Lorna- Help please again. You were kind enough to help me on 6-25-18(see my comments) on a buddy read book but I do not see where that was posted after your help. The buddy read was to have started tomorrow on 7-09-18.
Thanking you in advance for your time.
Alex, I'm sorry but the scheduling and setting up of the Buddy Reads needs to be by Bentley when he returns. However, I am not sure when Bentley will be back. I know that you have been looking forward to this.
Thank you,

How do I join a book of the month group? I am not totally new but I joined when Bentley was away and there wasn't any book of the month discussions. So I was going to join the Madeleine Albright book reading even though I haven't started yet. I figured I could catch up this week. Thanks! Kathy Nolan
Hello Kathleen, welcome.
All you have to do is to go to the Discussion thread for the Albright book and simply introduce yourself briefly, tell us where you are reading from - (it looks like Hinesburg, Vermont) and tell us "very briefly" why you want to read the book - three sentences for the whole thing tops - "although you can right more if you like" - and then start joining into the discussion and post, post post - you can join the discussion at any time. Just jump in and try to respond to some of the questions posted and also you can post about something or anything in the chapter that interested you, etc.
Normally we send out event notifications; but I wanted to get everything back and up and running first - so I thought folks could just go to the thread and sign up - it is never too late to join in.

I received a note from goodreads that the club is going to start a book on the great influence on July 7th. Where do I find the list of upcoming books for BOTM? Having a deadline to read things is making me put aside some time to do it every week so I want to keep participating. Thanks, Kathy
Kathy, on our homepage, next to the Currently Reading books, you can see the Upcoming books to be read here. The one on the 1918 influenza will start on July 7.

I don’t see see July 7th or the book on the currently reading list. I only see books that have already started.
Kathy, on the Home Page there are a list of books currently being read. If you go to the right of that you will see upcoming reads listed beginning on July 7 and July 13 respectively, and as follows:
by
John M. Barry
by James Romm (no photo)
Those threads will be open at that time.

Found it when I looked at goodreads in my browser. Believe it or not it doesn’t show up in the app on my iPad. Thanks, Kathy
Great Kathy, unfortunately the Goodreads apps don't show all of the information. I am glad you went through your browser.
Hello Everyone - books coming up with future due dates will have threads set up accordingly and will be set up by the start date. We have a lot going on right now with a lot of books in progress so just be a bit patient and the threads will be set up so that you can join in. For the Romm book an event notification will be sent out.
Hello Kathy and others:
The threads are set for The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History

You can sign in on the Discussion thread - the discussion will begin on July 7th - the reading assignment for the first week is posted.

Bentley,I was trying to send you a book suggestion through a message but couldn't figure out how to do the address on messages. I typed in Bentley but it didn't link to you.
Have you considered adding Rigged by David Shimer to the BOTM club? It looks like it's only been recently published. It seems very timely and it's gotten very good reviews (although they are limited).
Rigged: America, Russia and 100 Years of Covert Electoral Interference
David Shimer (no photo)
I've added it to my want to read list.
Kathy
I added you as a friend - you should be able to send it to me as a PM.
We can add it for a future read (and I could lead it) or we could add it as a Buddy read. You might want to lead a buddy read - I could set up the thread for you if you like.
by
James Rosone
Is this the book? It shows a different author.
Thank you for trying the citation. We add the book cover, the word by is typed in and then the author's photo and author's link.
I am wondering if there were two authors to the same book.

I’d like to get a little more comfortable with the platform before I try the buddy read. I’m still trying to figure all the parameters out. I’ve got plenty of books on my list to read so I’d like to pick another one if you don’t mind.
Greetings! I'm new to GoodReads and wanted to ask: Is it allowed to ask somewhere in the History Book Club if someone wants to buddy read a book? My brother and I are looking for people interested in going through Gibbon's Decline and Fall and are wondering whether this thread is a place to find potential buddy readers, or whether such inquiry falls outside the scope/purpose of the thread. Sorry beforehand if I'm asking a question with an obvious answer :)

Thank you for your inquiry, Glaston. We do have a thread for BUDDY READS. The link is as follows: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
I will send Bentley a message that you are interested in doing a buddy read. He will be in touch with you when he returns and perhaps set something up for you. The citation for the book you have in mind should look like this:
by
Edward Gibbon

Is there a guideline how do make the book citation look like that? (And also, where should the book citation go?
With best regards,
Glaston.
Thank you, Glaston. As I said, Bentley wil be in touch with you when he returns. However, I am not sure when that will be.
And no, you may not set up your own thread. We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.
