While this group was specifically formed as a place for members of the gay pop culture site The Backlot (formerly AfterElton) to discuss gay-themed books, we welcome anyone who wants to join in the conversation.

Due to the recent advent of new technologies (including the eBook market and print-on-demand publishing) as well as a proliferation of small independent publishers specializing in gay material, there is now more gay-themed reading material in print (physically and electronically) than at any other time in human history. Amazing! We’re lucky to have such a huge amount of this type of reading material at our disposal.

Of course, quantity doesn't equal quality, and here’s where you all come in. We’d like to hear what you’re reading---we’re always looking for fresh recommendations here. There are so many quality works out there, unknown or under-appreciated, and it’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to discover them. While we do tend to focus on the positive in this group, if you should happen to read something that you feel is so bad you need to warn others away from it---why, feel at ease to discuss such works as well.

We don't expect anyone to post in-depth detailed reviews (though you can certainly do so if you wish). Writing a few words regarding the subject matter of the title in question, and whether you've enjoyed it or not, will do nicely. Any kind of description that will provide people with enough information to determine if they’d like to read the book will be helpful.

I enjoy a wide range of genres myself, though I do have my favourites like everyone else. So, please feel free to post about any type of gay-related reading material: highbrow or lowbrow, fiction or nonfiction---anything with gay characters or plot-lines or themes is fair game. You can never tell---the book you mention may be precisely the sort of thing that another group member will love.
