Its an interesting question but personally I believe they do love each other. You have to remember this is fictional and also a fantasy series. In their world shadowhunters marry young and love passionately because they know they may die young due to their lifestyle, a.k.a kicking demon butt. Clary and Jace are in many high intensity moments such as fighting together, when u r in a life threatening situation the rules of logic over your feelings change. Yes maybe Clace could have had development, but from book 1 to book 6 they grow and better each other. And isn't that the best relationship, that you make each other better people?
I agree in some things with what you said guys. But I think we must consider that they were teenagers when they first meet so they weren't really mature. Clary was stupid and Jace was an asshole sometimes. But when you read city of glass and the next books( specially city of falling angels and then city of lost souls) you realice that they've grown so much specially as a couple. Clary trust Jace and she cares deeply about him and Jace started to express his feelings about her and he told her everything. They have a really great relationship they trust and they respect each other and they believe in the other. Obvioulsy there will be scenes where they will only be kissing and talking about how beautiful the other is but I think that's normal. I remember that someone said that what Jace and Clary had in the books was great( I don't remember if it was Magnus or who) but I do really believe they love each other. But I also think they started to fell in love in city of glass. At first it was lust only
I think that they have true love, i mean they pactically need eachother to live. Neither Clary or Jace would ever do what they did for eachother just for something like sex, or a fondness. They respect eachother and want whats best for eachother. They understand eachother, thats love. Jace could never not love Clary even when he was possesed, not even Sebastian could change that. Clary risked her life for him as much as she did for Simon. Also Jace did once say that he loved how brave, strong and caring she was in City of Glass. She showed him ho to live and made his life worht living. Jace makes Clary feel safe and loved. They can lean on each other for support and thats love. I would never go on a suicide mission to save someone i liked. They fought for eachother and their love. i can see how it was really lust for Clary in the beginning and we didn't see Jace POV or of how he felt for Clary till later. But as time went on she fell in love in with him. They have true love. which is also why i say even though it was first love it was also true love. They fit like puzzle peices meant to be together. i made my case.
Also Jace was very paitent with Clary and always made sure Clary was okay. Jace was obviously not a virgin as he said in City of Lost Souls that he had done it before he still made sure Clary was okay with everything he was doing. he wanted his first time with Clary to be memorable because he cared about her and this was the first time it meant something to him, Clary was different to Jace. when the finally had sex in CoHF he made sure she was okay. the fact is they are one they feel comfortable around eachother and they need eachother.

They even thought they were siblings at some point and they still wanted to be together! And what about CoG she could have asked for anything in the world and she brought back Jace, she wouldn't have done it if she merely thought he was hot. Plus it is said in LM that they've been together for 5 YEARS they would have been bored of each other all this time together if they weren't so in love.
If they actually did, then maybe Clary would've discussed why she was so in love with Jace. But, no. All we hear is about his golden hair, golden eyes and golden skin. If love means looks, then yeah. They were deeply in love with each other
