have done this. Or at least wouldn't have gone to the trouble of it just to put it in a library. Someone new. Someone powerful. The Lesser, perhaps?
"You," Fredrick strode right up to the demon, evading every barely concealed juvenile prank in his way, and put his hand on Blacksblade's hilt.
Draw?
Draw.
He drew the blade, four feet of enchanted Scottish steel, in case of trickery, and tapped the journal with the sword's tip before returning the blade to go between him and the possible enemy.
"That book. What do you know about it?"

Drax RavenKnight (draxhollowknight) "Ah. That. I brought that here. I found it in some ashes, like some idiot had tried to burn it. It reformed after I morphed into the form of my mother and used her magic, of course. The journal of Belial. I also put a spell on it. It's very interesting. Such a powerful artifact, that. But enough about the book. You. You think you're better than me. Why? Because I'm a child, in your eyes? I'm the child of Mephistopheles. I'm no... Lesser," Pheles said smugly. He hadn't even TRIED to break into his mind. It was easy enough to guess. Pheles was incredibly intelligent, and the blade in his face didn't frighten him at all. "As to what I know... Well... Now that would be telling. I won't give up my studies just like that."

((Just a bit of improv here. Since you dragged my guy into this, I guess I'll go with it. Anyhow, just because they don't originate in Hell doesn't mean there aren't any there, and it's incredibly unlikely that only four, well, five, now, could use the fire. In any case, they could have PURER fire, since they were the first, but claiming the whole concept is borderline powerplay.))

message 1254: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (madamejade) | 1693 comments ((Oh, he could just guess from Fredrick's apparently amazing facial expression acting that he was thinking the specific word, Lesser.
I really have to include Fredrick's impassive, unbreakable manner up more, because in all previous roleplays he's been unreadable. First Tara, then you, micropowerplayed him to be like an open book.
So, the spell he put on it. I'm guessing it's fireproof now?))

Fredrick shrugged and grabbed the book off the shelf.
"Fair enough. I'll just take it, then."
Whatever enchantments the Lesser had put on this book, they couldn't overpower Belial's. Firstly, Belial's enchantments were the most powerful in the demon world, because his methods were secret. Mephistopheles was a brute who worked with already-corrupted mortals to spread their seed. Belial was a scientist, inventor, and enchanter. Anything that this Lesser's father had trained the boy in was useless if it had gone against Belial's initial enchantments. Secondly, Belial's enchantments would have been buried into the ink and pages as they were being applied and bound, respectively. Any undoing of those enchantments would have caused the book to fall apart and its words to drip off of the page, so even if the Lesser had succeeded in pushing past an initial enchantment, it was now useless to everyone, impossible to bring back. Just what Fredrick wanted.
If Pheles had actually been incredibly intelligent, the blade before him would have terrified him immensely. Fredrick wondered if he should show him why.
We can't have him trying to stab me in the back on my way out, he reasoned, and lazily lifted the tip so that it barely pointed at Pheles.
A bolt of burning green lightning shot out of the sword and slammed into the Lesser, sending over 200,000 volts through the demon and throwing him back into the opposite end of the library to slam into the wall.
Fredrick could just walk out unhindered, since the pranks in the way were stupid and simple (and don't say that's powerplay. Soap behind a book is so far his only prank and you have to admit that's stupid and simple). He turned the corner once he was out of the library and disappeared at the first patch of dirt he found.
((The first? The first what? You really have to be more specific.))

message 1255: by Drax (new)

Drax RavenKnight (draxhollowknight) ((One, it's reasonable to assume that Black's a big name. So, Pheles would obviously make the observation that he believes he' better than everyone. Second, you shouldn't downgrade Mephistopheles like that, because you're just trying to monopolize evil by god-modding all of your characters to oblivion. Simple pranks work, and are by far the most irritating.))

