Why does everyone hate Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace?

Anna The only thing that bothers me is that he doesn't look at all like Jace. Jace is supposed to be slim but muscular, with golden eyes. This guy is so thin and he has blue eyes. But I guess that if he got the part, he must be really good at being Jace. And if they keep Jace's sarcasm in the movie, and not just his bad temper, I think that Jamie can be a pretty good Jace. I am really excited about this movie, and I am 90% sure it won't disappoint me!

message 152: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna That exactly the way I feel about him! I think what we can't just him as an actor by the way he looks, although he doesn't look at all like Jace. We just have to wait and see, and then judge!

Honey have you seen MR. BANE...? Oh my feels! Godfrey, I don't care about Jace just my Asian gay warlock husband!

message 154: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate I think mostly because the fan base kind of pictured Alex Pettyfer, at least I did, and he's just not what I had in mind. I was beginning to get mad because I thought they were ruining the movie from the trailers I'd seen, but I watched the theatrical trailer and legitimately started crying. Jamie Campbell Bower is beginning to grow on me because of that theatrical trailer. I think if I watch the movie as a first-timer and don't incorporate my book knowledge, I'll love it, but that will be difficult. :3

message 155: by Debbie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Debbie Krumme It took me a while to warm up to it. Out of all the books I have read Jace is the one I could most clearly see in my head. I think the problem is his build for one. Jace is supposed to be part angel and BUILT (not to many young actors are right now). What changed my mind? An article with Cassandra Claire saying he nailed the screen test (birthday scene) with Lily Collins. If Jace and Clary's characters don't have chemistry, it won't work. After seeing the trailers, I am beyond excited!

message 156: by Leni (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leni I completely understand what you're getting at Reese, but that isn't Jamie's fault. He just plays the role. At first I was a little unsure but, after watching the theatrical trailer, I thought he made a great Jace. I didn't necessarily have one in mind, so that made it easier to accept him.
WHY DID EVERYONE WANT ALEX PETTYFETTER?????????!!!!!!!!!! I just don't understand; he just... yech! Sorry, had to get it out.

OMG! ARE YOU SERIOUS! HE DOES HIS OWN STUNTS! CASSANDRA CLARE CRIED! WHAT! AAHHHH!

Enyoung Mostly because of his physical state as he's not more muscular than what most fans imagined.

Jamie is so charismatic and a heartthrob though so I think that now more fans love him as Jace instead of another actor. Plus he's dating Lily Collins in the movie and in real life which is a plus! Yet I wonder how it's going to turn out if they break up ...

Brittany I'm disappointed because he is just NOT what i picture as Jace to be. I picture Alex pettyfer-ish type, real beautiful. Jamie is in no way attractive to me so it's going to kinda kill the movie for me just a tad.

Blujeanbooks96 I do believe that everyone hates him as Jace because he isn't what they pictured - and yes, fair enough, not what I pictured either. But he was probably the better choice actor wise. So just cause he wasn't 'hot or good looking/beautiful' and 'what I pictured him to be' seemed to be the problem.

I completely agree, I'd rather see a film with amazing actors than one with all good-looking people. To me, he is Jace and the trailer proves it.

(Also, JCB was in Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp and that film is pretty damn good.)

Yes! Love that movie and the entire cast was effing awesome!

message 170: by Virginia (new)

Virginia I think Jamie Campbell Bower will be PERFECT as Jace! He and Alex Pettyfer have a similar look anyway....so it's not too far a stretch between the two... I'm not sure why people are so upset either. Give the guy a chance, for goodness sake! There's obviously a reason he was cast as Jace....because the directors and the book author thought he would be great in the role. I do too....so have a little faith, Everyone!

