"Sure, I would love to help. I've done my fair share of reading up on werewolves. I'm guessing from your need of the potion your one of the types who shifts any moon? Must be tough." she said, scanning the paper while she mentally listed the locations they could be found. Her voice didn't come across as sympathetic, more of ive been in that kind of position. She set Aka down and said "Go find me a book on Girdir roots, I don't remember where to find them. One book will suffice, I don't want you tripping again." she said, patting the dragons head softly before she ran off. Evangeline started to make a list of locations, with the ingrediants they could find listed next to it. "Alright, after Aka gets the book and I get the location for the last ingrediant we can go and start to gather them." Evangeline said, setting her pen down.
Josh, blinking thoughtfully at her (he needed glasses), had left his book forgotten in front of him. "Cool." A grin made its way across his face. Her response had been better than what he could have hoped for. Evangeline had figured it out herself, and didn't end up pitying him... Something told him, now, that it wasn't her style. "And yeah... I'm kind of a sp-pecial case. I've been looking and l-looking for something to h-help with it, but I've never gotten this f-far. This is the m-most progress I've made for weeks." Josh was smart, but not particularly book-smart. "Plus it applies to a proj-ject, so." The grin turned into a kind of guilty smirk. "I couldn't have g-gotten this far without help." His way of saying thanks.
Evangeline smiled and said "I'm not surprised you didn't get this far before. I've seen your studying and I must say you don't turn a single page." she giggled to show she was joking about him falling asleep on the books and lifted her head to see Aka coming back with a book in her claws. Evangeline reached down and grabbed it, flipping quickly through the pages for the information on the girdir root.
"So," Josh lifted his chin so he could see across the table at the pages she was flipping through. "What's a g-girdir root?" The name sounded a little familiar, but not enough to ring a bell.
"It's a special root that is used in a recipe regarding any shapeshifters, including werebeasts like yourself." she told him, quoting from the book as she wrote down the location on the paper.
Josh struggled to contain a snort of laughter. "W-Werebeasts?" He echoed, moving his elbows up onto the table so his head was almost touching Evangeline's from the way she was bent over the page, and grinned as he tried to read the fuzzy words upside down. "I've never heard that one before."
"Well, that is a more generalized term to use since there are after all, more werecreatures than just you. Just about any animal you can think of is a werebeast." Evangeline explained with a smile.
Aka nuzzled Josh, trying to get him to pet her.
Aka nuzzled Josh, trying to get him to pet her.
Josh was quiet for a moment. "Really?" He frowned in thought. "So, you mean, there's some p-poor guy out there who ch-changes into a chicken every twelve hours?"
His hand, as a reflex, jerked up and out of reach as he was touched. Looking down and realizing who it was, however, Josh carefully, and with much hesitation, patted Aka on the head with a tentative smile.

"Well, let me rephrase that." Evangeline said, stifling her snort of laughter at the mental image. "Most wild animals, like a cheetah, or jackal or an ocelot or something. Domesticated animals are rarely seen as a werebeast form."
Aka chirped happily and closed her eyes.
Aka chirped happily and closed her eyes.
"Oh. That's disappointing." Josh leaned back a little into his seat and redirected his attention to Aka, her little chirp seizing his interest. He pet her some more, realizing this was probably the first time he had ever really touched a reptile of any sort.
"I've seen a werecat though, a domesticated housecat version. They are rare though and only five of the twenty that have exsisted lived past five years old." Evangeline said, closing the books and putting them away via telepathy.
He glanced up, not really getting the age thing. "Wh... Why only five?" Although it was very likely Josh himself wouldn't live past his twenties, he had never been taught of the mortality rate. Never had he ventured to imagine it, even.
Evangeline gathered up the paperwork on the table and said grimly "Because five is when they first shift and die. Their bodies cannot survive shifting into something so small, thats why creatures like wolves, lions, cheetahs, and other carnivorous animals that are larger are more well known as werebeasts. The smaller ones don't live very long, the organs get compacted to much, something bursts and they die." Aka made a sad chirpy sound and looked up at them both with mournful eyes.
"Uh," Josh blinked again and nodded in a way that was slight and a little awkward. How did one respond to information like that? "That... S-Sucks." He picked up a book before she could stack it and sat it in his lap, intending on checking it out for a while longer. "I didn't kn-know that. I guess you pick up a few things when you're over a th-thousand." Somehow he didn't really soften up at the fact, but gave Aka a little pat on the head anyway.
Evangeline nodded sadly and said "Some things you are forced to see firsthand......" she closed her eyes as the memory fought for her attention. Evangeline took a deep breath and willed it away, not wanting to have to go through that again. "Anyways, lets go, we can get most of the stuff in the forest." she stood up, obviously not wanting to continue that part of the conversation anymore.