Pheles stepped up, completely unharmed, thanks to his quick thinking. The blade, he noticed, was of a very powerful make and of course, could vaporize most, if not all, opponents, except lightning beings. At the moment the tip began to rise, he transmuted himself into a lightning wraith, like the one being, Storm, he'd once met here. He was completely unharmed by the blast because of this. Having returned to his previous form, Pheles was complete and smug as always, sneering at the path of Fredrick. "Fool. Who'd actually think that was the real book? I just made a copy with blank pages and wrote soppy poetry in it," he said, laughing.

message 1256: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (madamejade) | 1693 comments ((A: Pheles doesn't know his name.
B: No... that's what Mephistopheles is in the initial literature that he appears in.))

Half a minute after Fredrick heard the Lesser's words, a knife stabbed into the demon's back as Fredrick had entered through the back door and thrown a knife into the demon's back from the entrance. Teleporting was useful. Quiet feet were even more so.
"So, for no reason you made a stupid copy of this. Alright then, that's believable. Except that this isn't soppy poetry, little Pheles." Fredrick easily flipped it open.
"Clever little demonling. Pulls something over on everyone. Too bad magic was used to make the cover look exactly the same. Copying spells can be traced with a potion I have back in the hideout. This is the real one. Right here, page three. This is the equation that my father wrote. It allows the demons to create Lessers, or Young Demons, as your people insist on being called now. It's the equation that allows you to exist." He thumbed through the rest of the book, confirming that everything was in order.
The knife in the Lesser's back erupted into hellflames and flew back into its master's hands.
"Don't worry. You can keep your poetry. It's right where you left the real one." Burned, but there. Fredrick sent a powerful charge through the book and fried its contents away again, leaving nothing left. Centuries of battle plans, thousands of powerful spells, all safely locked away in Fredrick's mind.
Yes, Fredrick knew that Pheles couldn't read this book. No one but Belial or one of his sons could read it. If the Lesser had done away with that enchantment, then nobody could have read it.
He would be keeping the ashes though, of course. Not making the same mistake twice. Leaving the burning book in a detonating facility that was about to vaporize everything in it and around it in a mile radius. Idiot, should have gone back for it and died.
"Just go back to pranking the stupid and innocent. They're the only ones you can outsmart."
Fredrick considered killing the Lesser right there. But he just didn't care enough about the fool to do him the service. Five seconds and Fredrick was gone again, back into his mini-abyss to find a much safer place for the ashes.

Drax RavenKnight (draxhollowknight) ((Fredrick's a dick. Flat out saying it. He's a dick. Mephistopheles isn't a brute. He never was. In Faust's original legend, he was a collector of damned souls and simply spread them. There's nothing weak or brutish about that. And Pheles knows everyone. It's part of his business.))

Pheles could take a little stab. Mockery didn't even hurt his pride. Hellfire didn't hurt him any more than any other flame, so he was fine. "Is that so? I never had the book in the first place. So, whomever his true enemy is, they probably know of it anyway. If that was the real one, who cares? Belial can keep his secrets. I don't want or need them," he said, shrugging.

Drax RavenKnight (draxhollowknight) Pheles laughed. "You've got spite in you, girlie. And in case your omnipotent sense of everlasting sight didn't pick it up, Mr. Moody has left the building," he taunted, flicking her again. "Speaking of witch, I'm probably off, myself. Messing with you isn't very fun now that you've gone and become all agitated before I could get all my fun through with," he said, sighing as he became a cute little white fox, flame on the tip of his tail. "See you later, miss Skylar darling," he taunted, voice now squeaky and adorable as he leaped up into a tiny air vent. He wasn't gone yet, but he was well on his way. Maybe he'd come mess with her again sometime soon. It was in his fantastically mischievous and demonic nature, after all. He had to keep up his reputation in some way.

message 1260: by Drax (new)

Drax RavenKnight (draxhollowknight) "How rude. I'm not a rapist at all," Pheles said, sniffing in offense as he strode through the vent system. That was how he got around the school, after all. It was a great area to explore, no matter what time it was. He wondered where he'd go next, and who he'd prank and annoy. She'd get her chance again, she could count on that. It was a given, if she'd offended him, which she had, of course. Especially with that horrible rapist comment. He didn't want to be seen as that, even if he was a demon.

