Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm reading Walled (The Line, #2) by Anne Tibbets and finishing up the audio of Unbound by Cara McKenna . Once I've finished that, Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop will be my next audio 'read.'

Written in Red is a phenomenal book. I hope you love it, Angie! I finished up Sarah Maclean's series with Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover (The Rules of Scoundrels, #4) by Sarah MacLean Took me a bit to get into it but the second half, I was whipping through the pages and ended up with a bit of a cry. So delightful finish all in all.

I had to stop listening because I was at work and was unfocused on the book. I switched to Feral Sins. I'm loving it. It's hot as heck, and if I get distracted by work for a few seconds, I'm OK.

I am going to have to listen to Written in Red on my commute or just read it the old-fashioned way! It was too intense to miss anything.

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Black Ships (Numinous World, #1) by Jo Graham , which got boring towards the middle and end.

Started Braving Fate (The Mythean Arcana, #1) by Linsey Hall .

message 6855: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Braving Fate (The Mythean Arcana, #1) by Linsey Hall which was mediocre. There were points in the book that were eyerolling and unnecessary.

Starting Shielder (Shielder, #1) by Catherine Spangler .

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments So, to those who enjoyed Too Stupid to Live and Understatement of the Year. I just read Somebody Killed His Editor (Holmes & Moriarity, #1) by Josh Lanyon and if you can get past the really awful cover, the book was really good! Funny and sweet, lighter on the sex, and a throw back 'murder she wrote' detective show type mystery.

I really really liked it a lot.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Tellulah - -the same for me as to any books I find are under 4 stars. I just dnf them. I only want to read something right now that I love. Before, I wanted to read anything.

Right now I am on a Cara McKenna/Meg Maguire binge. I read these:

The Reluctant Nude by Meg Maguire Wild Holiday Nights Holiday Rush\Playing Games\All Night Long by Samantha Hunter Give It All (Desert Dogs, #2) by Cara McKenna

Out of all 3, the Reluctant Nude was my favorite. It was more Cara McKenna than Meg Maguire. It is set in Nova Scotia and the male character is a French artist -- it was a beautiful story. Second in that group would be Playing Games -- I loved that one, the characters and the setting. The third, -- and it is way behind the other two -- is the second in Cara's new romantic suspense/biker gang series. This is better than the first in the series, a lot better. There are really good scenes and amazing characters in this book but the storyline is not great and the genre makes it hard for it to be great. I feel like she read a lot of romantic suspense novels, mapped out the arc and the story line requirements and then wrote her books. I don't know why she is doing this, it is so anti-her books. But if anyone is interested in the series, the second is kind of worth sticking through. Romantic suspense can be a funny genre -- it even though it has bad things happening throughout there is this happy we are all in this together kind of feeling. But that is not what is great about Cara McKenna. She could write a really dark biker club book that would be so much better. But ah well.

5 stars for the first two. Maybe 3 for the third.

I think I need to re-read that. I remember it being okay but not sure why I didn't like it more.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Ah... yours was one of the reviews I looked for to see if you'd read it but you must not have reviewed it.

I've been binge reading all of them, lol. I'm on the third now.

That's weird. I wonder why I didn't review it. Do they get more focused on romance - or does the mystery really stay at the heart of them?

message 6870: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments The mystery's more the center. Only 2-3 sex scenes in each book. They kinda remind me of Psycop in the way that it's actually a cozy mystery series which happens to have a side story where two men reconnect, in the way that Psycop is more about the ghosts and mysteries and Jacob and Vic are just part of that story... if that makes sense.

message 6871: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Actually, I'm nearly halfway through the third one and it seems almost a little more JX/Kit oriented than the previous two, but no I wouldn't say it's a 'romance'. It's definitely a cozy mystery series. (I think that's what I like about it though, lol.)

Well, I re-read the first one and thought it was a ton of fun. Not sure what my problem was the first time unless I was looking for flat out romance or something.

What are those books, Dee?

message 6875: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Fatal Shadows is the first one - also by Josh Lanyon - they are a mysteries series/lite romance with the same guys through-out - book 4 was a killer (IIRC) but it all ties up in bk 5

message 6876: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I haven't read those yet but Adrien English pops up in the 3rd book of this series. I'll probably read those next, since I'll be out of Moriarity and Holmes books, haha.

I really like them. I'm glad you liked it Tellulah. You were the first person I thought of when I read the first one. :)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Have been so busy lately....and truth be told a little melancholy so have mostly retreated into myself when I have free time.

I've been reading the Frontier Magic series by Patricia C. Wrede which has some mixed reviews but I'm completely enamoured. (Word of the Day folks: Enamoured. Use it in a sentence). Magic, dragons, mammoths and the wild west. Love it.

Thirteenth Child (Frontier Magic, #1) by Patricia C. Wrede Across the Great Barrier (Frontier Magic, #2) by Patricia C. Wrede The Far West (Frontier Magic, #3) by Patricia C. Wrede

Just finished Kindling the Moon which I quite liked. I'll probably move on to book two at some stage soon.

Kindling the Moon (Arcadia Bell, #1) by Jenn Bennett

But have a short novella by Merry Farmer, Seeks for Her which I think will be a conservative romance set in the 1860s on the American frontier. Then it's on to a contemporary romance from Tracy Brogan, Love me Sweet.

Seeks For Her by Merry Farmer Love Me Sweet (Bell Harbor, #3) by Tracy Brogan
