Cerulean (AKA “Hobbit Blue”)
Jojiwoji wrote: "Pretty sure I fixed it.Basically its a link to Wild Blue Yonder's mini challenge"
Yep, you fixed it. :D
Challenge sounds great. We should work something out that can go for everybody (not just few of us that reads too much :D)
It's Kilicool.
It is funny, LotR had to have 3 books to get 3 films. Then again by the time Jackson got to The Hobbit he'd already 'practised' on LotR so he probably had a better idea of what he was doing.
I do like challenges even though it's rare that I start and finish a book in the same month.
md wrote: "I do like challenges even though it's rare that I start and finish a book in the same month."I know. I don't think it would be fair that only few of us are playing only beacuse we are reading more. I was thinking (and I'm asking here your opinion Hobbits) that while we are reading books for challenge, rest of you are looking for a book or cover that would fit it. (but we'll have to think something to make it more complicated to you) :)
To be honest, at the moment real challenge for me would be to finish the books I'm reading. :)One is almost done, and than I'm going for few quick reads.
*checks team challenge*
I'm behind schedule! I've never been behind schedule!
I'm not sure how you'd make it more complicated. I suppose you could limit it to new-to-you authors/authors you've already read, or authoer first or surname letters or by genre or series/non series book, or books you own/can get at the library, or by setting or author's country of birth (or US state) or continent umm.... authors that team members who are reading a lot of books have read? Or maybe books you've started/finished in that month... might depend what the challenge is? I'm currently all out of ideas at the minute.*goes to look* mine doesn't say anything yet but I think I spent most of the last challenge behind on books and then caught up right at the end (and then promptly started and finished a book in the same month that wasn't eligible for the main challenge lol). Not enjoying it?
md wrote: "I'm not sure how you'd make it more complicated. I suppose you could limit it to new-to-you authors/authors you've already read, or authoer first or surname letters or by genre or series/non series..."And I'm back on track :D
I was thinking something in those lines, but half of what you suggested didn't cross my mind. Thank you :D
Not that I don't/didn't enjoy them. I would give up on them if I did. It's just they are on longish/slowish side. And it's not helping that I keep switching between them, or reading something else (or spend too much time on GR ☺)
yay!I also just thought about books that are movies (though given we were talking about that it probably should have occurred to me earlier).
I'm reading more research/non-fiction type books which are a bit slow going
I like the mini challenges. Sometimes it is the only way I force myself through a book that is taking me a long time to read. I was also thinking that some of the mini challenges could just be bookcovers not reading challenges to include the members that don't read as fast as some of us. It would probably add more books to my TBR that way as well. I am constantly getting distracted by interesting books. For example, my weekly(Sun-Sat) reading changed yesterday.

I have added the link to the moderators team summary spreadsheet to the post with our spreadsheet link at the beginning of the thread. These will always be there for you to check at any time. Our weekly posts for updates will also include these links, so you do not have to keep going back to the first page if you are not inclined to.

And thank you for telling me about internet. Now I won't bother you all the time (just once a week :D)
Aww ! you never bother me , your messages always bring a big smile to my face :D
Dee wrote: "Only books we've read after 4/12 count toward this round correct?"Yes. Finished on and after April 12th. Even if you put it on the shelf, challenge wouldn't count it.
I'm using same shelf as in first round, so there are more books on it than counter shows.
Karen wrote: "Turtlecollector wrote: "I like the mini challenges. Sometimes it is the only way I force myself through a book that is taking me a long time to read. Turtlecollector wrote: "I like the mini challenges. Sometimes it is the only way I force myself through a book that is taking me a long time to read. I was also thinking that some of the mini challenges could just be boo..."Yes, finding bookcovers would be a good idea. Maybe we could help each other find books? So some people would find books with blue covers, others would read them. (Similar to Tea's idea, though obviously it needs expansions)
I also think we should have different options to let people read however many books for the mini-challenges as they want. (So a single book with a blue cover, for example, or a spell it out challenge of the word hobbit for people who read more)
Opinions?
Just put that Carly Philips book on hold at my library and I might have to read that other book. I need to find a book with Easter Bunny for a scavenger hunt.
Turtlecollector wrote: "Just put that Carly Philips book on hold at my library and I might have to read that other book. I need to find a book with Easter Bunny for a scavenger hunt."Why do you think I read that book? :) There is also librarian, peanut butter, chips, jewels, beer, cookies (I think)
Actually that was one of the reasons, other one is eggs on cover :D
Do you know I don't have single book with yoyo in it!