Maim, Bite and Kill romped around in a corner of the library as three separate dogs, able to get along for the first time in centuries thanks to Henry. He was the best Master they had ever had, which was probably biased since they had had only one master previous to him. Maim freed himself from his brothers to sit and scratch at his ear, looking around for Henry and wondering what they planned on doing.

message 1266: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) Henry followed in line behind the three dogs, a bundle of text books in his arms. Despite all the things that were happening around him – the drama, the fear of war and the new responsibility of being a so called ‘Master’ – teachers were very intent on giving him homework. So he thought he might as well get some of it done. It wasn’t like he had much to do, anyway.

Seeing an empty seat by a nearby table, he shuffled towards it and laid down the books onto its surface. He looked about to see if anyone else was around. It was empty from what he could see. Not a teacher or pupil in sight, so he assumed it was alright for Maim, Bite, and Kill to hang around. It was weird being their Master; it felt like a huge amount of responsibility. He wasn’t cut out to be important. He was just Henry Headless. That was all; nothing more or less. It was bad enough to be responsible for Daisy. He was the only reason the three existed, and to be that important to someone felt too... too much.

But despite what he felt, he was glad to have done it. The Cerberus was his friend, and he could not allow them to disappear.

Henry flicked open the history text book, and began his attempt to read the questions he was to answer. Every so often, though, his head swivelled to see what the three dogs were doing.

message 1267: by [deleted user] (new)

Bite and Kill were keeping busy trying to see who could pin the other in a long standing wrestling competition that had neither an end nor a winner as neither wanted to admit defeat to their brother.

Maim finished scratching his ear, then went to go see what Henry was doing. Resting his head on the table, he was able to see the questions that Henry had to answer. Maim was actually able to help him on a few of the questions, since a couple of them had to do with Greek mythology.

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) Whenever he asked a question to Maim, and whenever the dog answered, Henry politely said a “Thank you.” It was a long and tedious task, but eventually he finished all the questions. Closing and pushing the book away and grabbing the next text book – science – he quickly glanced at Bite and Kill. They were pinning one another down onto the floor. It was very unlike the fighting they had done in the past; this time it was fun, and light. It was like watching two puppies play, really. He smiled faintly, and then went back to work. He was sure Maim wouldn’t know any science questions, so he had to work on his own.

message 1280: by [deleted user] (new)

Maim looked over the science questions, not knowing the answers, then realized he had seen a book that would help. Excusing himself, he trotted off to go retrieve the book.

Bite managed to pin down Kill finally, both of them panting and wagging their tails.

~~

A shadow stole across the ground behind Maim as he reared up on the bookshelf to retrieve a book that would help Henry with his homework. He had just grabbed the book and was lowering himself to the ground when there was a flash of silver, and a blade was buried into Maim's side, just barely missing his heart and lungs. Maim's agonized yelp rent the silent air of the library as moments after the blade pierced his flesh, poison flooded through his body and caused him to fall to the floor, writhing and yelping in pain as it attacked his nervous system.

Bite and Kill leaped apart from one another and raced for Maim, howling that they were coming as they grew in size. Henry! Maim needs our help! He's been attacked!

message 1281: by Jasmine (last edited Mar 17, 2014 10:36AM) (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) Q: NaCl is the chemical formula of…?

Henry was just about to answer this question when all of a sudden he heard a pained yelp. He jerked his head up in time to see a long blade dig deep into Maim’s side. He watched in speechless as the dog fell to the floor. He sat there in a trance of horror, watching blood poor onto the floor. It was like watching a car crash; he was paralysed to do anything. But Kill and Bite’s words of warning knocked him out of it.

