Kate | 4 comments I watched the French film Rust and Bones last night. I'm still trying to sort out my feelings about the lead male character. The actor did a fine job, but I can't decide if I liked the character. He's a simple and straightforward guy, which may make it easy for him to accept the heroine exactly as she is (no spoil alert), but there are also times I want to yell at him (from a safe distance).

Phillip | 10980 comments it's not uncommon for a film or a novel to present a character who has complex morality/behavior, etc. it's not a perfect world we live and people, accordingly, are not perfect. we grow up with story book characters and prince charmings and princesses with long flowing hair that turns to gold, but in truth, life isn't that way. i'm glad for films who present complicated characters, so i liked RUST AND BONE - whether i liked the main character without reservation or not.

Kate | 4 comments Agreed. I had the same conversation with my son. I liked that the movie made me consider both the purity of acceptance and the unbridled power of brutality that his simplicity gave him.