I haven't found yoyo yet either.

Good job :)Took a break from Grave Mercy to read the Iron King, now that I've finished that I've gone back to reading Grave Mercy.
Turtlecollector wrote: "There is a series read for Sherlock Holmes in The Challenge Factory group. Are you doing that one? I read the Hound of the Baskervilles last year, but will be re-reading it for the challenge. :D
Finally finished
! My first read for the team and I know I'm behind most of you but it was a tome of a book. The trouble with such heavy books is that I read them slow at first and then rush myself towards the end for they seem like a drag.Still I enjoyed this one by Ken Follett. Now hunting for a lighter read...
Jojiwoji wrote: "Hmmmm... this looks like a good idea... Anyone want me to start up a challenge?"
Jojiwoji you got me lurking. Im honored that you used my mini challenge as reference. I didnt have any problems with the link.
If you still need it here's the link Im using

Just a quick checkin right now since I am still at work for the next 2 hours. Sanz, I will get you updated on the spreadsheet when I get home tonight. I enjoyed The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, but it did take awhile to read.
Gemma wrote: "Finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? last night, just picking out my next read."I have updated the spreadsheet, but this book doesn't seem to be on your shelf yet? Please try to do that ASAP ;)
I had a co-worker comment on my "big" book..11/22/63 is 800+ pages. Initially I took offense, (we don't get along) then I was proud that I ENJOY reading and enjoy reading books that may take me the rest of april and half of May to complete. I think she reads as well however, she is extremely mmmm religious and only reads spiritual books. I am sometimes shocked when people give me a look like "wow you read"...HA. I must look like a rebel who doesn't read or something. Okay-well I just had to vent. :) Everyone have a great weekend..
P.S. I'm so glad I found Goodreads and this group. I like that there are people who LOVE a good book as much as I do....but I particularly like that I've met people from all over the world..that's the best part.

Some people think I must read every book and can tell them whether a book is good or not. Yes, I am a quick reader, but who can read every book that comes out?!? Also, the majority of what I read(usually, but lately I have been branching out) is mystery, romance or teen, so there are lots of areas I am not so familiar with.
I have heard that 11/22/63 is a good book and is recommended to me so it is on my TBR. I will be interested to see if you like it.
Gemma wrote: "I loved The Pillars of the Earth Turtlecollector, good to hear you enjoyed it too."Next month there is a challenge I need to read a 1000 pg book for, so I am planning to read the second book World Without End.

I'm not the only one with 'small' books in near future. :) I'll also need to read 1000+ pg book (different challenge) and I'm going with The Count of Monte Cristo and there is A Song of Ice and Fire series I've been planning to read for some time :)
❀Tea❀ wrote: "Turtlecollector wrote: "Next month there is a challenge I need to read a 1000 pg book for, so I am planning to read the se..."Oh, good! I'm not the only one with 'small' books in near future. :) ..."
I have the Count of Monte Cristo on my TBR list for this year as well. when I was younger I only read Stephen King and Dean Koontz, refusing to read anything else. Now I read just about anything expect Romance and by romance I mean Harlequin Romance type novels. I do like thriller and mystery as well. I'm not really sure of what Genre is what..
11/22/63 is pretty good so far. I am an avid fan of JFK and his assassination..so I hope it lives up to what I expect it to be. :)
I'll read everything except horror books. :) I've read Stephen King once and had nightmares for week after it. When I told that to SK fan, he laughed so hard because according to him, that was not typical SK but something 'light'. I decided to stay clear of him and authors like him. For my own good. :DLet us know how's book going :D
Turtlecollector wrote: "I have heard that 11/22/63 is a good book and is recommended to me so it is on my TBR...."I read and pretty much liked it. I love most all Stephen Kings' books and he writes extremely well; but, his books are getting more political as the years go by. I rated it 4 stars. :D

Wow 1000 pages in a month would be too much for me I think!
Let me know how it goes though, I haven't read any of his other books.

The mods seem awful quiet lately. Do you think they are busy reading?

Sorry, went to bed :)
It's Kili
(view spoiler)[
Jackson did plan it as 2 movies, but during filming it he changed his mind. He said he got so much good material that he felt sorry to drop something out. (not to mention crazy fandom (present company excluded) running to theaters as soon as it arrives)
And since he's not using only Hobbit, but appendixes and Silmarillion, there is enough to stretch it :)
You have to admit it's funny: LotR 1000+ pg = 3 movies
Hobbit 200+ pg = 3 movies["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
