Lisa | 383 comments Tellulah - I was listening to Bernadette this afternoon while outside, just cracking up! The narrator does a fantastic job with all the voices, especially Bernadette's daughter B. When B was talking about playing the Beatles' Abby Road in the car and her mom, Bernadette sang along, knowing ALL the words, even the Spanish when she doesn't speak Spanish, but French and how can she know all the words?! It drove B nuts!! LMAO!

The audiobook of it sounds great! I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

D.G. I started Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by R.L. LaFevers but I think I'll either dnf it or try again later. I'm not feeling the premise AT ALL.

Not sure what to try next...

Oh boy DG. I'm just starting it. Now you got me nervous.

message 1305: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I got this book Gaming for Keeps by Seleste deLaney from NG. Contemporary romance, geek culture - I was pretty excited. Sadly while there was a lot of geek references - to the point I wanted to say "yes yes, very good, you know that world" - there wasn't any real character development to balance it out.

I know it's not the same thing but Ready Player One managed the gazillion refs with brilliant characters. Where's the romance that does that? Anyone?

message 1306: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I just saw that on NG... Let me know what you think. I still need to read Ready Player One.

I'm now to 30% in Under the Dome, i'm reading so slow... it's painful at this point. haha!

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Samantha - I loved Grave Mercy - but it takes a bit - to get the set-up

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I haven't read a lot of "Geek Culture" romances, so I can't help you. But, I agree that Ready Player One definitely managed it! Leea, it's one of the group reads in the YA group, I think for July, hopefully you get to read it then. It's great.

D.G. I don't think GM is for me. But lots of people loved it so don't go by me, Samantha. :)

I'm reading Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward . I just realized that this series won't age well because of all the jargon she makes up. Even I had problems figuring out what everything meant and this book wasn't published that long ago.

message 1311: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments how far did you get in GM DG? I liked the beginning, but I really started to love it when she met Anne of Brittany and the history kicked in

I think that's the last book in that series I've read...maybe John Matthew's book.

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Hi ladies! Has anyone read all of the Play by Play series by Jaci Burton? Book 6 just came out... One Sweet Ride (Play by Play, #6) by Jaci Burton and was wondering if anyone is interested in a buddy read. Let me know.

I'd skip Gaming for Keeps. I think there's better stuff to read. Like Good Girl, Bad Girl by Christopher Finch which I tore through in one sitting and loved! Classic film noir type mystery set in 1970/80s(?) NY. Great!

I have been working my ass off lately. It has been crazy hectic. I am going on vacation next month and am trying to get things done before I leave.

Glad you are having a great time. My older sis has been to Oregon. Her and her husband and a group of their friends go riding there (quads and such) every year.

message 1323: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yeah, we're close to where people take their quads and go riding on the dunes here. Looks like fun! Maybe when my boys are older.

Hope work slows down for you and that you have a fantastic vacation, where are you going?

message 1324: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments They love it! I am sure your boys will too. You could always get them quads for their size. Believe it or not they do have them.

My sis, her boys and I are going to Oahu, Hawaii for 9 days.

message 1327: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Wow - I'd love to go back to Oahu! I took one of the Hawaiian island cruises a couple of years ago. Got a great taste of the islands, but now I just want to go back to 1!

Just finished off Beautiful Mess (Bailey's Boys, #1) by Lucy V. Morgan - thanks, Courtney! I wouldn't have seen it if not for you. Fun and cheeky.

But the BEST was Tangled (Tangled, #1) by Emma Chase !!! This steamy contemporary romance is told entirely from the guy's POV! He's not Dex, but he's a sexy investment banker, and he's all guy! I loved this story!

Back to the Iron Druid Chronicles. Finishing up Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne today and then moving on. I decided to cut some costs, and my ebook purchases are ridiculous. So I borrowed the next 3 from the elibrary, and I forgot to change the lending period. I've got to snarf them down in 7 days. I should be able to do that...

message 1328: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Marcella, that's so exciting about Oahu. I lived there for about 2 years...stationed in Pearl Harbor. You will have a blast.

Leea, I'm glad you're having a good time. How is the weather? We're experiencing a bit of the June Gloom in the Bay right now.

Lori, Tangled sounds fun! How was the romance?

