Devon quietly watch the people jumping off of the diving rocks. He didn't like it here in Immortal Beach. He would rather be at home with...he frowned when he remembered that Emily was dead. She was more of a mother than his had ever been, and she was gone. He sighed and grabbed a rock on the ground.
Rebel was making her way back up to the top of the rocks after diving in already. She loved the little rush of adrenaline she got when she jumped. She was just happy for once that she was allowed to have fun. The past three years of her life had been horrible. But she had stayed strong, she had needed to for them. her little cousins.
Devon was in his own little world, he was so upset about her death. As silly as it sounded, she was family though. He looked up from his pity party just in time her his eyes to lock with most incredible eyes he had ever seen.
A slight tingle shot down Rebel's spine and she knew someone was staring at her. Jerking her head up she found the source and their eyes locked. Her light colored eyes widened in surprise and she unconsciously crossed her arms in front of her like a defensive shield. You could say Rebel had a few trust issues.
Devon frowned when she crossed her arms, it was like she was afraid of him. That thought made him sick. He doubted talking to her would help anything. He sighed a glanced down at his feet, wondering what he should do.
Forcing herself to uncross her arms, Rebel fisted her hands at her sides. Luck would have it her stuff was rigjt next to where he was sitting. Taking a deep breath she calmly walked over and picked up her towel. her eyes drifted over to him every now and then, it was Like she couldn't look away.
Devon glanced at her from the corner of his green eyes. He noticed how beautiful she was and he kicked himself for not being able to say hello. If he was his brother Jason, he would have no problem talking to her. Devon on the other hand was more reserved. He opened his mouth to say something, then shut it.
"They can be, sirens are dangerous and beautiful creatures, known for killing foolish men." Devon was sort of a brainiac, he knew a lot about everything.
"You could say that..." Devon cutely smirked right back, his IQ was 147. With an IQ score like that, he was considered a genius. He hated when people treated him differently because of it.
"So Are you going to jump or are you just going to sit here?" Rebel asked him as she toweled dried her dark hair.
"Haven't decided yet, why do you ask?" Devin arched a brow at her, for someone who seemed sky at first she was actually a spitfire.
For the last three years, Rebel had been living in Fear. She was ready to get back out in the world. she was shocked how long she had actually talked to this guy next to her. she shrugged, "Call it curiosity."
Devon frowned when he seen a dark look cross her face, "I'm the play it safe kinda person. Risks...aren't my strong suit."
"Life is boring if you don't take risks." Rebel pointed out as she put her towel back down, "You wouldn't get anywhere if you didn't take risks." She continued, "plus, this is just fun." She gestured at the people jumping.
"Fun? It's also dangerous. So many things could go wrong..." Devon trailed of, the sun shined behind it and he noticed how incredibly beautiful she was.
"Well my who life has been wrong, so I'm not going to stop now." Rebel said before running to the edge of the cliff and doing a backflip into the water.
Devon stared after her in amazement. She was a spitfire...he didn't even know her name yet. Spitfire, he mused...that was a good nickname for her.
"Ehh...I'm not to sure Spitfire. I kinda like sitting here all safe and what not. Plummeting to my death, staying dry and alive." Devon smiled as he balanced the two options with his hands like a fake scale.
((I posted at the diner instead of the beach, sorry))"Well, I'm glad you like it." Devon smiled up at her.
"Well my name is Devon...most people call me Dev." he told his mystery girl. Actually a lot of people called him brainiac but he hated that nickname.
"Well it's nice to meet you Devon," Rebel smiled kindly at him. "My real name is Rebel, but I guess you can call me spitfire."
"Rebel? I guess Spitfire really does fit you!" Devon smiled back at her. He realized that this was the happiest he'd been since Emily died.
"Fate? You believe in such a thing?" Devon smiled at her. He believed in fate but many that he knew didn't.
"No, not really, I just thought it was an appropriate thing to say right then." She pulled a diet coke bottle out of her bag and took a sip of it.
"Hmm...that's too bad, I found it refreshing. I believe in fate...life's too dull if you don't." Devon gave her a small smile.
"Well I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully that will change for you in the future." Devon smiled warmly at her. He hated to hear that, she seemed hardened it was a shame.
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault. There's just stupid people in the world that make the wrong choices." Rebels thought back to her uncle and all the beatings she had received trying to protect her cousins who would of gotten them if Rebel hadn't gotten between them and her Uncle.
Devon saw a dark look past over her face, it made him feel...protective? Protective? He didn't even know his girl yet he wanted to protect her...from her thoughts? What was wrong with him?
"So, are you sure you're not going to jump? I'll jump with you if you're too scared." Rebel teased, changing the subject
"Oh yeah? You think I'm scared?" Devon laughed, she really was a spitfire. He was impressed, "Okay, I'll jump with you, since you begged me to and all." Devon teased her right back.
Devon smiled up at her, he had a crazy idea, "Tell you what spitfire. I'll jump of with you, if you agree to be my date to the yacht party tonight? It's hosted by the Woods siblings, I haven't met them yet but it's an open party. Might as well go, right?"
Rebel bristled at the idea of going on a date with someone. If he wanted to go to a party with her that probably meant that he wanted to touch her also. Just the idea of him making contact with her make her insides start to panic. "Uh...." Was all she could get out.
"No strings attached, I'm sure my brother has a date...and I would enjoy bringing a date too. You could ditch me when we got there though...if you wanted," Devon put his hands out as if to say "I'm not going to hurt you" when he noticed her panicked face.
"Hmm, I wouldn't be too sure about that. I'm pretty good with issues. But how about we just go as friends? Honestly, I'd rather not go alone." Devon smile reassuringly at her.
"Ok Fine." Rebel ran nervous hand through her dark hair and her crystal colored eyes looked at him skeptically.
Devon smiled in triumph, he would make sure she had a good time. Rebel looked like she needed to have some fun. Devon would make sure no one bothered her though. They were going as friends, and friends looked after each other. "I'm glad you said yes...now I supposed we should jump?"
"Yes we do." Rebel said walking towards the edge of the cliff and looked over. It was about a 30 foot drop. Not that bad.
