How come Sebastian is all evil and Tessa is perfectly nice when they both have demon blood in them?

i think it has nth to do with the demon blood bc magnus as an example was a warlock but he was nice and kind, i think it has to do with the way they were raised up, like valentine raised sebastian to be the villain while tessa was raised as a normal girl

Noami Cengaam My theory is that Lilith blood makes Sebastian more evil because Lilith is a greater demon then Tessa's dad, making her blood- i guess more dark and sinful and Lilith just so happens to be the 'mother of all evil',meaning that her evil must have dominated sebastian heart/mind.

Another thing is sebastian was raised by a sadist and growing up he didn't receive the sort of love or affection that a children should receive. instead he was raised as a sick ruthless demon spawn for his sick and psychotic father's cruel intentions, while Tessa was raised with as much as love and affection as any 'mundane' would get for 16 years of her life.

Tegan Johnson Its the way they were brought up, not who they are stereo typically meant to be.

Bailey This year in school we did like really in depth discussions about whether people do evil things because of how they are born or if it is a learned quality. We read the books The Bad Seed by William March and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. The Bad Seed focused on something genetic while In Cold Blood was more how they were brought up although there was some mental illness involved in one of the men. I think that based on what I have read and of course the situation in the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices that Sebastian is evil because he was raised by Valentine along with the fact of his demon blood. Tessa was raised in mostly a happy family. Maybe the fact that she didn't know about her demon blood helped. Sebastian obviously knew and if you think of yourself as something eventually that is what you'll grow to be. This is just my opinion on why the demon blood has affected them differently.

I get that Jocelyn was scared, but it wasn't Sebastian's fault. I stand by what I said... Sebastian's behaviour is totally Valentine's fault, as well as Jocelyn's."

It was also Valentine's fault that Jace was arrogant, sarcastic and pushed people away. But Jace didn't grow up an evil person."

Yeah I agree with that idea; Tessa, I guess, was raised to be happy and fun and a bookworm, but Sebastian was taught to unleash his demon cruelty.
Not to mention that maybe Tessa's demon side just wasn't as strong, ya know? Strength in demon varies quite a bit, so I feel like Tessa's demon side might have been genetically smaller and less powerful.
