Every time I read a book that has anything nephilim related that's one of the things that comes to my mind, too. :)

I'm already reading the second book, and the reason why the scorpion thingies and the kids exist has been explained.

I guess that, seeing this is a series, the author can't reveal all the answers or else the others books had no reason to exist. Even though I don't like having a bunch of answered questions in my mind, that's the whole point of creating a book series. You get so curious that you'll read the next. The main objective of this book was finding Penryn sister and in the process the reader gets a sneak peek behind the whole angels and end of the world story, just enough to get you hooked on the series. And in my case, it worked. :)

(view spoiler)[Wow the last few chapters were gory and made me feel sick. Overall, an interesting read but I didn't really feel attached to the characters. The book ended at a place where the characters were 'safe for now' and doesn't make me particularly want to pick up the next book real soon. (hide spoiler)]
