Why does everyone hate Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace?

Comments Showing 251-300 of 354 (354 new)    post a comment »

Sujimaraj Because...
1) Jamie Campbell bower is not as hot as we expected jace to be
2) the majority of the fan base of this series are older teen to young adult FEMALES! So we all had extremely high expectations for the character in the book that was insanely hot, affluent, badass, protective but caring ( when it came to Clary). He was the guy we all, as females, dream of ( mostly). We were going to critique whoever played him to the max. ;) that's just who we, as fan girls, are.
3) Personally I didn't think he had the exact attitude of jace, he wasn't as arrogant.
4) however he had good acting but dear god couldn't they have got him to look better?!

That's my personal intake of this pressing issue. If you have different views, that's to be expected as we all have our own versions of the mr.right Jace. ;)

Okay. Thats a relief. Thank you!

And, XD yeah, I think its inevitable that whoever played Jace or however close they tried to stay to the book, we were going to criticize and scrutinize them. We all have the perfect image of what things look like in our heads, and everyone has a different imagination.

Gabrielle Karamazov He's a bad actor. I did not imagine him at Jace. His cheeks and eyes were too hollow, and his eyes were too big. No just no

message 255: by Aliza (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aliza he looks nothing like the Jace i imagined and i am reluctant to lower my expectations. I guess I just don't like the way he looks and I feel that that is just as important as his acting skills. I was really disappointed when he was cast as Jace and seeing the movie (which was very good overall) didn't change that.(p.s. why did they make him british?)

message 256: by Ariel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ariel Yeah! Why did they make him British? XD I also kinda wished he hadn't been SO SKINNY. Jace has muscles. That's a fact.
I don't think he was horrible though. At first I was disappointed when they cast him, but I've accepted him. Too late to change it now!

message 257: by Danyel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Danyel Anastasiou Yes, I agree that it is too late to change. He is to thin in the face and body. As the movie went on through I got use to him and I loved the kissing scene. I would have liked Issy character to have more lines. I just wanted there to be more. I do look forward to a squeal. Maybe the movies would better as mini series. They could have more time to explain things and develop the characters better.

message 258: by Ariel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ariel Yeah! It would have been nice to have more character development. Because I already knew the characters from reading the books, I really didn't feel as if I lost anything in understanding the characters, but I think if I had never read the book before I saw the movie it wouldn't have been as good. But also, I think in the first book you didn't get to know the characters that well, it was mostly focused on Clary and Jace. As the series goes on you get more of other characters' stories.

message 259: by Amber (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amber I read somewhere (or saw in an interview) that the reason the shadowhunters are British is because the Directors/Producers wanted a way for the "mundanes" and the "shadowhunters to be more noticeably different. more so than just dressing in just black clothing and carrying weapons. So they gave all the shadow hunters British accents.

Also it's not that big of a stretch to think of Jace at least with an accent, he was raised in Idris for the first 10years of his life and, Idris is located in Europe.

I don't have a problem with the accent, for me it makes JCB that much more Hot!

message 260: by Joye0326 (last edited Sep 18, 2013 07:34AM) (new)

Joye0326 Actually Jamie looks the same as my imagination.
It is a little bit weird because I never heard of him before.
Whatever, he is my Jace.

I found many people cast Alex Pettyfer as Jace.
But I think AP is too good-boy.

Ha! That makes sense. I was wondering if that was why. And those accents are pretty fun to listen to. :)

message 262: by Fox (new) - rated it 3 stars

Fox D'aoust At the beginning I was like, "Oh, they picked him" (a very much whatever response)
By the end of the movie I admit he had me drooling a little bit. Something about him was sexy, so I was like Alrightttttttttt
Clary's mom is still the hottest though.

message 263: by C.R. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.R. I loved him as Jace soooooooo much. He's actually one of my major big celebrity crushes... yes i'm weird okay but I think he's really really really hot along with Logan Lerman... is it kinda weird that they also play two of my most favorite male characters? Jace and Percy? But I thought he was amazing!!!! "They weren't real cops..." Josh I love him sooo much!

message 264: by Sue (new)

Sue I will NEVER understand why people think the LOOKS of an actor are so very important. Jamie understands Jace, and he interprets him the way Cassie wanted Jace to be played. He's not responsible for changes that were made from the book to the movie script, and I think we all agree that his acting is impeccable.