message 171: by Gabby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gabby I saw a few people asking why the shadowhunters all have British accents in the movie. I saw in a recent interview with the director AND Cassandra Clare that they both at first were just going to have them have American accents but they wanted a way to put emphasis on the fact that Shadowhunters and Mundanes were different. Therefore, all of the Shadowhunters(with the exception of Clary) have British accents. The guy playing Alec (Kevin Zeggers) is even faking an accent. I dont have a problem with it. I have a weakness for British accents:)

message 172: by kim. (new) - rated it 3 stars

kim. alex pettyfer is such a flop, good lord. he can't act, and everyone who still fancasts him in ya franchises must have not watched magic mike because son you do NOT look young enough to play a teenage boy. (if you think teenage boys look like that, you're delusional.) (maybe they do if they failed several grades in school.) (i've been out of high school for a few years now but i have not forgotten what a teenage boy looks like and it's not alex 'flop acting' pettyfer.)

that being said, i have never seen jcb in anything in my life except when he was--very briefly--gellert grindelwald in harry potter (now some stan is going to be all up in here say "but he was in twilight!" yeah i didn't watch twilight get off my back). maybe he can't act to save his life, i don't know. even if cassandra clare said she was impressed by his acting, does anyone actually think cassandra clare is going to get online and say "well, saw jcb acting today. he was horrid. 2/10. can't believe they cast him." no. she's not. but i'll take him over alex floppyfer any day of the week. my dog could act better than alex pettyfer, and she's very old and can't get up the stairs by herself.

message 173: by Momina (last edited Jul 23, 2013 02:24PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Momina Honestly. I don't like him as Jace at all. I just did not imagine Jace like jamie. Neither did I imagine jace like Alex pettyfer. I had this own good looking cocky guy in my head. But it was definitely not either of them. and maybe I'm wrong, and he will pull it off and make the movie good since I've never seen him act.

message 174: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think it is a matter if he can act. I've seen him in several movies, and I believe his acting is convincing. He's just so thin XD

I've said it before, I absolutely adore him, just not as jace. I have a feeling he will prove me wrong though.

message 175: by Eliana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eliana Honestly, he doesn't look AT ALL how I was picturing him. He's a good actor, but I was really hoping Alex Pettyfer would play Jace, because he's a good actor and looked like how I imagined Jace. Truth is, I expected a REALLY hot guy, but I'm not gonna freak out over it. Jamie's okay, and it's not like the movie's ruined because I don't think he's cute.

Kaitlin I'm sorry but I really wanted Jace to be portrayed as an extremely good looking guy (sorry I don't think Jamie is) who has something about him that just entrances everybody. I don't mean to bash on Jamie because he really is a talented actor but I don't like his personality in real life or the way--that I've seen--he plays Jace. I think Jace was the most important person to be casted because without him the books would not be nearly as good as they are, so he just had to be right. So personally I don't think he looks like Jace, acts like him or has the presence of him and I don't think it was the correct choice.

Kaitlin Ariel wrote: "I totally agree with his acting talent being the most important thing. But, I think, (at least for me anyway) that people are so focused on his looks because of the way Jace is described in the boo..."

I agree with you completely. His looks are a very big part of who he is in the book.

message 178: by Grace (last edited Jul 23, 2013 10:04PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Grace i think he will make an absolutely beautiful Jace. if you see his interviews about the charcater and the series, hes totally invested in the franchise and worked his ass off for it. he and lily have a great chemistry on screen, and i cant wait to see how he does being Alec's parabatai on the big screen. he understand the character, acts sensationally, and hes pretty to look at (i mean. those cheekbones.). i rest my case.

Books By Ces WATCH THE FREAKING MOVIE FIRST... then all of us will be able to provide an honest and decent opinion... from the trailer is just imposible.

Nurlely Cecilia (CesBookGeek) wrote: "WATCH THE FREAKING MOVIE FIRST... then all of us will be able to provide an honest and decent opinion... from the trailer is just imposible."

An honest opinion is to say that Jamie is not as handsome as how Jace is described in the books, before or even after watching the movie. Jamie can act well and is awesome in Sweeney Todd, but he doesn't have such stunning look. As for Jace, beside being blessed with talents, Jace is also about his gorgeous look.

