I imagine the criteria for this is that it wasn't getting the views that it needed in order to justify the funding and production costs. As a comparison, the Tabletop episode where they play Chez Geek with Paul and Storm (chosen at random) has about 222,000 views, while the Sword and Laser episode with Patrick Rothfuss got about 37,000 views.Even the episode with George RR Martin (which would be my guess for the winner of the most popular S&L episode) only received 150,000 views.
While it's sad for those of us that liked the video show that it's disappeared for at least a while, it looks like it was just too 'big budget' in it's current format. I imagine that any future Sword and Laser video show will be a little more pared down.
My problem with the video show was that it was you tune only, not a downloadable podcast. I could subscribe and watch it offline, so I ended up just skipping the shows. I would even have downloaded an audio only of the video show, but I didn't see that feed anywhere either.

Geek and Sundry seems to be aiming for a more specific audience of gamer geeks this season, not just general nerdishness. Felicia is trying something new. Hopefully S&L can find a different venue.
Michele wrote: "Geek and Sundry seems to be aiming for a more specific audience of gamer geeks this season, not just general nerdishness. Felicia is trying something new. So Mike has the best guess and Michele isn't far off either.
I'd love to share every detail with you but that's just not a good idea for anyone involved, because it involves things that a lot of people just don't feel comfortable sharing. And that's not my call to make for other people.
Suffice to say that it was NOT an easy decision for them and Veronica and I COMPLETELY understood the reasoning and there's no hard feelings in any way. It's the nature of the business.
Sword and Laser isn't typical YouTube fare or at least not the typical type that does gangbuster Video Game High School type traffic. And nobody ever suggested we should change it to be something we're not and that is the most important thing in my book.
On an orthogonally related note, I got the hard drive from Pixel Corps today containing every episode of the video show. Woo-hoo! V and I are planning to dole those out as they pass out of the year-long exclusivity zone.
I'll also add a few more clips to Lem's YouTube channel.
And we're still talking to people and talking to each other about the best way to do another video show.

@Tob- you're somebody in my book buddy.
Tom wrote: "You know, my brother's name is Tim."I did not know that. Are you guys identical? I may deliver the Tim Tams to the wrong house if that is the case.
@GOB - that was a great use of that video clip.

Can we get a peek behind the curtain for the process of this? What criteria are involved in that decision? Is there any dialogue in the process? How is the news delivered (personally, I picture a note came with a box of red roses and rat heads)?
Have you done reflection on the overall process and what has come from that?
