I'm a random reader too , I try to pick out books to read in the coming month but mostly end up reading only one or two of them and go mainly on impulse!

message 252: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm in for the readathon too ! I will keep my goal as 600 for now , subject to revision before 8th may , and I don't have a problem with it being historical!

Update : Just finished Mockingjay!

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments All right Karen. I'll put you on the list.

Oh I do the same with the browsing. I literally can't pass a bookstore w/o buying at least 2 books. I haven't taken any books back..which is probably why I have about 100 books in my physical library left to read. :) It doesn't help when people find out I'm a reader and say.."oooo have you read this; its a great read"...that's like teasing a person on a diet with a chocolate frosted cupcake!!!

Hahaha..he's not as bad as he used to be. They are a little eerie-but I don't jump at creaks in the house when I read him like I did when I was younger...either his books are as scary as they were when I was younger OR I'm too engrossed in the book to worry about who's in the house..HA

message 257: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm too scared to even try stephen king! Lol!
Horror is a genre I stay far far away from!

Though technically I did read a lot of fear street and goosebumps when I was a kid , but that can hardly be called scary!

message 258: by Gemma (new)

Gemma I'm a random reader too, I have about a thousand unread physical books and I keep buying ):
My partner hates carboots because I'll find someone selling books for 10p and snag all the bargains!

message 259: by [deleted user] (new)

I have very few physical books now , had a lot in my childhood ! Right now there is no space in my home , full of study books :p ! So , I mostly have ebooks!

I subscribe to a library because whatever , paperbacks will always have a certain magic to them!

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Karen You're already done with Mockingjay?! That was fast! And? :D

message 261: by joanne (new)

joanne (cabeswaters) I borrow most of my books, the few books I buy are either ebooks or a book which I *had* to read and wasn't in my library.

I do think that the main reason is that there are no book shops in our vicinity... They all got closed down :( Closest one would probably be a half hour away I guess. Unless I want to try a department store.

The other reason I have few unread books at home would be because a lot of books that I don't like, I give to a friend/to charity/back to the bookstore

message 262: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I still by paperbacks but I don't read them. They are in Croatian and for my mom :) Since I read mostly in English now, ebooks are the best choice. We have few bookstores here that have books in English, but they have more-less same books. If you want something else, they order it for you - from Amazon (☺) and you have to wait for 2 months (at least they don't charge you shipment) :) As for library, choices are American Corner and British library. First gets books from before mentioned stores and second is strictly British authors - classics mostly.
So, ebooks for me, please :D

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments OK, I've chosen books for RaT. There is 6 of them and page count is 2703. :) I'll go for 2500 for now. Theme and cover ✔

Would you say this one is blue? One Good Earl Deserves a Lover (The Rules of Scoundrels, #2) by Sarah MacLean

Eh, blue enough I say.

For my historical I will *attempt* to read Les Mis, but I'm not confident with my patience. I bet I can't read whilst reading a bunch of other books on the side.
Will go to the library soon and make some final choices

message 265: by md (last edited Apr 25, 2013 04:56AM) (new)

md | 83 comments I'm not really one for planning what I'm reading unless I've got a series I'm reading in which case 'planning' usually just means reading them in order. That said I do know what 109 of my 300 pages are going to be because I'm going to finish The Auschwitz Violin by Maria Àngels Anglada since it's been hanging around for a while. Just need to pick one with a blue cover now.

I'd call it blue.

message 266: by joanne (new)

joanne (cabeswaters) For my blue, I'll see if I can get the chance to read The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa .
I'll actually try to read the rest of that series, but again it really depends what my library has.

message 267: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Question: Does PNR still count for historical?
For instance, would you say that The Highlander's Touch (Highlander, #3) by Karen Marie Moning is a good option for historical? I just bought in on sale at audible last night, so excited!

Yes, I would say that is a great option. 700 years ago is definitely more than 50.

message 269: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) thanks. It's also kinda of blue-purplish in color. Good to have options

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments So far for the RaT, these are the books I have planned:
World Without End (The Pillars of the Earth, #2) by Ken Follett Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace Did You Miss Me? by Karen Rose The Sign of Four (Sherlock Holmes, #2) by Arthur Conan Doyle Black Coffee (Hercule Poirot #7) by Agatha Christie The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult Perfect Fit (Serendipity, #4) by Carly Phillips

This adds up to 3785 pgs, but my plans don't always work out of course. I think I am going to set my goal at 3500 to start, subject to change by May 8th.

message 272: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Just got Swimsuit from the library book sale for 25p to read as a blue book for the read-a-thon (: It's 495 pages.

I know about moving gifs. Even used few of them. I thought real video, like that song.
Never mind, I'm going to get another pint. :D

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I liked it. It was a great short break from reading. I have two books I want to finish today on my day off.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Dee wrote: "You know you're a book addict when: you talk to someone who is handing out books for World Book Night, go to the website www.worldbooknight.org and find 56 more books to read!!! YAY!!!"

That is so true.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Finished one of my two books for today.

Also, along with updates posted as they come, I have set up Post #5 as a permanent post for Hobbit Games updates.

message 284: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) I need help creating a moving GIF from Spartacus.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I don't know how to do that yet. I just recently figured out how to simply edit a picture on my computer or photobucket and then post it on here. That's how I added the captains avatars to the announcement picture in post #5.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Turtlecollector wrote: "That's how I added the captains avatars to the announcement picture in post #5."

So clever, Turtlecollector! I love it!

**Psst** The pic looks a little stretched. If you only put in the width, the height aspect ratio will default in by itself and it probably won't look that way.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments

Just 350 pgs left in the last 2 books I have to have read in April. I was hoping to finish the last 100 pgs of one of them tonight, but I am already so sleepy I might make an early night of it since I have to work tomorrow.

I should be able to finish all by tomorrow , however, and then I can *whispering* get a head start on books for the Read-a-Thon since only finish date matters;)
