Sorry, went to bed :)
It's Kili
(view spoiler)

Jackson did plan it as 2 movies, but during filming it he changed his mind. He said he got so much good material that he felt sorry to drop something out. (not to mention crazy fandom (present company excluded) running to theaters as soon as it arrives)
And since he's not using only Hobbit, but appendixes and Silmarillion, there is enough to stretch it :)
You have to admit it's funny: LotR 1000+ pg = 3 movies
Hobbit 200+ pg = 3 movies

Yep, you fixed it. :D
Challenge sounds great. We should work something out that can go for everybody (not just few of us that reads too much :D)

cool.

It is funny, LotR had to have 3 books to get 3 films. Then again by the time Jackson got to The Hobbit he'd already 'practised' on LotR so he probably had a better idea of what he was doing.

I do like challenges even though it's rare that I start and finish a book in the same month.

I know. I don't think it would be fair that only few of us are playing only beacuse we are reading more. I was thinking (and I'm asking here your opinion Hobbits) that while we are reading books for challenge, rest of you are looking for a book or cover that would fit it. (but we'll have to think something to make it more complicated to you) :)

message 105: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments To be honest, at the moment real challenge for me would be to finish the books I'm reading. :)
One is almost done, and than I'm going for few quick reads.
*checks team challenge*
I'm behind schedule! I've never been behind schedule!

message 106: by md (new)

md | 83 comments I'm not sure how you'd make it more complicated. I suppose you could limit it to new-to-you authors/authors you've already read, or authoer first or surname letters or by genre or series/non series book, or books you own/can get at the library, or by setting or author's country of birth (or US state) or continent umm.... authors that team members who are reading a lot of books have read? Or maybe books you've started/finished in that month... might depend what the challenge is? I'm currently all out of ideas at the minute.

*goes to look* mine doesn't say anything yet but I think I spent most of the last challenge behind on books and then caught up right at the end (and then promptly started and finished a book in the same month that wasn't eligible for the main challenge lol). Not enjoying it?

And I'm back on track :D

I was thinking something in those lines, but half of what you suggested didn't cross my mind. Thank you :D

Not that I don't/didn't enjoy them. I would give up on them if I did. It's just they are on longish/slowish side. And it's not helping that I keep switching between them, or reading something else (or spend too much time on GR ☺)

message 108: by md (new)

md | 83 comments yay!

I also just thought about books that are movies (though given we were talking about that it probably should have occurred to me earlier).

I'm reading more research/non-fiction type books which are a bit slow going

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Reading Full Blooded (Jessica McClain, #1) by Amanda Carlson

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I like the mini challenges. Sometimes it is the only way I force myself through a book that is taking me a long time to read. I was also thinking that some of the mini challenges could just be bookcovers not reading challenges to include the members that don't read as fast as some of us. It would probably add more books to my TBR that way as well. I am constantly getting distracted by interesting books.

For example, my weekly(Sun-Sat) reading changed yesterday.

Finished:
Frozen Heat (Nikki Heat, #4) by Richard Castle - Confessions of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson

Still reading:
The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Starting:
The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey, #2) by Julie Kagawa - The Vatican Diaries A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Power, Personalities, and Politics at the Heart of the Catholic Church by John Thavis - Truth Stained Lies by Terri Blackstock - The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I have added the link to the moderators team summary spreadsheet to the post with our spreadsheet link at the beginning of the thread. These will always be there for you to check at any time.

Our weekly posts for updates will also include these links, so you do not have to keep going back to the first page if you are not inclined to.

Yes. Finished on and after April 12th. Even if you put it on the shelf, challenge wouldn't count it.
I'm using same shelf as in first round, so there are more books on it than counter shows.

Yes, finding bookcovers would be a good idea. Maybe we could help each other find books? So some people would find books with blue covers, others would read them. (Similar to Tea's idea, though obviously it needs expansions)
I also think we should have different options to let people read however many books for the mini-challenges as they want. (So a single book with a blue cover, for example, or a spell it out challenge of the word hobbit for people who read more)
Opinions?

Why do you think I read that book? :) There is also librarian, peanut butter, chips, jewels, beer, cookies (I think)
Actually that was one of the reasons, other one is eggs on cover :D

Do you know I don't have single book with yoyo in it!

There is a series read for Sherlock Holmes in The Challenge Factory group. Are you doing that one? I am, but I am only on the second book, The Sign of Four.

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments Finally finished Fall of Giants (The Century Trilogy #1) by Ken Follett ! My first read for the team and I know I'm behind most of you but it was a tome of a book. The trouble with such heavy books is that I read them slow at first and then rush myself towards the end for they seem like a drag.

Still I enjoyed this one by Ken Follett. Now hunting for a lighter read...

Dee Gonzalez (chacho65) I had a co-worker comment on my "big" book..11/22/63 is 800+ pages. Initially I took offense, (we don't get along) then I was proud that I ENJOY reading and enjoy reading books that may take me the rest of april and half of May to complete. I think she reads as well however, she is extremely mmmm religious and only reads spiritual books. I am sometimes shocked when people give me a look like "wow you read"...HA. I must look like a rebel who doesn't read or something.

Okay-well I just had to vent. :) Everyone have a great weekend..

I get an opposite reaction since I work in a library. Some people think I must read every book and can tell them whether a book is good or not. Yes, I am a quick reader, but who can read every book that comes out?!? Also, the majority of what I read(usually, but lately I have been branching out) is mystery, romance or teen, so there are lots of areas I am not so familiar with.

I have heard that 11/22/63 is a good book and is recommended to me so it is on my TBR. I will be interested to see if you like it.

I have the Count of Monte Cristo on my TBR list for this year as well. when I was younger I only read Stephen King and Dean Koontz, refusing to read anything else. Now I read just about anything expect Romance and by romance I mean Harlequin Romance type novels. I do like thriller and mystery as well. I'm not really sure of what Genre is what..

11/22/63 is pretty good so far. I am an avid fan of JFK and his assassination..so I hope it lives up to what I expect it to be. :)

message 147: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I'll read everything except horror books. :) I've read Stephen King once and had nightmares for week after it. When I told that to SK fan, he laughed so hard because according to him, that was not typical SK but something 'light'. I decided to stay clear of him and authors like him. For my own good. :D

Let us know how's book going :D
