I was hoping how to figure out how to do color or at least italic...for responses. But I just don't get how to do this stuff :)

Whenever you "reply" to a post Goodreads shows you how to do the italic thing when it quotes the post you are replying to. Type < + i + > before the text you want to italicized, and < + / + > after the text you want italicized. Ignore the plus signs, I just typed those in to let Goodreads know I didn't what the text in between those two "codes" italicized.
I hope that's clear, I tried to just type the code without the plus signs but it disappeared. Can someone who knows HTML tell me how to type a code in regular text? I thought if I put the code in quotes it would pick it up but it disappeared the code and left the quotes.

I've started doing the html for italics because I had the same problems that have been mentioned about hitting "reply" and not getting what I wanted to quote in the box. I figured in the long run it was just easier to cut and paste and then enclose the quote in the code.
That "some html is ok" place will also tell you how to turn book titles, authors, and URLs into links, which I think is a very cool feature.

Barry,On another board the moderator went to the board where Goodreads accepts suggestions for the site. She suggested allowing varied fonts and colors. She says the response was "as if I had suggested allowing posts with nude photos."
I guess it's not a priority with Goodreads. I find that my eye is so used to recognizing people by color and font that it's harder to recognize who is posting over here. AOL had taken away my access to different fonts and colors years ago, but I'm not used to others not having differentiation. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.

I used the HTML tips that are posted to the right of the comment box on the right...Good luck!

Congrats, Susie! You did it! Assuming you were trying to do bold italics, that is, LOL.
Isn't it interesting, though, that when I copied, it lost it. I guess you can't do nested codes.