It's in the 60's which is good weather here and it's surprisingly warm here. I'm cold in our room but once we start venturing out into the little towns, beach or pool then it's perfect weather. Yesterday the wind was crazy... that's gone today so we're headed back to the pool. We're in total vacation mode, still in our PJ's hanging out and relaxing. ha!

Lori, I keep seeing Tangled and everyone seems to love it! I'll have to bump it up on my list, i love guys POV's.

message 1331: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Kay and Leea, the romance in Tangled was great. I was surprised that I fell so hard for this book. I think it's the guy POV, LOL! Nothing like being in a guy's head, especially one who's being completely honest.

It's a quick read, only 220-ish Kindle pages.

D.G. Well, we'll live vicariously through you!

My husband and I still haven't decided where to go this Summer. Our choices are: Switzerland, Amsterdam/Bruges Brussels or Paris/Bordeaux.

Even though I've been to Paris already and haven't been to the other countries, I'm leaning towards the France trip. My husband found out about tours you can do of vineyards in Bordeaux and I'm sort of excited of seeing the countryside. We always go to cities mostly.

message 1336: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I went to Oahu and the Big Island in April and had a blast! Luckily, while in Hilo where it's supposed to be the rainiest, even more so than Seattle, we had lovely weather. We really lucked out.

Leea, watch out for sunburns even on cloudy days. We all got burned while walking on an Oregon beach and it was cloudy! Are you anywhere near Tillamook? They have a wonderful air museum with old airplanes - it's in a huge hanger. They even had a fun alien ship! We had camped at Jessie Honeyman State Park that has the BEST sand dunes! Or I might be getting that park confused with a different one nearby...

Tangled looks really good! I just added it to my kindle :D

I would love to go to Switzerland but I would personally do Paris because I love pastries.

message 1338: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Tillamook is Dex & Perry country! I stayed in Pacific City in a condo for a week with my family a few years ago over the 4th of July week- good times!

We also found some great Farmers' Markets in the areas... the berries were a-maz-ing! All the produce and fruit were. Too bad Oregon is such a long drive from Vegas; I'd go back again. Loved The Rusty Pelican restaurant and the fresh Dungeness crabs from the little fish market.

message 1339: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments That's right, Lori! LOL That Oregon Coast vacation was one of my favorites. We even got to see Keiko the killer whale (Free Willy) before she left the Aquarium. It was the highlight for the kids. Oh man, I'm craving seafood now - thanks Lori!

Speaking of Europe trips, hubby and I are thinking of a Germany/Austria trip next year. I was really hoping for a return to Ireland/Scotland since I did my "fact finding mission" last year, but he's got his heart set on great steins of beer and eating lots of sausage. I hope they have good wine :/

D.G. Marcella wrote: "I would love to go to Switzerland but I would personally do Paris because I love pastries. "

I know! When we went last time, I had so many pastries! And we went there 10+ years ago and Paris is one of those cities you can always visit more than once. :) Also I'm reading the Amour et Chocolat series and now I feel like visiting Chocolateries in Paris. ;)

Lisa - Germany/Austria should have good white wines.

message 1341: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I love the German section of Switzerland, particualry the Lake Luzerne area. I spent about 48 hours there years ago -- my film in my camera was destroyed (before digital) yet, those days stand out so strongly in my mind I don't need pictures!

You'd think I would know that about the sunburns but I keep putting spf 50 on my boys but Garrett's face got red and I feel terrible. We're 50-60 miles south of Tillamook. We're right by Newport, OR. There are so many Oregon parks, it's truly an amazing.

message 1345: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I've been eating seafood every chance I get... my favorite place is Mo's. We have a little Mo's within walking distance from our resort at Devils Punch Bowl state park and it's right on this cliff... it's awesome! I'll take a picture and share...

message 1346: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) My favorite coffee mug is from a diner in Newport - I think it's called Newport Cafe! They have awesome clam chowder. The mug is a bit faded now. We were checking out the lighthouses in the area.

message 1349: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Leea that sounds so amazing!!

I am in the middle of The Favor by Megan Hart which I am enjoying but it is a really slow building story. Right now it reads more like non-genre literary fiction. Which I like, but I think Hart's fans might not like it.

message 1350: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh and it wasn't my favorite of the series but still a good story. I was going to start Heart of Obsidian but I decided to get back to Dex and Perry. So, I'm reading Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror, #6) by Karina Halle . I don't want to run out of books in this series to read but luckily Come Alive will be out this month.
