Hollowman | 55 comments The opening of this SFBRP was great -- Ron Goodwin's orchestral score (in the over-the-top/lyrical style) is good FUN! Yes, apart from the score, the 1962 movie sucked. The 1981 BBC mini-series is the best film treatment for several reasons, including: it's not limited to cinema time constraints, and it was better produced/written (Dr. Who producers were involved).
A YouTube review of 1981 version is here:

Book-to-film/tv treatments have to be done carefully. I think even with the best directors, the novel usually wins out (incl. better movies like Jurassic Park). Film-to-books are interesting ... sometimes they work very well, e.g., Alien series by Alan Dean Foster. Maybe someone can comment on other good/bad novelizations.

Anyway ...
Speaking of BBC post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, Survivors from the mid-1970s (also from prod./writers of Dr. Who) is very, very good. And it stands up even by today's stds. The 2005 series remake, also from BBC, was not nearly as good.

I like both 2001 and 2001.