"R... Right." Josh couldn't help but give her a little bit of a searching look as he got up to follow, tucking the book and the rest of his study equipment into his backpack and hiking it up onto his shoulder. "Sorry, let's go." Being a 'werebeast' himself (or so the book had titled him), he had a different attachment to the fact of shape shifter mortality; the way Evangeline snuffed off the topic with a hanging fact left him curious as to how she was attached. But he didn't ask. "How much root do we n-need?"
Evangeline picked Aka up and tucked the papers into a folder, slipping it into her satchel as she replied "We need one good sized root. Getting the root out of the ground is the easy part, getting past the plant can be a little more difficult." she tucked Aka into her satchel as well and said "shall we go?" she knew he must be curious about why she snuffed out the topic so fast, especially since it did in a way concern him, but for now she would rather not go into more detail.
"Yeah, yeah," he nodded and grabbed his sweater from the back of his chair. "Let's go." Josh gave her a smile to try and forget whatever it was that had just happened, and started out. "What do you m-mean by getting past the pl-lant?" The frown on his face suggested that maybe he was a little afraid of the answer.
((I think its just called Forest. the on campus one that is))
Evangeline gave a bit of a careless shrug as she said "Girdir plants have heads like venus flytraps, except bigger and they can lunge forward and actually control when they close and open....oh and their 'mouths' are very sharp. If you get caught in one, you'll get torn to shreds if your not strong enough to rip yourself free."

((did you want me to post at the forest first?))
((Oh, yes, sorry! Go ahead. :) ))
Josh nodded a little, his brows pushed together thoughtfully. "Ah. Alr-right then. So what our step, is what you're s-saying?" Dying by giant flytrap wasn't the best of legacies Josh could imagine.

Evangeline nodded. "if you can get close enough to the base of the plant, they will no longer be able to harm you because they can only bend so far." she added. "So, speed and quick reflexes are a plus when getting girdir root."
Spear flew back into the library after practicing intense fighting drills in the forest. She glared, eyes glittering, at the small groups of people around the library. She detested them all, probably because she had no friends to call her own. She had met faerie guys who had tried to hit on her, but she had beat them all up and no one had tried since. In some ways she wished they would because she felt like a boyfriend was at least a possibility when they did.
Spear flew back to her corner of the library. Grabbing a random book off the shelf, she began to read, not even slightly interested in the book. As people passed her, Spear watched and judged them. Over the years she had developed fun judging games about what types of books people would read based on their clothes. It was quite fun actually. After an hour of "fun", Spear drifted off into a light sleep, still clutching the open book.

((Oh, I'm sorry! Were you going to post in the forest, or would you rather I?))
((Oh, I'm sorry! Were you going to post in the forest, or would you rather I?))
((oh! Im more sorry! would you mind? I'm tied up with work and things and I forgot all about it!))
((Absolutely no problemo. :) No one understands me tied up more than I do. Lol, I wasn't monitoring the topics and began to panic. Which topic was it? A Forest in the school grounds?))
"I don't know. Is Skylar a bad person?" a voice invaded her mind, asking that. The library she was envisioning went up in flames of every color. Violet, black, blue, red, orange, yellow, and white were all present. "Why do you wonder if you're good or bad? Why not a shade of gray? A color unknown to me, perhaps? What color do you think you are? Why do you think that? Tell me, child," it said, laughing. It was distorted, disembodied, even. Who knew exactly where it was coming from?Pheles was sitting in a chair, looking completely inconspicuous. Who would guess that he was invading someone's personal conversation with themselves? But he was, and oh was it joyful. He loved messing with the easily manipulated supernatural populace. They never even TRIED to stop him, sometimes. Why would they? They didn't know who 'he' was. Some headmistress, to let this all go on unimpeded.
"I'm Pheles. I find it INCREDIBLY amusing to mess with people, of course," he replied, laughing. He didn't have much else to do, seeing as how his entire purpose in his demonic life was to 'Mess with people.' Humans were such interesting creatures, after all. Why not give them a reason to act more interest.
Sneha {✦Drowning in my Dreams✦} wrote: "Skylar raised an eyebrow, quite amazed by his answer; it wasn’t every day you met someone who accepted the fact that messing with people—and plainly said it without shame. Skylar almost forgot wher...""I'm just a demon. You know, not-so-friendly neighborhood hoodlum," Pheles jested, laughing. He got to his feet, holding his hand out to shake, though he fully planned on burning her a tiny bit if she took it. Just like a little stinger, but you couldn't see it. He was still holding onto his smirk, eyes lit up with mischievous wonder.
