L. Wells (l_wells) | 110 comments Hi Guys,

It’s nice to get to know you all… Please tell us a little about your writing, where did you get your inspiration? Did you always want to write?

Well, what inspired me to write, honestly, was Pokemon, DragonBallZ, and Lord of the Rings LOL! I started doing comics with graphic art similar to Japanese anime and then the stories began to become more important and the actual art less important. As I continued I saw my art improve, but I really saw my passion with the character development, the stories plot, and the overall conflict become my main focus. Then I read Lord of the Rings and realized that writing was more of my passion than art/drawing. So thats what inspired me to write and I've won poetry and short story contest in school and in college as well as working on my own novel called "Heaven's Eyes". It will be a while before it is finished, but it is in the process of being written. That's my story. :)

My inspiration to write started with personal experience, about this month last year when i was kind of sad all the time and i felt that i could rely on the music that made me feel good, and i started thinking that people may relate to the things i was going through. but when i sat down to write the story completely changed and i'm still writing it. It might take a while but i like it so far! :P

L I have always loved putting my thoughts onto paper and being creative – it is an innate thing. As a child I would write stories like my heroine Josephine March (Little Women), and dream about spending the rest of my life writing…I also loved the elegance of ‘Jane Austen’ period with the quill and ink, and also aspired to become like Fanny Price. I am now currently an English student who writes book reviews for several companies, and spends 99% of my time with either pen and paper in hand or my head in a book.

I have always had a vivid imagination, ever since my mother read bedtime stories to me of classic Grimm’s fairytale and JRR Tolkien’s the Lord of the Rings. When I was 11 years old I was also enchanted by JK Rowling’s Harry Potter creation, and since then I formed an eternal love for the fantasy genre. The majority of what I write is in this genre, where I can be as creative as I like and ‘the sky is the limit’. Other works that stand-out in my life and which have instilled a love for dreaming is – ‘The Neverending Story’ and ‘Stardust’.

I am currently working on my first novel, epic fantasy, which I hope shall be the first installment within a planned series. In November I took part (for the first time ever) in “National Novel Writing Month” wherein I wrote 50,135 words and the beginning of my book. I have no family connections to writing nor do I really know why it appeals to me so much, but I am determined to keep on going – until one day my work might appear in bookstores so that others can share my love of dreams!

L. Wells (l_wells) | 110 comments Good for you- and good luck with the series :) we also love Jane Austen - she has been a big inspiration for our new book- :)

Inspiration comes from a thousand other books I've read, and, of course, life. People are such odd creatures; the things we do and say, why we do what we do. An idea forms and the imagination lets it run. What-if? That is my inspiration.

Thank you :) Yes, Austen is rather inspirational.

I like that...What if? That almost sounds like a slogan or a quote.
"What if? That is my inspiration."
You should add that in our "QUOTES!!!" section.
Never heard it put that way before. Thank you for that knowledge.

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 6 comments I don't think I could tell you what inspired me to write. For as long as I can remember it's the only thing I've ever wanted. I don't think writing is something I do, I think it's something I am :)

Like it :)

Stan Morris (morriss003) | 7 comments I'm Stan Morris and I wrote my first two books when I was fourteen. That was in the days when you wrote in cursive. Typewriters were very expensive. I suspect that I was inspired by Star Trek and hormones.

L JK Rowling also has inspired me to write. She has proved that anyone who focuses and puts their mind to a set task (such as writing a book) CAN do it. You don't need money or connections, but sheer determination and passion. She is a true heroine and an astonishing writer.

Chris Patrick (cepatrick) | 1 comments I wrote when I was younger. I became convinced by the time I was 18 or so, that it wasn't for me. Little things here and there.

Anyhow, I started to get into the world of Cinema Production, little by little. I enjoy reading and writing fiction and non-fiction, and especially Sci-Fi Fantasy.

Tracy | 21 comments A great story idea, my love of reading and my life-long mermaid obsession! (I'm a little less fanatical as a grown up, however I still covet those fancy neoprene mermaid tails!)

message 16: by Jake (new)

Jake Yaniak I purposefully avoided reading the Harry Potter series (and any other fantasy literature) until after I had finished writing my fantasy novel. I wanted to keep myself from 'borrowing' too many ideas from other writers. The end result was a fantasy novel as much inspired by Hobbes' 'Leviathan' (among other philosophers) as by anything else.

As long as I can remember I have wanted to write a fantasy story. My reading of philosophy sort of breathed life into my endeavors.

F.J. Hansen (fjhansen) | 4 comments It all began when I was 8 years old and started collecting Star Trek and Star Wars Micro Machines. With these, I created a series of Star Trek-based stories. One day, about a month before I turned 11, an idea came to me that I should write these stories down. A few years later, while I was expanding my science fiction horizons, I had another idea to create my own, original series, which slowly turned into a whole Universe of its own.

In 2004, after completing 40-or-so short stories and a number of short "novels" that averaged 14,000 words, I had a sudden interest in dragons like Draco from Dragonheart. I read Dragonworld and discovered Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern. These, especially Pern, inspired my Draconia series.
