Before I will react in "a hysterical way" I want to see what will change on this site.
Amazon.com reviews are often poor especially by those fanatics that do want to sink a book for one reason or another. So they can use some improvement.

Well so far it looks pretty good, I haven't noticed any changes, I think they respec the site very much.
I want an easy way to delete my account and all my history. I do use Amazon.com, but I considered Goodreads a social site that was separate from my reviews and suggestions on the commercial site.
Amazon will use your goodreads data in a whole new way.
Anyone want to build a startup? Maybe nextread or betterreads? We could even host it at amazonaws...

I did pay over a relatively small sum for lifetime's membership of LibraryThing (which provides many of Goodreads features), plus there's no adverts. If I find I'm being targeted much more by Amazon I may well close down my Goodreads membership.
I shall wait and see. I'm understandably nervous but also hopeful that perhaps it will give indie authors more of a chance to be seen. As I said, we'll see.
