Amy Kelley "The Tale of Desperaux" by Kate DiCamillo is the story of a young mouse, a rat, a princess, and a kingdom filled with darkness. This story has a lot of different stories coming together to build on each other to make one plot thickening book. While reading "The Tale of Desperaux" there were a lot of very dark topics discussed and a great use of symbolism in the book. Before reading this story I had originally thought it was for the use of a younger aged classroom or child to read but after reading I realized the depth that is written in this book would be more appropriate for an older age classroom or student. This would be a great enriching book to really get the students or readers thinking and reading between the lines versus what is just written on the page. What is also important to point out is the very unique writing style of the author. I won't give away the ending of the book or how the author chooses to tell the tale but I do suggest picking this book up to read and figure all of that out!

wildflower TO READ!
It's a wonderful little tale. It's a little childish but I remember loving it.

Donna R A character within the Odd Thomas series (Brother Odd) by Dean Koontz makes reference to this book - he cherishes it.
I and my youngest read this book to eachother - our experience suggests the story is layered like an onion, as the childs reading comprehension develops the story will reveal more. Sadly, he's 15 now and not likely to sit back down with Despereaux even if bribed!

Michelle Robinson This is a good book, I read it to my children, I enjoyed it. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane was even better.

Wolfiegirl I would definantly read it, it's a very good book.

Kaitlyn I was required to read this book for school. Sadly, I didn't enjoy it.

Sandra A very good book indeed. Kaitlyn, in a few years, give it another go, for pleasure, not because you have to. You might be surprised.

Luna Belle Pris I say read! I think it' s appropriate for any age, any person who enjoys a fairytales.

Most definitely TO READ! It's a fairly easy read, with a very in depth undertone to it, if you're willing to search for it. One of my favorites!

Jayfeather Replying to Kaitlyn: Maybe you didn't enjoy the book then, but if you read it again, you will change your opinion on the book! :)

I'm planning on reading it again sometime, maybe next week :)

Gwendolyn Mia READ THE BOOK. JUST READ IT. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY. EVEN THOUGH IT'S A CHILDREN'S BOOK, YOU CAN STILL GET SO MUCH OUT OF IT. I SWEAR. JUST READ THE BOOK.

Rose Well...I am reading it right now and I honestly have to say that I don't really like it that much. I guess it's worth a shot though since some people enjoyed it.

DO NOT READ

Unorganized and boring plot. Bad characters. Annoying writing style. Far fetched. No point to book.

Jayfeather Replying to Rowan and Kaitlyn: I think you guys have the wrong idea. Seriously, just read the book again, and you'll LOVE it! Trust me!

Kh To read or not to read that is the question. To read, that is the answer.

J. Allen Nelson Must Read! (I will admit to being biased as I used to work with the wonderful Kate DiCamillo in the real world of the late 20th Century.)

Katlyn To Read!

Christine READ IT! Warm, amazing storytelling. My favorite kids book, beside A Little Princess.

Natalie In fourth grade I watched the movie but I couldn't finish the book because at that time I didn't understand a lot of words. But liked the parts of the book I read.