To decide that Jamie is as super gorgeous as Jace after watching the movie is bias.

Karah Sommer Rachel wrote: "I just dont think that he is hot like I imagined Jace to be. Jace is cocky and arrogant and he gets away with it because he is "stunningly attractive" as he calls himself. And Jamie Campbell Bower ..."

Hahahaha! You totally said it :D

message 182: by Jen (new) - added it

Jen Watching Sweeny Todd, I couldn't take my eyes off Jamie. I loved his otherworldly eyes. In the meantime, I became a Game of Thrones fan, and followed Lena Headey's IMDB entry to TMI. When I found out that both King Arthur and Maxwell Demon were going to be in this, [obscene bodily function]! Jamie looks angelic (I think the hint of alien really works here), and has bulked up quite nicely for the role. Personally, I'm really into the rockstar vibe so it's is really working for me. Also I will enjoy looking at Jonathan Rhys Meyers-- always a delicious villain.

Alissandra Kyle He is just so not what I pictured Jace to look like. I don't find Jamie attractive - at all. Not the least. Jace is supposed to be this awesome fighter and so good looking. Jamie looks rather small to me, not at all someone to be intimidated by and just not the sexy guy I always envisioned Jace to be. To me, it was completely miscast.

SpookySoto To me He's not attractive.

message 185: by Izzy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Izzy Gray i dont understand it, i think he is the most PERFECT jace possible, nobody else could ever even attempt to be jace as good as jamie. i know i havent actually seen the film yet, but to me he just IS jace!

message 186: by Marisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marisa Nicol honestly I hated him at first! But then after seeing the trailers and pictures I really can't deny how perfect he is for this part <3

Have to agree...Jace is suppose to be this studly hunk and Jamie is sort of a twiggy twerp. I don't find him at all attractive. I honestly don't like 99% of the casting for this movie.

message 188: by [deleted user] (new)

Whoa whoa whoa- guys! Jace isn't meant to be a pro wrestler! Jamie is a great Jace. At first I was unsure, but now I'm positive that Jamie=Jace.

message 189: by Tessa (last edited Aug 01, 2013 02:41PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tessa I really don't like Jamie as Jace. His accent really annoys me. Also, he just isn't attractive to me. He looks more like a British gentleman than someone who fights demons. And he isn't the only thing wrong with the movie. I really don't think I am going to watch it.

message 190: by [deleted user] (new)

Omg Helen! Have you read The Infernal Devices? It's a series by Cassandra Clare about British gentlemen who fight demons.

message 198: by Serena (new) - rated it 1 star

Serena People hated Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark (Hunger Games) and now they love him.

People are just judging too quickly.

I don't know why, but I feel like Jamie will make Jace likable (no offense, but he was a real dick in the books).

Peeta was not a handsome young man. Some people were not happy that Josh being cast as Peeta because Liam who plays Gale is hot and handsome. Peeta's fans were not happy thinking that more people would choose Gale over Peeta because of Liam's hotness. And Gale's fans teased Peeta's fans for that fact. When the movie was released, people were back to the fact, that Peeta was not known for his look, but for being a kind and smart young man.

Jace is different. Jace is super handsome and hot. Jamie is not blessed with such look. No matter how wonderful Jamie is as an actor, he is still not the strikingly handsome young man, as Jace is always described in the book.

2 different matters with 2 different complaints.

Miranda Kerr-Bloom josh hutcherson was perfect for the role of peeta. he is just too short whereas peeta is tall. katniss is supposed to be thin and kinda short but jennifer lawrence is big boned and not super thin. but they are all perfect for the role.

so what im trying to say is, even if their physical appearance doesnt match up to our standards, it all comes down to how they play the role. then thats the point where we judge if they are ok or not for the character they are playing.

honestly i hope they would turn the infernal devices into a movie. i dont think they find the perfect cast for will tessa and jem. and the book is just tooo perf to be ruined by a movie.