message 265: by Saleen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Saleen He's perfect as Jace! Who wouldn't love him?!

message 266: by Ruby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ruby Havent seen the movie cause Im waiting for the CD to come out so I can pause it every 10 minites to fangirl but Jamie is exactly how i imagined Jace and I think he will play it well

message 267: by Sara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sara I liked him as Jace. He pulled it off pretty good. Of course I saw the movie before reading the books but still. He is good looking to me. Not "Stunningly Attractive" like people were saying Jace should be but Good looking enough to pull off Jace to me. :)

message 268: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Jamie Campbell Bower!
He is not the Jace I wanted but he is still good. I think I love the movie partly because of him.

message 269: by Abbey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abbey Ott I honestly think that Jamie is the best actor that they could have picked.

message 270: by Chiara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Chiara I just think that his appearance doesn't fit with Jace at all.

message 271: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alyssa I'm sorry but I hated Jamie as Jace, I thought that the way he said his lines totally changed the character. Plus in Jace's description he was called "stunningly atractive", and I dont think Jamie is good looking. way too gaunt.

message 272: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Retterer I dont dislike Jamie, but the book ( THE BOOK)said that Jace was built and had tan skin, nothing against the actors, but I was very disappointed with the movie, I know you cant be perfect, but come on!!!!. I have read the books, at least get it close. I was so taken by by the books, I could'nt wait for the movie, and was very disappointed, I just want the mmovie to give me the same feel as the book.....IT DIDNT

message 273: by Patrí (new) - rated it 2 stars

Patrí Jamie is so skinny. And he doesn't look cocky or hot. He looks depressed.

message 274: by Geff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Geff Jamie looks like a small town rockstar, imho

message 275: by Beth (new) - rated it 5 stars

Beth His a good actor, but just not what we all imagine. When Simon is better looking than Jase then you can see why this particular actor doesn't fit the bill. His too skinny and reminds me of 80's Rock and Roll stars. Max Thieriot or William Moseley would have been a better choice.

message 276: by Joye0326 (new)

Joye0326 I like Jamie.
Alex Pettyfer always looks too good-boy to me.

message 277: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily I loved him. I am sorry the movie did notdo well. now they won't make CoA

Mimi-loves-her-books! I must admit that I was originally hoping for Alex Pettyfetter to play Jace. HOWEVER, Jamie did an AMAZING job. His acting was really good and he fit the role well. I can't wait to see him in the next film :)

message 279: by Amber (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amber Constantin Films has stated that they do plan on filming CoA.

here is a link stating what they said about the Mortal Instruments Franchise.

Rachael i wish Alex Pettyfer played Jace Jamie Didnt Have Enough Arrogance to play Jace and honestly i dont think that he is the cutest Alex is way cuter

message 281: by Alex (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alex I was so unhappy when they cast him as Jace. He didnt look right and I had never really liked him in other movies. But when I went to see the movie, and saw how much he truly cared about the story in interviews, I was actual pretty happy with him. The movie will never be exactly what I wanted it to be, but I have accepted that he is playing the role now and I am really looking forward to the next movie.

message 282: by Mary (new) - added it

Mary He's not sexy enough for the role of Jace. I'm not saying he's ugly, I just don't think he's good for Jace.

Astoria I didn't watch it. Many people told me I was better off not watching it, and since neither of the actors cast of the Alec or Jace roles lived up to what my idea of them when reading the books was, I stayed away it. I don't hate Bonnie Wright's ex boyfriend, but he doesn't fit my idea of Jace, and I always imagined Alec being cuter, and with very black hair.

message 284: by Maria (new) - rated it 4 stars

Maria 'Cause he's ugly - plain and simple.

message 285: by Kirsty (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kirsty i think he's pretty damn good looking! but... but... he's not Jace! He's definitely not the Jace I imagined, but then again no person could play the sexy guy I had in my brain

message 286: by Nicole (new) - rated it 3 stars

Nicole Because Jace is supposed to be panty-dropping hot.

message 287: by Paige (new) - rated it 4 stars

Paige Yin I love Jamie as Jace, in my opinion, it is because he doesn't acts even a little like Jace in real life that makes him being Jace more interesting.

