Rose I just loved this book!!
I never wanted it to end...but it did...and now Volume Three is expected to be published in 2014....I can't wait that long...
So I wanted suggestions on similar books to keep me occupied until then.
Thanks for your help!!
xx

Kimberly I don't know if I would say it's similar, but I read Evenfall (In the Company of Shadows) after reading the Captive Prince series, and I thought it was equally addicting.

Rose Thanks a lot... I'll look it up!

Anna Well, Prince Laurent reminds me a lot of the character Eugenides as he is portrayed in The King of Attolia, by Megan Whalen Turner. It's not M/M, but there is a lot of political maneuvering and Eugenides is manipulative, sly, and brilliant much like Laurent is. The series starts with The Thief, which is also great and keeps you guessing. My favourite is still the King of Attolia however. Please give the series a try!

***IMPORTANT: do NOT read the plot summary of the King of Attolia before you read The Thief, as it will spoil something very crucial to the plot!

Anastasia I was recced Gemma Files, A book of Tongues, when I asked about similar books.

Prisoner by Megan Derr is similar.
Here is the blurb:
A man whom all men fear...

General Dieter von Adolwulf has led the Scarlet Army of Kria to victory for the past decade, holding the infamous field known as the Regenbogen against Kria's hated enemies—the deceptive Illussor and the ruthless Salharans. War has waged between the three nations for longer than anyone can remember, but no one has held the Regenbogen as well as the notorious Wolf of Kria and his fearsome army.

A man who fears nothing...

Returning home at the end of the year, the Scarlet Army is attacked in the dead of night by a single man who manages to kill hundreds before he is finally captured. A Salharan soldier with no name, no purpose but to kill, he refuses to bend to the Wolf who takes him prisoner and forces upon him a despicable Krian name.

A man with nothing to lose...

When the rest of his army is slaughtered by Illussor soldiers desperately seeking his prisoner, Dieter determines to hold fast—both for answers and in revenge for the men he lost. But answers and revenge are hard to come by when surrounded by secrets and treachery, and the man least likely to kill him is the prisoner who most wants him dead.

Rose Thank you Anastasia!!! I already started reading it and so far so good!!!

Alice I did the same thing as Kimberly and read the ICoS series right after Captive Prince and found it equally engrossing as CP, though very different concept. Would highly recommend and it is free online.

If you want to keep with the "Intelligent, but strong willed slave" theme, I would recommend In Allegiance by Kate Islay. It is not as, I guess intense (for lack of a better word) as CP, but has a lot of the same elements. Conquered Prince made slave to Politically strong Captain in opposing army, who may not be quite what is expected. The MC's are on equal footing intellectually and it makes for a nice power exchange. This book is also free online.

If it is the enemies to lovers theme that you enjoyed in CP, there is an Enemies to Lovers list in the M/M Romance Group page and I have quite a few rated / reviewed on my profile page as well if you wanted to scroll through, the best of which I would recommend other than Captive Prince would be Special Forces: Soldiers by Voinov (that one is emotionally heavy, so be prepared)it is also free online and on the lighter side, A Thread of Deepest Black by Finn Marlowe.

If you liked the intelligence and mind play of Damen and Laurent, and how they were equals, I would recommend The Administration series by Manna Francis. It is probably my favorite m/m romance. It is also free online.

Good luck finding something to help pass the time while we wait for CP III. I was in the same boat as you right after I finished I & II, it was like I couldn't stop thinking about Damen and Laurent. Luckily I found other books as engaging, though I am still looking forward to Pacat's next volume in the series.

This is the best thread ever!!
Because I am dying here...DYING.
I want to be Damen so I can be with Laurent.
I want to be Laurent so I can be with Damen.

I am in love with both men! Maybe I can be me and be with both of them! LOL

I also need to see this as a series on TV- I NEED to see that sword flying through the air and Laurent's reaction to it.

Rose Is there going to be a tv series ???? I know who me Laurent would be....

