It was, my parents offered to buy me a meal or a takeaway this evening to make up for this morning's disappointment and so I took my kindle along, I was so engrossed I didn't hear the manager ask if it was a good book, he had to repeat himself!! :)
That's definitely a sign of a good book Claire! And a meal to boot ~ not a bad way to end a not too great day :-). I'm glad it got better as the day progressed.
Awww Claire. Sorry about the house. My day has been pretty good. I didn't sleep well last night so I'm exhausted right now.
My Mum's been telling me it wasn't meant to be and everything happens for a reason. I'm shattered too so I'm off to bed with a book I think (if I get as far as the book!)
Thank you Cathie :) That's lovely :)Thank you Kim.
Today should be good, I don't have too much to do in the lab so I can just pace myself and work round other people :)
Audible finally sorted out the rights problem that kept me from buying the Night Circus to listen to (it's one of my favourite books). Can't wait to get it loaded on my iPod so I can start listening :)
Morning!!! How is everyone? Sun's returned again here, was really horrible and miserable yesterday!I've finished a couple more books, one of which was to short by 4 pages, whoops!
Hi! I'm going to spend the day at Mallory's school today. Their Junior Master Gardener program is having a fun day for the members and I'm helping out with that cause she's in it. They're going to plant some things and make soap. It should be fun :)The book I'm reading is dragging for me but I'm using it for a challenge and it's my scavenger hunt book so I don't want to have to look for another to fit those things. I hope it picks up soon.
We certainly are if you want to but you don't have to. I just thought we could do with a break from challenges for a week or so after the RaT!! I shall have a think and come up with something starting next week. Is that ok?
I don't understand the Spreadsheet percentages :-(. If I'm reading it right we are in 2nd last place?
Well, first of all how were team goals established and why is it not just the goal of reaching 1350?I obviously have misread the spreadsheet if we are fourth from last; I should not try to Goodreads while actively taking part in a professional webinar, lol
Haha!! What's the webinar on? The team goal is the amount that all the team members goals add up to, they don't all add up to exactly 1350 points, I think it's another way of keeping track.
I just looked at the total with bonus points. There are 3 teams with less than us.

The Webinar is "Enabling, Rescuing, and Controlling: When Treatment Providers Cross the Line" - Sponsored by: Foundations Recovery Network.Goes towards more CE credits in national certification.
I've read a couple of books the last few days but a lot of them don't fit as I've been trying to rapidly clear some of the really short ones I have. Like the 19 page book I had on my kindle which had potential but was completely unsatisfying!I'm having to miss pilates tonight to finish off in the lab but on the plus side, I'm going to a BBQ and the sun's shining :) Amazing!! Only found out by accident about the BBQ on Tuesday when I was asked if I was going!
Also got some good news on the flat front, more viewings next week, if they all get cancelled then I'm definitely jinxed!!! :)
Hope you ladies are all looking forward to the weekend. I'm back off upstairs, might grab a quick cuppa and a bit of a read while my things get sterilised for my work :)
Have fun at the BBQ, Claire. We've got a busy weekend planned. It's graduation for Lauren, my middle daughter tonight and then recognition at church on Sunday for all the area graduates. I'm not sure how much reading I'll get done, but I'll try to sneak some pages in lol
I'm back from a 12 hour shift, it's been an interesting one, think the rain brings out all the odd calls!! I'm in the lab again tomorrow as well but I'll hopefully get something else done too! It's now midnight and I'm off to bed with the last few pages of my book, really want to find out why the murderer did it!!
Hope you're all having a great weekend and the graduation's gone really well Susan :)
If anyone has any ideas for mini challenges, let me know and I'll come up with something for next week.
Well done Kme_17 :) I'm going to update the spreadsheet before bed tonight, haven't done it for a week or so!
It's an amazing book Claire; it addresses so many ethical and moral questions. It's one that really needs to be discussed after you finish reading it because you are left with so many thoughts. If you want to talk about it with someone let me know :-)
Actually, there's something been bugging me a bit that I wanted to get another opinion (or a few) on. I hope you don't mind, it's a bit deep!!Basically, I've been listening to
, a book I've read several times as I love Cussler's work. It's about a religious organisation (The Responsivists) that promotes minimising the future human population, at first through providing family planning, advice, abortion etc and then, as the book progresses, more extreme measures (view spoiler). I was then looking at the news the other day and came across this article about The Quiverfull, a Christian movement where followers have as many children as they can. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22...
I'm not sure about what I think about either of the extremes of this argument (although obviously the Responsivists took it waaayyyy too far), I'm of the opinion that we need a world for children to inherit and overpopulation is a problem but forcing people to limit their children is wrong too. It's just been bugging me a bit thinking about it when I've been listening to the audiobook.
What do you think?["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Spreadsheet updated, let me know if the post above is too heavy going and you want a light hearted thread :)
I believe children should be brought into this world because they are wanted, not because #s dictate it.There are many circumstances where children are unwanted due to many different factors but I don't think people should want a child simply because it fulfills a need to populate.

I think it's wrong to force people to both limit their children and force them to have more children. It's a personal decision and something that needs common sense. If someone thinks they want children and they can provide and care for them they should have them. If not , then they shouldn't ! Nobody has the right to tell people if they can or cannot have children!
Claire , do you remember the Sci-fi book that I didn't like ? In one planet there was overpopulation so people had to get "chips" inside their bodies to prevent from having children and in the other planet there were only 100 people left to they had to change partner every 18 months to increase their chances of getting pregnant!
I agree. I think I've probably never thought about the real extremes of it and probably wouldn't have if I hadn't listened to/read them both at the same time.
I think reading is good in challenging us to think about things in a way we usually don't or wouldn't if something wasn't brought to our attention.
Oooh, that's interesting ShoSho, I think it would be interesting to read a book which almost looks at the two (but one that I might enjoy :) )
Thanks for all the congratulations for Lauren :) we got through it and now I only have two left to get there lol
I'm staying at home today because of a stiff neck! Sick leave has its own benefits, I think I'm going to finish both of my books today;)
Hope you feel better, ShoSho. My back is achy this evening cause I was Ben over the sewing machine today making my grandson some shorts.
Aawww I can see some cute little shorts on a cute little boy:)I'm going to see a new doctor today I hope he's got some new ideas of what to do with my aches and pains!

That book sounds very good though; always great to retreat into a book that makes your heart happy.
