Petolya stood firm, hands clasped behind her back, as she watched her Emperor read through the paper. She was a watchful owl, and in her human form she was even more watchful.
Aaron knew that when the human Italians separated from their draconic predecessor, they would try their hardest to overthrow the "Anomalies," but this...this "Axis Powers" was like a slap in the face.
Petolya knew what the paper was about. It was an invitation for the empire to join the Axis Powers, a united empire of Nazis, Facists and other things. It's intent was a collective world empire, just like Draconizica, but the Axis Powers did not have the interest of the people. "The Regulars have signed some kind of "Friendship of Italia and Germany" without consulting us."
"Do not call them regulars," said Aaron, "we are all equals, here, no matter our differences."
"Right, of course. Excuse me."
Petolya thought this was not right, but she let go of the thought.
"Sir, they threaten to break our countries. They already stole Draco-Germania."
Aaron paused, looking at the owl suspiciously.
"What did you say?"
"Sir, they stole the whole of Draco-Germania, dragons and all. Ser Weihnachtszeit surrendered the country. I think you should have listened to me and placed a stronger leader on the Draco-German throne, like Chamyou."
Aaron was speechless for a moment.
Draco-Germania consisted of people, dragons and other anomalies in Germany that opposed the Nazis and held true to Antonin. To hear of their heads being sliced through Ser Weihnachtszeit's weak mind and surrender of the people was like a shot to the heart.
"Your Eminence, they are stealing our countries. They are destroying everything we fought for."
She withdrew a crumbled paper and presented it before Aaron.
"I already told you, joining that war is not an option."
Petrolya scoffed, showing displeasure in Aaron's decision. She turned and left, and when she passed by Seraphina she whispered, "talk to your husband. He is crazy!"
Petrolya closed the door on her way out, leaving Aaron and Seraphina alone.
"What was that?" Asked Seraphina.
Aaron was gazing out of the window, thinking and thinking politically. He sometimes wished he was never re-elected to become Emperor. He wanted someone else to take the burden.
Every three or seven years, princes from the Royal Line are selected to compete in a three month (sometimes five) battle of wits. It is narrowed down to two finalists and the people of the Empire choose their leader. People across the world must vote for the Emperor. With Hologram Air it was easy for anyone to watch the Princes battle and pick which one they saw fit for the throne. Many many Princes from the overlapping generations of the Antonin Empire were selected, and four years ago Aaron had went against his own son, Ashuton, in the battle of political wits. Ashuton lost, making Aaron an Emperor again.
This "Axis Powers" was a thorn in his side.
Seraphina uncrumbled the paper Petrolya left on his desk and read through it. The paper was an invitation to join Britain, America, the Soviet Union and several other countries to their Allied Forces. In a private letter attached with the invitation document, President Franklin Roosevelt requested something that Aaron thought nobody knew about: usage to Draconic technology.
"My Italia is in shambles," said Aaron.
Seraphina told him what he dreaded to hear, "Join the Allied Forces. It is the only way you can protect your empire."
"I will not get into their war."
"Aaron, you must." She used his full name and in a serious tone! Was entering the war really his only choice? She continued on, "To show everyone you are a strong Emperor, you must fight for what you cultivated. Protect what you built."
"The killing, why must it be war?" Asked Aaron, stressing himself.
"You do not have to kill them. Simply capture them."
"It is not that simple."
"Aaron."
The glare she gave him was haunting. He tried not to answer, but the longer her glare burned into his vision, the more he felt she might have a point.
"Fine. We will enter this Allied Forces as Italia, not Antonin."
Seraphina's sweet smile made him feel war. She hugged him like a child embracing a lost relative.
"That's my Dragonboy~!"
He sent a letter of declination to the Axis Powers.

"With all-do respect, I decline your invitation. We in the Antonin-Draconizica Empire do not have a thirst for war and for you to go after our countries is an insult to our cause. We wish to unite the world. What you are doing is the exact opposite. I wish you and Germany luck in your fruitless assault on our family (sarcasm greatly intended)."

"He has declined." Ser Yasef was standing beside Mussolini as he read the letter.
"Accidenti drago!" He huffed as he threw the letter.
Instead of falling with force, the paper peacefully swayed from side to side as it descended to the floor. Ser Yasef snickered but caught himself too late.
"You think this is funny?"
Ser Yasef rapidly shook his head, "no, signore."
Mussolini circled Ser Yasef, making the young war general feel uneasy.
"Do you understand our goal?"
Ser Yasef replied fearfully, "The world is better without the Dragons and Crotonians."
"What else?"
"That we can lead the world towards greatness, and that the world is better with The Fair Races."
"Do you still believe in that?"
Ser Yasef was half dragon. Only he knew that. His mind and thoughts were in constant fights about what to believe in.
Believe that the world was better with human Germans only? And where would Italians be if things follow through?
Believe that people of the opposite races were impure?
Believe that the Holocaust had reason?
Believe that the slaughter of innocents served for a greater purpose?
These were the thoughts that plagued Ser Yasef.
"Do you still believe in our goal?" He asked again.
Ser Yasef stammered, "Y-yes."
His heart said "no."

Notes: Since this universe is alternate from yours, things happened differently. The Axis Powers was a group of humans that wanted to clear the world of anomalies (dragons, Crotonians) and other things and is similar to the Terrans, however the Axis Powers sought to control the world as well. Fighting against them was the only event in which Lucerano and Antonin acted together with Tyto Albia and America's United States. This was called the Allied Forces. Countries that were being peacefully led by Antonin had the title Draco before their names. Note, Weihnachtszeit means "Yuletide" in German. The three or seven year term for an Emperor is based off the Magicicada cycle (how long they sty underground before emerging). 13 years for some Magicicadas, 17 years for the others. Some Magicicadas come out when Tibicen/regular cicadas are out, this resulting in an overlapping generation.
This is the first part in a series of seven unconnected flash stories about the Axis VS Allies. The second is Tuskegee Airdragons. I'll post that one tomorrow (or when I finish it). This was extracted from Dragons and Cicadas.
