Sara Christenson | 9 comments When I click on the Barnes and Noble purchase link, it can't find my book. (It's definitely in the BN.com library when you search for "Malibu Nanny.") Similar thing happens with Amazon.com. The message says "your search did not match any products in books." But then it shows up under that in "All product categories." What's going on?

Sara Christenson | 9 comments Malibu Nanny: The True Adventures of the Kardashian Nanny - Sneak Peak Edition 7/12 Also, can BN.com link be added for the earlier version of my book (orange cover)? Amazon link works fine - it takes me to the current book.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments This is because there are currently only two editions in the database: the one with ISBN 9780989033107 and the "sneak peek" with no ISBN. It looks like there are at least three more editions to add: a paperback edition with a new ISBN, a Kindle edition with an ASIN, and an ebook with a 294- id from B&N.

I've added the Kindle and paperback editions using your website and your co-author's website, but neither of you are listing the B&N id we need to create the third edition. Can you provide it here? This is the 13-digit number beginning 294- which B&N uses to identify their ebook edition of your book.

Since Pam Behan is listed as the first author, she'll have to be the one to select a default edition for this book if you don't want to leave it as it is currently.

Sara Christenson | 9 comments Okay, here's the BN number: BN ID: 2940016601755

How does Pam select the NEW pink version as the default edition?

message 5: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Okay, all set! Sorry for the legal hoops.

The instructions for setting a default edition are here:
http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31...

message 6: by Pam (new) - added it

Pam Behan (nannypambehan) | 2 comments Okay we did that, but now all the reviews from the first edition have been added to the current edition, which isn't appropriate, because they are two completely different books. Also, the profiles that were added for the nook and paperback versions and one of the ebook versions have the wrong subtitle it specifically needs to read "adventures of the former kardashian nanny.". No "the" at beginning and add "former."

message 7: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I've corrected the subtitles on the new editions.

It's standard on GR for all editions of a book to be combined and to share reviews, even if some changes have been made between versions. If you'd like to see reviews specific to a particular edition of a book you can use the filter options (select "filter" and then "editions: this edition").

Sara Christenson | 9 comments Got it. Thanks for making changes. One last thing. On the old version which comes up first in Google searches,
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...
the Amazon purchase link is now linking to the current book, but the Barnes and Noble is not. Could you please link this old version to Barnes and Noble too? BN ID: 2940016601755
Thanks!!

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Sara wrote: "Could you please link this old version to Barnes and Noble too? BN ID: 2940016601755"

That's the id which the new edition is using. Did they have the same id?

message 10: by Sara (new) - added it

Sara Christenson | 9 comments The older version was never sold online. Not available at all now. So should link to new book. Thx!

message 11: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Sara, the buy links for each edition should link to sales of that particular edition, since by preference they use the edition's id number. When an edition has no id number they may fall back on searching by title (as the Amazon link does) or they may simply not be available (as with the B&N link). For example, if you click on the Amazon link from the Kindle edition you should be taken directly to the option to purchase a Kindle edition from Amazon, and if you click on the Amazon link from the paperback edition you should be taken directly to the option to purchase the paperback edition from Amazon. If an edition is no longer for sale, the buy links are no longer relevant (or, for print editions, are only useful in the case of used bookseller links). In either case, the id listed for an edition should be the id originally assigned to that edition when it was published. If the id is reused between editions, one edition will have to go without, since the id has to be unique.

Hayson Manning | 5 comments I was hoping I could get the link from my book to Amazon fixed. Wife in Name Only. ISBN: 1622667050

Correct link

Many thanks,

Hayson Manning | 5 comments H Paula,
Sorry to be a pain. I can get to Amazon on the link you've provided but if I load a new Goodreads page and click on Online Stores and Amazon I get:

We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site

Am I doing doing something wrong?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments What do you mean when you say " load a new goodreads page and click on oneline stores"?

Are you doing it from the book page or somewhere else

Can you link to the book page you are using

The links to Amazon.co.uk and com work fine for me

Edit: Are you using this book page

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

ISBN 1622667050 (ISBN13: 9781622667055) - ebook?

if so the link to amazon does not work from that page as amazon does not carry that edition

message 16: by Hayson (new)

Hayson Manning | 5 comments Sorry, Paula. Back again. I asked a friend if she could go to Goodreads and click on the Amazon buy link and she got the same error message page I get which is:

amazon.com
Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.

Go to Amazon.com's Home Page

I really appreciate your help. I'm starting an ad campaign in a couple of days and am hoping I can get the link fixed.

Warm wishes.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Hayson,

There are two editions of your book on Goodreads.

The first is an ebook edition with the ISBN 1622667050 (ISBN13: 9781622667055) and is here.

The second is a Kindle Edition of the book with the ASIN B00C2RXWQS and is here, this is the edition that Paula added for you earlier in this thread.

The "Get a copy" links are specific to the page you are currently on. If you are on the ebook edition's page, they will search for the ISBN 9781622667055, if you are on the Kindle Edition's page it will search for the ASIN B00C2RXWQS.

Because Amazon uses their own ASIN identifiers the eBook ISBN is not found on Amazon's page, which is why you are getting the error. If you go to the edition page for the Kindle Edition it will properly direct you to the book on Amazon.

This is the way these buttons work and there is nothing we can do to fix this.

Thanks for clearing that up. I understand now. Thanks so much for your help. Much appreciated.

Warm wishes,

Sara Christenson | 9 comments Hi, I just checked my book profile again, and the main profile: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17... is not connecting to BN.com. (BN ID: 2940016601755) I know you set up several different editions. One for paperback, one for kindle and one for nook. So is there any one that the main profile can link to both Amazon and BN? Or when you make one edition the main edition does it just default to whichever purchase link that edition is set up for? Seems like there should be some way to have one version connect to all the places where you can purchase it. Thanks!

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Sara wrote: "So is there any one that the main profile can link to both Amazon and BN?"

Unfortunately, this is not possible so long as the site in question is using a site specific identifier for the book.

In this case, the edition with the ASIN from Amazon will connect to Amazon and the edition with the #294 number from B&N will connect to Barnes and Noble.
