Unresolved Issues?

I was wondering the same thing, actually. That plot line really only came up the once, but I guess we were supposed to have found it resolved in the ending...maybe?
She probably had been thinking about reacting to her father's life long abuse of her for a long time. And giving him the drug she stole from his plant was actually a start to doing so. So maybe her mind being somewhere else was thinking about what to do to her father next..???One thing I felt wasn't resolved was the fact that Jack actually was a participant in date rape during college with his soccer team. Even though he was 'first', and the girl was attracted to him each time, he knowingly let the rest of the team rape her afterwards, despite never being a 'fan' of the process.
This was mentioned once in a flashback, and then never recalled again -- it just stuck with me through the rest of the book, despite being convinced that he was innocent in the two formal charges.
The date rape was something I found a little difficult to swallow in the plot also. It seemed like Picoult was trying to prove that he wasn't the type of guy to do something like that, and ultimately the statement that he did it, even as a college student, shows that the accusations against him are more plausible. I also think that the way it was never mentioned again underplays the crime and to me, represented that he didn't actually learn anything from the experience, or feel remorse for it. I think Picoult could have easily abandoned that whole flash back, and the story would have benefited from it.
I agree - if she left it out the story would be more solid, and if she left it in, then something should have happened/been discussed at the end as a result of the fact that he was still guilty of something, even if it was long ago. I think the things revealed about Charlie and Amos were enough to cover the bases there.
Ms. Picoult did no research or at the very least elementary. I clicked a link that for whatever reason went directly to her.I will provide a very rude e-mail from Ms. Picoult to any who wants, like her work or not she has zero respect for all who pay good money and quite obviously things her readers are stupid.
i read the ending again...in a way i think i feel sorry for gilly"her mind already a million miles away"
"already years past her tears."
thats sad really... :'(
1. What about Emma? What happened to her? Why did Ms.Picoult have to write this episode and drop it? 2. The found piece of ribbon went unnoticed in the courtroom procedure having produced no reaction from the prosecution.
3. The semen theme was left unnoticed and disregarded by the court in the end.
4. The procedure of passing the verdict was a bit drastic swiwelling from pure hatred to believing the defendant.

Oh? I'd like to see that email.

Can you link me that email?
I thought this was one of the first Jodi Picoult's books that I ever read. I don't see any justice for Jack - even though his first accuser recants, nobody talks about getting his conviction overthrown. Also the not guilty verdict in the second rape case seems to be completely random. It was never brought to light at the hearing how the girls got Jack to be at their Beltane celebration and involved in their Wicca practices. Seems to be he seems to get framed for no reason at all

I just finshed Salem Falls. I was home sick today and plowed through the whole thing. I was wondering what ever came of the "Gilly is trying to kill her father" plotline. I have to admit, I was very surprised by the ending (sometimes I am a little dense) but I now want to know why that plotline went away.