I think he's hot, especially with the right hairstyles and that cold expression. love his chiseled jawline.
he has always the vulnerabilities of Jace, also the beauty as the book describe him looking like his mother.

most people probably doesn't like him because it doesn't fit the image they imaging Jace in their head. I know lots people like Alex Pettyfer, I am not one of them. IMO, he's just cast as too many blonde heroes in all other fandom, I am just tired of seeing him being cast. so here I am, completely loving Jamie playing Jace, and I can't wait for City of Ashes.

Magdalena Alex Pettyfer is like the "go to" guy when you put your own dream cas for like every YA book if the main character is blond ... and he can't play all of those roles ...and who knows may he wouldn't do well as Jace. And Jamie have asome personality for Jace and as for
Nicole wrote: "Because Jace is supposed to be panty-dropping hot."
for me he is

Kaleigh Knight ok all of you who have a problem with Jamie watch it again and again until u change ur mind cause I can't think of anyone more hotter sexier smoother and just down right magnificent then Jamie as jace he is abosolutely flawless and makes me squeal everytime I see him. If anyone had to be jace that wasn't Jamie then I would never watch it again. so all of u who like alex can go and suck on his dick

thx kk

message 290: by Sasha (last edited Mar 31, 2014 12:24PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sasha just like in any book we read, we picture the guy to look a certain way. Okay okay I must admit that when i heard who was playing Jace I was upset. But in all honestly, he is growing on me!!!
Now they need to hurry and make the next movie

message 291: by Marah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marah Don't hate me, but I think Jamie is ugly. He is no where near the Jace I pictured in my head. While he kind of acts like Jace, he doesn't fit my standards which are set sky high because of books! He needs to be built bigger and could be much hotter.

message 292: by Mad (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mad Don't get me wrong I don't hate Jamie as Jace but He is just not as cocky as I wanted him to be. My Jace was quick witted and a smart ass but Jamie is just too dead pan for me. He's good but he could be better in my eyes.

message 293: by Johnny (new) - rated it 5 stars

Johnny Jenkins I never pictured him as Jace. When COB came out, I was still in the process of finishing City of Lost Souls, and I still couldn't find it in my mind to picture him as Jace. I love Lily Collins as Clary though.

message 294: by Ellen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ellen Morrisom i love him but i think that alex p is more a jace then jamie is, he's is just more jacey then jamie, but dont get me wrong i love jamie in all the other things he has done, i just think that alex would be better, and lets face it jamie isnt really "golden skined" and abbs like jace is supposed to be.

message 295: by Feilkar (new)

Feilkar I think this topic is old but anyway. I thought Jamie's casting was well done. I mean originally, I hadn't really thought of anyone as Jace. Alex Pettyfer is certainly good looking, but I could never actually imagine him being Jace. Watching the movie, I think Jamie does a good job at getting Jace's mannerisms down and I guess every one will say something different about his looks, we all have different tastes after all. Personally I think he is rather attractive, he certainly has a very striking look about him.

message 296: by Lev (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lev Honestly even after seeing the movie Jamie is not my Jace. I'm not mad he was choosen or anything because I think he did a good job its just I was expecting a really muscular person to play Jace and Jamie wasn't that at all. But Jamie got his sarcasm part perfectly so I was really happy about that!

Kirti I saw the City of Bones movie some days ago.
The truth is that I never pictured the characters as any actors in my mind, so I am okay with whoever is acting.
They tried their best I think, and none of the actors' acting was bad.
Really... the actor did a great job in the movie.
Except for his hair - from some far shots, it looked like a spider. But, maybe that is to show the "Hunter" thingy.
Otherwise, it was alright.

Cassandra Frederick I don't hate him. He just wasn't who I was picturing as Jace. However, he grew on me as the movie went on.

message 299: by Janel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Janel Katherine I was actually very pleased with Jamie being casted for Jace! I pictured Jace to be just like him in my mind. The accent took me off gaurd a little bit but it didn't send me into a made frenzy.I think they could easily of gotton away with it being that they are from Idris, and the fact that Jamie is a spot on Jace physically,I think they did great casting him!

How is Jamie spot on Jace physically? He is not even close to how he was described in the books
