Poll is now Open for the April/May Group Read

http://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/19...

Nominations will be open until April 4 voting until April 9.

Please read rules below

General rules for Group Reads

1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.

2) One (1) nomination only per person. Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.

3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.

4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year.
http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. the last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.

Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader's life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Paul Perry (pezski) | 233 comments Let me get in early and nominate Case Histories, the first of Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series, filmed by the BBC a couple of years ago. I've been a fan of Atkinson's other work - Behind the Scenes at the Museum, etc - for years, and have meant to get around to reading this for some time. I've heard only good things about it.

message 3: by Bill (new)

Bill I nominate The Merchant's House: The First Wesley Peterson Murder Mystery by Kate Ellis. This is the first book of the Wesley Peterson mystery series. I've had it for awhile and have been meaning to get around to reading it. This is the synopsis.
"DS Wesley Peterson, newly arrived at the West Country port of Tradmouth, has his hands full when a child goes missing and a young woman is brutally murdered on a lonely cliff path. This his old friend, archaelogist Neil Watson unearths skeletons of a strangled woman and a newborn baby. Wesley begins to suspect the deaths might be linked even though they took place centuries apart."

message 4: by Matt (new)

Matt | 16 comments I'm reading Defending Jacob by William Landay right now and I can't put it down. The author is a former district attorney who really knows the process of a murder and trial. It's one of those books that you want to take a sick day at work so you can stay home to read it. I'm really enjoying it, but if it does become a book read of the month, I would not be able to moderate the discussion as I am not on here nearly enough.

message 5: by Matt (new)

Matt | 16 comments It doesn't look like the image of the book that I nominated in my previous post shows up on my Droid, so I'm adding the link here: Defending Jacob by William Landay

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll go with Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell. It's the first one.

message 7: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 187 comments I like the thought of Defending Jacob. Read about it in another group I'm in and would love the excuse to buy it

Hi Ronhummer and Sarah,

Faceless Killers was already a group read for us.
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Would you like to nominate something else by Henning Mankell? We try not to repeat an author for at least one year but Faceless Killers was a group read in 2009.

By the way, the group read discussions never close so you can read, enjoy, and comment on any of our past group reads - as well as the current ones.

Following the defeat at Dunkirk, the fascists have been in government for more than a decade, Churchill leads the Resistance, Jews are being deported and David Fitzgerald is a civil servant who has agreed to spy for – or against – his country"

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments I read Dominion earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

But I read an English copy (don't know where my father got one; I got it for Christmas); is it in print in the U.S. yet?

message 20: by Ann (new)

Ann | 10 comments I nominate Nocturne, Opus 1: Sea Foam by Norene Moskalski, PhD. It's an international, psychological/medical eco-thriller about a researcher's genetic modification of a normally passive seashore bacteria. It's plausible and scary, but this fact-based thriller explains what to do if a modified bacteria ever escapes the lab. A great read!

Dominion doesn't appear in my iBooks store. It sounds like a good book, so I hope we get it in the US.

ipsit (ipsit_13) The Ghosts of Belfast The Ghosts of Belfast (Jack Lennon Investigations #1) by Stuart Neville by Stuart Neville.

“The best first novel I’ve read in years...It’s a flat-out terror trip.”—James Ellroy

It's a hard novel about a hard man who just wants the voices in his head to stop screaming at him. I recommend it unless this sort of book is just totally not your cup of tea.

message 41: by Val (new)

Val (valz) | 1542 comments I'd like to nominate The Round House The Round House by Louise Erdrich by Louise Erdrich. It is a a cross genre book but the main thrust is a highly tense mystery/thriller. It won the National Book Award for 2012 and is one of the best written books I've read in a long time. A literary thriller. Don't let that throw you because the story is captivating and interspersed with genuine humor.