Alice Hi Rose and everyone else, we have a "who is your Laurent?" Thread going at the goodreads group Captivated, if anyone is interested in joining.

Jerry If you loved the intricacies of the plot and the vivid descriptions of the places, food and customs, look up The Game of Kings. I believe Ms. Pacat likes Dorothy Dunnett a lot. The series is long, highly complex, you need a dictionary but oh so rewarding in the richness of the story and fantastic scenes she creates. It is no MM, but there are some homoerotic scenes in a few of the books, especially the one set in Russia.

Micah I strongly recommend this book Soul Storm The Connecting Flame (The Harp & Sword Chronicles, #1) by Myristica

It has a lot of the same elements as Captive Prince does in a way(Political manipulations, War, etc etc)with a beautiful romance.

It is not a "Slave theme" by any means but I absolutely love the series. It is a good read for anyone looking for something similar.

Blue.lady I recommend 'dark tales of randamor the recluse' by andrew ashling. I really loved CP and I was searching for the next couple of months for something equally amazing. And in here I found it. especially the main character who also thinks about everything in advance.
the romance is an important part of the plot, but it's more on a physiological level. and of course war, plots, schemes among the royal court also fascinate me. I wish you good reading ;)

Micah I am writing a book inspired by captive prince :)

Ollie Counterpoint (Song of the Fallen) by Rachel Haimowitz.

Two elfs, a brother and a sister are captured in human lands and offered to the prince as slaves. The male one is pretty untameable but he'll do whatever it's necessary for the prince to keep his sister safe.

Rsr Wow! I love this discussion!

I've already read the Song of the Fallen and I also like it. And thanks to this thread I've discovered Guarded and I've enjoyed it quite a lot. So thank you Sofia!
I've written down all your suggestions ;)

But, also I liked these books, non of them beat Captive Prince.

Essa it strongly reminds me of the persian boy by mary renault but not much of the machinations and the plot twist

Raraland This has already been mentioned but I would like to second the recommendation of the 'The Thief' series by Megan Whaler Turner. If you want political strategies hidden along action with a touch of romance these books are where to go. If anyone has further recommendations for books with a similarly intelligent and somewhat biting MC please send them my way. Unfortunately I am not yet ready to embark on the adventure that The Lymond Chronicles is sure to bring, however much I trust C.S. Pacat's judgment.

To me Captive Prince is a lot more than a MM romance, but if you want that specifically in a meaty plot I would recommend The Administration or The Shadow of the Templar series.

Pooja i recommend the trilogy fireheart by gloria h giroux. it has the captor prisoner theme, enemy to lover, political intrigue and the 2 sequels are great.

message 22: by Lynxie (last edited Dec 01, 2015 01:27PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lynxie Stasis by Kim Fielding and the two other books in the series are similar m/m, but way less political and more sweet, it still has the slave aspect to it, but not as strongly as CP. I adored Ennek and Miner.

Also check out this list.

Axa3 what I found as captivating as this one is 'Feng Yu Jiu Tian', and trust me, I've read most of the recommended stories posted above. Unfortunately, it's not entirely translated :(

I've read that too! :) i wish there was a professional translator. I often feel like i'm missing nuances in emotion/meaning so i can't fully enjoy it.

Shamsa this book reminded me so much of The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller so you might want to read it.

message 30: by Anna (new)

Anna Kraus I just finished these books yesterday and I'm desperate to find other books that intrigue me that much aswell.
But I can recommend a series that got me obsessed for month and that I read about 5 times and still love it

It's the Riyria Chronicles by Michael J. Sullivan
Its not quite M/M (even tho I feel like they are more than just partners and characters in the book assume it as well)

Hadrian & Royce are thieves and the first book (theft of the swords) is quite similar to Captive Prince.
Really its sooo good, give it a try. It's even on YouTube if you just wanna listen to it for a few minutes before deciding to buy the book

I don't get obsessed easily but this series really deserves it
