Sasha (sashka0016) | 1 comments I've been wondering about this lately as the debate rages on between publishers and libraries.

The central issue seems to boil down to this: If you could borrow a free digital copy of ANY title just by downloading it off a library's website, would you still purchase digital content?
Assume: standard library borrowing terms, no compatiability issues, and no waiting lists

Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Tywyll I probably would.
When it comes to physical books, if I borrow it from the library and enjoy it enough to want to own it, I buy a personal copy. I haven't borrowed an ebook from the library yet, but the same principle applies (especially since a lot of Ebooks are less expensive than the physical copy.)
That's my opinion anyway. :)

I borrow both ebooks and audiobooks from my library all the time. If I love a book enough I will still buy it so I have my own copy.

That being said, many libraries (like mine) are limited in ebook and audiobook titles. I end up buying at least half of my books simply because they are not available through the library.

Rosanna Leo (rosanna_leo) Very true, Sheri. I know my library only has so many ebooks to offer right now. I love purchasing ebooks, and do return to the ones I love.

Ubiquitous Bubba (ubiquitousbubba) I do the same thing. I love the flexibility of getting an eBook and having it available on multiple devices. There are times when the tablet is less than ideal and I can still read on my phone. I like the immediacy of getting an eBook from the library as soon as it's available. If I find books I really like, I'll probably buy copies just so they're always available whenever I want to read them again.

Rinelle Grey (rinellegrey) | 22 comments Interesting question. Ebooks and libraries are difficult I think, given that ebooks aren't physical, there aren't waiting lists, and they don't get worn out. I think I would buy a book I enjoyed on principle, but I'm not sure that there is anything to push most people to. The only thing I can think of is if you want toreach a book availabe whereever you are, and you don't always have a network connection.

Ally Cabella | 3 comments I haven't borrowed any ebooks from my local library, but if I like a book, I will buy it. (Basically, if i liked it i WILL own it eventually!) I've got samples organized in shelves on my nook as "wish lists." It makes impulsive purchases incredibly easy! I have 13 in a shelf called "Previously Read - Want List". :) I categorize my samples that I want to buy in priorities. I also have a shelf of purchased books that I haven't read yet. (Theres over 30 in that one!) I have bought and read so many books since I got my first Nook 2.5 years ago. I also have downloaded many free books and its opened my eyes to many authors I would have never known about.

I still buy some physical books. Only "display" books tho. Books on photography, art or quilting, etc. Those wont ever have a digital replacement for me. I work in a printing company so I definitely understand the feel and smell of a "real" book!