Pushing his chair back and unsheathing a sword from his belt, he rushed forward. He passed the shadowy figure and went to Maim first. He bent down and placed a hand on the dog’s head in the attempt to calm him down. His carved eyes flitted to the wound. Why are people so driven to hurt the people I care about? he thought angrily, and that gave him enough drive to stand up again, and point the end of his sword to the stranger’s throat. “Who the Hell are you?” he seethed. "What do you want?"

((Its so slow.))

message 1282: by [deleted user] (new)

((wonder why I didn't get a notif? and my internet is being like that lately))

The shadowy figure smiled, he was entirely black other than the white from his teeth as he smiled. "Who the Hell am I? That's not far from the mark of just what I am. I am an associate of the new owner of Hades, and one of my orders were to originally infiltrate the school.....but then I saw Cerberus here, and I am supposed to eradicate them and Hades....so, tell me where he is and I'll make their deaths swift and painless. Failure to do so will make Maim here die a slow and painful death as first his nervous system, and then slowly the rest of his body is destroyed by my poisons."

message 1283: by Jasmine (new)

message 1285: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) Henry quickly glaceed over at Bite and Kill behind the shadowy figure as he spoke. Run, he begged. Please just run. Get out of here. He immediately focused his attention back onto the stranger. He suspected that he had only seen Maim, and so the two other dogs had a small chance.

After he had finished his little speech, Henry dared to take a step forward, the tip of his sword coming closer to the stranger's neck. "Over my dead body," he growled. He knew exactly what he was getting himself into, but he didn't care. Maim had been a good ally to him, and was nothing but loyal. He owed him a lot; he owed him for saving his life back at the ruins.

My god, he thought. That was today. All that happened this morning. The fight in the ruins, the episode of Orianna in the nurses office, becoming the Cerberus' master... that all happened that day. It made him laugh inside, how a day could be so chocked filled with things that it felt like it was spaced out by a few months when in fact it was mere hours.

He snapped out of his dreams, and returned to the matter of hand. He had to stay focused.

message 1286: by [deleted user] (new)

Bite and Kill looked beyond torn as they whined and followed his orders, anguish in their minds as they ran away like he told them to.

The figure smiled and pressed backwards against the shadowy bookshelf behind him, disappearing from behind Henry's sword, and reappearing in another shadowy spot nearby Maim, his dagger out and tracing the writhing dogs fur. "Oh, I don't need your dead body. I only need Hades. These guys haven't faded yet, which means he's still alive since they are far from smart enough to find the one tome that would give them a new Master." he chuckled, the tip of the dagger piercing the skin and causing Maim to whisper. "There names reflect how they are. Maim, Bite and Kill know only how to do just that, maim, bite and kill whoever they are ordered to attack. Now then...." he stabbed Maim in the stomach, causing him to help and writhe anew as the shadowy stranger looked up at Henry. "Are you going to help me, or do I have to torture your new pets first?"

message 1287: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) When the figure sunk into the bookshelf, Henry felt a little weave of relief. For a second he thought it was over before it had even started. He had even began to put his sword into his sheath. But he heard a voice behind him, and when he turned around he saw the shadowy figure dipping a dagger into Maim's skin.

He stood silent and still while the figure spoke. When he had finished, the dullahan kept his sword low. "That's all your after?" he said. "Their Master?" He paused, contemplating on what to do. It only took him two seconds to come to a decision. "If I give you the Cerberus' Master, will you leave them alone? A life for a life?"

Technically its three lives, you idiot, said a small yet wicked voice in the back of his mind, but he told it to shut up.

message 1288: by [deleted user] (new)

The shadowy figure shrugged. "Well, I suppose I will, though I plan on killing said Master and causing them to fade away." he said, straightening. "Or at least, I'll leave this one alone." he said with a wicked grin. "After all, the life of one Master does not equal three lives of a Servant. I'm sure Bite and Kill would love to get a part of this action. Honestly, this would probably be a less painful way to go out than fading. If you love them, after showing me their Master, I advise you killing them yourself so they don't have to suffer through a Fading."

