Let me get in early and nominate Case Histories, the first of Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series, filmed by the BBC a couple of years ago. I've been a fan of Atkinson's other work - Behind the Scenes at the Museum, etc - for years, and have meant to get around to reading this for some time. I've heard only good things about it.

I nominate The Merchant's House: The First Wesley Peterson Murder Mystery by Kate Ellis. This is the first book of the Wesley Peterson mystery series. I've had it for awhile and have been meaning to get around to reading it. This is the synopsis.
I nominate The Merchant's House: The First Wesley Peterson Murder Mystery by Kate Ellis. This is the first book of the Wesley Peterson mystery series. I've had it for awhile and have been meaning to get around to reading it. This is the synopsis. "DS Wesley Peterson, newly arrived at the West Country port of Tradmouth, has his hands full when a child goes missing and a young woman is brutally murdered on a lonely cliff path. This his old friend, archaelogist Neil Watson unearths skeletons of a strangled woman and a newborn baby. Wesley begins to suspect the deaths might be linked even though they took place centuries apart."
 I'm reading
      I'm reading
right now and I can't put it down. The author is a former district attorney who really knows the process of a murder and trial. It's one of those books that you want to take a sick day at work so you can stay home to read it. I'm really enjoying it, but if it does become a book read of the month, I would not be able to moderate the discussion as I am not on here nearly enough.

It doesn't look like the image of the book that I nominated in my previous post shows up on my Droid, so I'm adding the link here: Defending Jacob by William Landay

I'll go with Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell. It's the first one.

I like the thought of Defending Jacob. Read about it in another group I'm in and would love the excuse to buy it

      Hi Ronhummer and Sarah,
Faceless Killers was already a group read for us.
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...
Would you like to nominate something else by Henning Mankell? We try not to repeat an author for at least one year but Faceless Killers was a group read in 2009.
By the way, the group read discussions never close so you can read, enjoy, and comment on any of our past group reads - as well as the current ones.

My nomination goes to Sandstorm by James Rollins. (This is the first book in the Sigma Force Series - a good place to start)

Hi Dipanjan, We just read a book by James Rollins last month. We try not to repeat an author for at least a year. Would you like to nominate another book?

Sorry about that. How about Red Wolf by Liza Marklund.

I would like to nominate Florida Roadkill by Tim Dorsey. It's the first of his Serge Storm series and his writing style is fun and entertaining.

Dominion by C.J. Sansom - An alternate view of what might have happened after WW II.
Dominion by C.J. Sansom - An alternate view of what might have happened after WW II. "....set in a post-war Britain dominated by Nazi ideology. Following the defeat at Dunkirk, the fascists have been in government for more than a decade, Churchill leads the Resistance, Jews are being deported and David Fitzgerald is a civil servant who has agreed to spy for – or against – his country"
I read Dominion earlier this year and really enjoyed it.
I read Dominion earlier this year and really enjoyed it.But I read an English copy (don't know where my father got one; I got it for Christmas); is it in print in the U.S. yet?
I nominate Nocturne, Opus 1: Sea Foam by Norene Moskalski, PhD. It's an international, psychological/medical eco-thriller about a researcher's genetic modification of a normally passive seashore bacteria. It's plausible and scary, but this fact-based thriller explains what to do if a modified bacteria ever escapes the lab. A great read!

I can't find where to post this comment, so I'm doing it here, Is there any way the Moderator can get rid of topics that haven't been commented on in at least 12 months (I have over 2000 unread topics to go through to see the ones I want to see)?

I'd love to read Conrad's The Secret Agent, or The Maltese Falcon by Dashiel Hammett. Great to see some classics in this list!

Dominion doesn't appear in my iBooks store. It sounds like a good book, so I hope we get it in the US.
 The Ghosts of Belfast
      The Ghosts of Belfast
   by Stuart Neville.
by Stuart Neville.“The best first novel I’ve read in years...It’s a flat-out terror trip.”—James Ellroy
It's a hard novel about a hard man who just wants the voices in his head to stop screaming at him. I recommend it unless this sort of book is just totally not your cup of tea.

I've been picking up the others in the series (Kindle daily deals, etc.), so it would be great to have an excuse to buy this one too.
I would like to nominate Time Killer by Todd Thiede. Such a good read, kept me engaged the whole time, very hard to put down. Loved the twist. I really recommend this book! http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

I really enjoyed "Defending Jacob" as well. I'd love to discuss this book more...very interested in seeing what others thought about certain things!

I second The Ghosts of Belfast.
The link to the authors read in the last year isn't working, so if you've read this author, please disregard this suggestion. I'd like to suggest The Cold Dish by Craig Johnson.

by Louise Erdrich. It is a a cross genre book but the main thrust is a highly tense mystery/thriller. It won the National Book Award for 2012 and is one of the best written books I've read in a long time. A literary thriller. Don't let that throw you because the story is captivating and interspersed with genuine humor.

I very sorry but I will have disallow the nomination of "The Only Witness" as a group read.
We do not accept nominations for group reads from publicists, publishers, marketing and reviewing services, agents, or authors.

The Only Witness by Pamela Beason gets my nomination. Not only does she grip the reader with the on-going mystery, her characterization keeps the reader deeply involved in the urgency to solve the crime. The Only Witness http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

Nominations will be open until April 4 voting until April 9.
Please read rules below
General rules for Group Reads
1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.
2) One (1) nomination only per person. Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.
3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.
4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year.
http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...
5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).
Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. the last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.
Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader's life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.
