Of course Meyer's had to get her little abstinence message in there around page 70 which caused much eye rolling, and I almost boycotted the experiment. Yet after a coffee I continued reading and with just a few chapters to got I have to say it entertained me for a few days at least.

It's going to be a trilogy apparently.

So i dont want to read the book :\"
The book is WAY better than the movie :) You schould read it. I thought that the movie was disappointing compared to the book :) they left out too much. But I really think you schould read it :)

THANK U FOR SAYING THAT
I MAY CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT IT AND READ IT :)

I will say I am not alien books...and this book did not change my mind. I couldn't read more first couple of pages. It just not catch me at all. So I share you opinion
maybe later i would give a go again. but for now the book was no no for me.
As for the movie. It was good. Now that i think about it may be its just one of those books that make a better movie...for as you said its starts out slow, and that was quite clear in the movie.

I kept looking at the Wanderer-Wanda/Melanie personalities through an actor's eye (as a former theater major in college). I sometimes do this with truly unique, developed characters. What a fascinating and amazing role they would be (and I've, unfortunately, heard the movie is HORRIBLE). To take a human host, learn a new culture, and fight with the inner voice of the person whose body you now inhabit, constantly fighting, trying to be your own personality, the frustration of someone else throwing their memories at you, eventually an unlikely friendship... WOW! Two different ways of thinking, moving, reacting… Strong emotions are new to Wanderer as well, so her discovery of them is also an intriguing nuance. How can you figure out what emotion it is you are feeling when you’ve never had such experiences before? How can it be love when it hurts so much?
Meyer somehow gets to the heart and morality to the situation without making the reader feel uncomfortable. There's nothing political or intense "change the world" agendas thrown at you. It’s about being human. At first you root for Melanie, but then you find yourself siding with Wanda too. Two opposite personalities trapped together not of their own doing with polar opposite ways of living.
-“It's not the face, but the expressions on it. It's not the voice, but what you say. It's not how you look in that body, but the thing you do with it. You are beautiful.” - Ian

Are the other books out yet? I read this several years ago and had no idea it was part of a trilogy.

No, I don't think she has released the other two books.

Just felt like Twilight but with weird little aliens instead of 'vampires'.
I managed to finish it, but I didn't really enjoy it, personally.

Now let me tell you, after chapter 9, this book takes off!!!!! I finished the book in probably less than 24 hours!!! It was a great book. Great Story. It was different. Just all-round great read. This is a book I will read again.

It is an incredibly slow book, and could have been condensed without removing any major events or character building. The concept of the 'souls' entering a body reminds me of the YA series 'Animorphs' especially when the souls are referred to as bugs (yerks, in the Animorphs series). But I really like what Meyer did with this concept. There are so many things to look at: the ethics of the soul (which could relate to the many beliefs we have of what a soul is, and who has one), alien races, colonialism (is our way of life better than another's?), and so much more. To some extent, I think the length of the book was needed in order to show all of the depth potential. However, it wasn't necessary to go into the detail she did. I also wish that it would have ended with Wanda going to sleep. I thought it was a perfect ending to that story. Now knowing that there's to be more books, it makes sense that more about the humans was explained at the end, but I'm one of those people who doesn't need a book to have a happy ending to be a good ending.

It was an interesting concept and , mostly, a very good execution. My problem was that I did not like Wanda most of the book. There were some brilliant moments, especially in the end, when she comes up with a plan to save the souls and her horror at discovering, that they were slaughtering baby souls. I hated her cowering and being beaten up every couple of pages...

I felt the same. I liked the book too, but it took me a long time before I started to care about Wanda (I was more interested in Melanie and Jeb's group). I also thought it was odd that (view spoiler)

I don't think it was so much that (view spoiler)

We all have different methods, but pg 150 is not the best rule. You could have a book that's only 200 pages long, or you have a book like this which is 600 pages long. In that case, 150 pages is not nearly enough to get the feel of the book. Definitely keep going with it. The writing isn't incredible, but the depth of the story is. It's not just a book about aliens, or a love story. There's so much more to it.