H-henry......D-don't do this.......th-this man is bad, very bad......a-and very strong. He was meant to battle Hades, not you......Please, don't endanger yourself. Maim whimpered, struggling to find his footing as his blood pooled on the ground and stained his fur.

message 1289: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) Henry looked down at the ever growing pool of blood beneath Maim. He knew what he had to do. When you get the chance, get out of here and find Orianna, he thought to the dog, ignoring its warnings. He already knew it was bad. Ever since he came to the Academy, things had been bad. All he could do was attempt to make things right. Tell her that I sent you. She'll take care of you. I know she will.

He turned his attentions back on the shadowy figure. "I won't be able to do that if you plan on killing me," he simply said. The sword in his hand suddenly felt heavy, so he let it go out of its grip. The weapon clattered to the bloody floor.

"There smarter then you think," he added.

message 1290: by [deleted user] (new)

"I'll make your death swift." The man promised, beginning to move close.

Maim struggled up, leaning heavily on the bookshelf nearby and muffling his whines of pain. No, Henry! Maim pleaded. I don't want to lose you, none of us do. Your the best Master we ever had.

AND WE'RE NOT GONNA LET YOU GO OUT SO EASY! CHARGE!!! Kill roared, and he and bite, now almost the size of cars, charged the shadowy man and slammed into him before he could kill Henry.

message 1291: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) Henry stood there nervously. He had died before. This was nothing new. But even though he had done it once before the thought of dying still scared him. He didn't remember his time as a proper dead person. He didn't know if he went to heaven or hell, or even if there was a heaven or hell, or even if there was an afterlife in the first place.

Then maybe he only feared not knowing...

He pondered on this as the shadowy figure, trying to ignore what was going on around him. He was focusing his mind so much that he didn't hear Kill and Bite's battle cry. So he got quite the shock when he looked up to see the two giant dogs on top of the figure.

Taking this as the perfect opportunity to escape, he rushed forward to the injured Maim. He was propped against a bookshelf. It was obvious he wouldn't be able to walk anywhere on his own.

The dullahan scooped the dog in his arms, placing one hand under Maim's chest and the other on the back of his hide. Despite his weight, he clutched the dog to his chest like his life depended on it.

Well, a life did depend on it. It just wasn't his.

"Maim! Bite!" he shouted, beginning to back out of the library. "Come on! We need to get out of here!"

message 1292: by [deleted user] (new)

((Its Bite and Kill not Maim and Bite lol))

Bite and Kill kicked out strongly at the shadowy figure, sending him crashing into a bookshelf before dashing after him. Maim! How is he? Bite asked as they ran by his side.

Maim whimpered as Henry picked him up, his lids slipping closed as he lost consciousness.

message 1293: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jasminethetallirishflower) ((Gah! Sorry. I got confused.))

Henry looked down at the dog in his arms. Maim was completely out of it. Cascades of blood flowed from his open and deep wouneds and stained his shirt. He looked back up at the two other dogs before him. "We need to get him to the infermary," he whispered. "Now."

He gave one last glace at the library. Most of the shelves were thrown to there sides in the fght, but there was no sign of the shadowy figure. Then he turned on his heels and ran down the hall as fast as he could.

message 1294: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 30, 2014 04:03PM) (new)

((haha its fine))

Do you think they'll treat him? Bite asked worriedly as Kill led the way stoically. Wh-what if they don't treat him? I mean, he's a supernatural, but he's not a student....

If they don't want to, then I'll make them. Kill snarled darkly. We can't be without Maim. You know that. We don't have a choice in the matter. We must rely on the infirmary to heal him.

Kill pushed open the door and held it open for Henry, his eyes shifting from anger to concern as he saw Maim's limp, bleeding form. It hurt him to see their brother in such a way.
