Donna Moore | 96 comments I am seeking a book I read in the 1980s/early 1990s. It was an adventure-type story in which a passenger ship(possibly called Orion or Aurion)runs into an underwater obstruction (I thought it was an ice shelf in an unexpected part of the ocean). I remember there was a woman whose lover (maybe he was Russian or German) is killed in the crash. I think a specialist team are called in to rescue the passengers. I thought it may be one of Clive Cussler's books - though not Polar Shift as I have just read that one.

Donna--Clive sure does have a LOT of books that could possibly be this story. It really does sound like one of his. I've loaned out all of my Clive's (friend is heading out for a 3 month rotation) so I can't check them and see if one matches. I'm assuming you did check his list?

K. (aoutranc3) | 76 comments If it was Cussler, it sounds like it could be one of the Dirk Pitt books.

Donna Moore | 96 comments I did look at the blurbs for all the Dirk Pitt books, however, I don't think any of them are what I am looking for. After some more internet searching, I think the book I am looking for may be Ice by James Follett.

Let us know if it IS Ice Donna. We love adding to our group bookshelf--and someone else someday might be looking for you book and find it from this discussion thread.

We've had some books in the group that had 3 or 4 different threads linking to them. And the ones that I've checked out usually had different descriptions for each thread. Amazing for different people remember out of a book.

Donna Moore | 96 comments I found a copy of "Ice" in my local second-hand bookshop today.

Yes, it is the book I have been seeking.

Thanks to all for your help/suggestions. You would think I would remember a name like Ice wouldn't you??

Donna--is Ice a different book than suggested by Dee (Ice Hunt) or are you doing the same thing I did and absently dropping the "hunt" part of the title?

Still, I'm glad you DID find your book. Now, to just satisfy my cat's curosity itch. :o)

Andy Phillips | 240 comments I know this isn't a clear answer from the OP, but I saw this exact same question on a different site and the answer was confirmed to be "Ice" by James Follett. It would a bit coincidental for two ships called Orion to hit an ice shelf.

Donna Moore | 96 comments Just to confirm, the book I found is just called "Ice" and is by author James Follett.

I had also posted this same query on Abebooks' Booksleuth forum and confirmed on there that this was indeed the book I was seeking.

Andy Phillips | 240 comments Thanks, Donna. That's where I saw it, but I wasn't sure you were the same person!

Ok Donna--now that I know that it is actually Ice by James Follett I can shelve the book and move this down to Solved for you.

Congrats on finding it.
