Ankit Agrawal All right then, I have heard a lot about Wilbur Smith and the more I hear the more desperate I am to read him. Finally after a long time I have decide to read him but soon as I make this decision I am quite perplexed as to the order of his books.

I want to read his Courtney Series, but I can't understand in what order I should read his books. In order in which they were written or in order the Family Saga is?

Can anybody help

David Hensley Look at his web site, they are in order there. I have ready everything he has written except his latest. Good stuff.

dh

I know the correct in which he has written the series and the correct order according to the family saga as well.

My question is how should I read them. Should I start with
Birds of Prey which is the first part of the family saga in the Courtney Series or should I start with
When the Lion Feeds which was actually written first in the same series.

And how should I continue the series?

Linda I first picked up a Wilbur Smith book in an airport overseas (When the Lion Feeds) and have been hooked ever since. I am happy to say I still have more Wilbur Smith on my to read list. He is the best.

So you think I should start it from When The Lion Feeds as well...?

Linda Sure. I also agree that you should go to his website and make a list of the Coutney series and then you can read the rest in order. But if you have never read any start with When a Lion Feeds and it will give you a great taste of his writing!

Linda From Wilbur Smith himself:
"People often ask in which order they should read my novels. I'd suggest in the order in which they were written, given in the table below, even if that is not in chronological order – the later Courtney novels are set in a time before the earlier ones I wrote. (And his first was When the Lion Feeds)"
Hope it helps.

M.K. Turner I too love Wilbur Smith - the Courtney series was just great. When a Sparrow Falls was my first, my favourite & got me hooked. You are so lucky, you can now start at the beginning and read through the whole series. Enjoy

This is a good question. I understand that when The Lion Feeds was one of his first books that he wrote. I personally read the series in much the in which they had been written. I don't think it detracted, however now that the prequels' have all been done, I think that works equally well. I think When the Lion Feeds ropes the reader in well more than if you started with prequels'. Cheers Paul

MW Kennard The Sunbird is a good one-off novel by Wilbur. River God is the first of the Taita series, and beautiful from the beginning. What I love most is that you really love his characters, and you miss them when they are gone.

Yes, I agree. It's like you get know and become comfortably familiar with his characters. Cheers. Paul.

Stephanie Gibbons I've read his books since I was growing up in Africa as a teenager and to this day, The Sunbird is still my favorite. Not related to a series, but powerful.

Linda How did I miss The Sunbird?? I am looking forward to the read.Thank you.

Deon Bester start with "when the lion feeds" in the series, on the first few pages, the order to read them is listed... I recommend to start with the first one, the Courtneys come back later in the series...btw that series was the best yet, a bit disappointed with the Egyptian series, he lost me with all those hectic names etc. Best series was the African books... also the random once of books, Eagle in the sky (under correction here...was very good!