"Oh come on. You should've expected that, my dear. If you really want to make nice, then you've got to understand your new friend," Pheles said, tutting. "It's not likely that you're ever going to get anywhere with me in regards to pranks, so you're just going to have to appease me in other ways. It's how it works. Show me that you have what I respect," he said, grinning. Pheles was having a ball with this one. She had been gullible so far. Maybe she'd smarten up.
((I want Fredrick to torch off his face so much. I was actually planning on him ending up here. Do you mind if a snow-sodden killer arrives, guys?))
((Don't care at all.))"But it's so fun, Skylar," Pheles said, laughing. "I mean, after all, you haven't even seen through my illusion yet," he said, grinning. His illusion faded, revealing his horns, two sets of wings, and his tail. "You're not so bright yourself, are you? I mean, after all..." he started, morphing into a mirror image of her. "I know you," he said, his voice hers. He promptly became himself again, laughing.
((AAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAAHAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!... You won't regret this. I'll be over in just a few minutes when I've completed my favorite form of geography.))
"And I'll bet he was magnificent, as always," Pheles said, sighing wistfully. He wasn't a bad looker, himself. Spry, thing, but with a hint of power that radiated ever so slightly, in a way that most people would overlook it, getting themselves killed. "Besides, Skylar, you aren't all that. I mean, look at how your hair frays in the heat," he said, a tiny ball of flame above her head, raising the temperature.
The door slammed shut as though it had been kicked by a heel. A black-clad and armored young man came through, steaming, as though he had just been on fire after being covered in snow. There was still some water in his gloves, which the stranger took care of by setting his hands alight in roaring hellflames. The flames that Belial had worked for centuries to retrieve from the depths. The flames that had only been shared among three demons. Their names were Belial, Mephistopheles, and, of course, their master. The flames that consumed not just flesh, but the soul, and the will, and the strength. The flames that did not restore. The flames that made poisonous ash that could not regrow. The flames that annihilated all possibility of regrowth. The stranger used them casually, shutting them off with ease, though anyone attune to the magical realm could have heard their cries to be allowed to keep burning, to keep consuming. A weak-willed mind could be conquered by these flames, but this stranger could control them with effortless ease.
The flames of Belial. The flames of Mephistopheles.
The flames of Fredrick Black.
((It's not hellfire he's weak to. It's Mephisto's own PERSONAL flame. It's supposed to be all special, and hard to find. You know? Trying to make it hard to kill Pheles. Well, it's not an issue. He can still counter it, kinda. He has his own, after all.))
((Hah. No. A few problems there.A) Illegal.
B) If you look at Fredrick's character description, or many of the posts I've put him in, you'll notice that he scans areas often, noting the minutest details in a near-omniscient detailing of his surroundings. There is an exactly negative infinite chance that Fredrick would not have noticed that sponge.
C) That guy just skiid down a mountain atop daggers. He can avoid falling down from a situation that the average anything-that-requires-balance person can and then plenty.
D) The "arrogant brute" thing is all in Pheles's head. The only thing Pheles knows about Fredrick at this point is that he can command hellflames and happens to have just walked into a library. You specifically pointed out in Pheles's character sheet that those with strong wills could block his mind probes. I just described Fredrick's willpower above. Furthermore, if Pheles had been able to see into Fredrick's mind, he would have
a) been discovered and possibly killed
and
b) have noticed that Fredrick did not fit the stereotype of arrogant brute.
Regarding your thing about Pheles's weakness:
"It's supposed to be all special, and hard to find."
Hellfire: Only used by four people in the universe.
Please state your definition of special and hard to find.))
((He was just going on appearances. Armor, high walk. And if you don't want it to happen, do a damn backflip or something. I don't care. Go back in time. Don't get all prissy because Pheles likes to mess around. The sponge is behind a book. Stepping over the book and onto the sponge isn't something scanning would notice. Besides, it didn't SAY he scanned the room. I find it amusing that you list all these things just to stop your character from falling on his ass. It's not a big deal. Special and hard to find as in Mephistopheles wouldn't 'share' it with anyone. Ever. It's his or no one's.))
Pheles looked at Fredrick, let out something of a bored sigh, and went back to the easy prey, disinterested. That was Black, alright. Armor-clad, ridiculously dark, and not even remotely as frightening as he probably assumed he was. Pheles wasn't impressed in the slightest. One day he'd find worms in his boots, for sure. That or centipedes. Whichever Pheles could get his hands on. But after all, who cared? IT was just some high demon. Not like Pheles, as a high demon, had anything to worry about.
