Dee Gonzalez (chacho65) @Tea-I am playing..it's my summer "thing" :-) I've been playing since I was 9 and just absolutely love it...I usually try to take a book w me to the field for the time I have in between games...but it usually ends up staying in the car.

message 52: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I wasn't reading that much either before. I always depended on library, and over here (Croatia) we don't have that big selection of books in English.
Then I started reading ebooks and number just started growing. I had more books to choose from, more authors, more genres, so I just started reading more. Not to mention that I didn't have to go to library every few days, or to wait for the book to come. Things like that slow down reading (at least for me).

Dee, my 'summer thing' is shadow in the nature, something to sit in, cold drink or ice cream and book. I'm too lazy for anything else. :D

Just tell us when you have game and we'll cheer (from different parts of the world and different time zones, but who cares!)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I use to be the scorekeeper for my dad's softball team when I was in high school. I played for a couple of years as a kid, but never really got into it. Soccer was my sport. I played that for 12 years.

I read so many books because I am a fast reader and don't really do much else in my spare time. I am single and live alone, so when I am not at work(and sometimes at work since I work in a library) or visiting family, most of what I do is read. Although I have a NOOK, I still prefer to have the actual book in hand.

I like to do things at home mostly: play board games, knit, crochet, cross-stitch, watch TV(crime shows). But I also like to take bike rides and go to plays at our community theater.

Turtlecollector, are you still around? Because I want to run something by you about our goal!

message 57: by joanne (new)

joanne (cabeswaters) Feel like all the conversation is taking place as I sleep...

I'm on holidays, so that means two weeks of pretty much just reading. Like Turtlecollector, I do prefer reading hard copy books over ebooks, preferably paperback but I do get ebooks when I'm too impatient

In the summer I am part of the school's rowing club, I usually row a schoolgirl quad.

Softball isn't really big in Australia, mainly cricket and soccer

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I am back now mods, and should be around here for awhile. I am reading while keeping an eye on GR so it may take me a few minutes to respond.

How to "Refresh" a Member's Total or Add a Comment to Their "view books" Screen:

We are using ♥Robin♥ on Atomic Tangerine for this example:

• Scroll down to your friends, who are listed first, or down futher to "community."
• Click on either the percent numbers or the words "view books" (red arrow)
• You can enter a comment on this screen (blue arrow), if you desire, or wait for the next one.

• On this screen you can see her total books jumped from 2 to 4.

• If you click on her name (blue arrow), it will hyperlink to her Profile page.

• Pink arrow shows comments by other members.

• If you hit the back arrow to go back to the community page, you'll see she is back to 2 books; just refresh the page.

• The Total goal for all participants may take anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes.

• The cache usually updates every night sometime after 9 p.m. PST.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments First stalking report :D

@Karen - you said you finished a book, but you didn't put it on your shelf for this challenge.

@Ezi - going through your read shelf, you have 2 books that can count for this challenge (Forever and My Liege of Dark Haven). Every book finished on/after April 12th counts. :D

That's it for now. :)

message 63: by Sanskriti (new)

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments Hey guys!I'm a lil late in signing in but I'm all set now. My shelf name is tower-team-read-cerulean.

Reading a couple of books currently, but had a slow weekend so that was a slight disappointment. Hope to catch up during the week.

Looking forward to having a good time chasing the goal for Round Two.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Welcome Sanz :D Glad you found us :D
No problem about your reading. I'm dragging few books myself (need to find some quick reads!).

Could I just ask why you lowered your goal to 50? Did you lower your yearly goal or just for this challenge? We need your yearly goal (no matter how many books you've already read or will read this year). For now this challenge is going to be year long (till April 2014)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I don't know how many of you sneak in other teams' threads. One of them had interesting tips for winning this challenge.
I don't want to be sued for stealing ideas, so I'm going to link you there. ☺
Please do it quietly so they don't know we are using their tactics. :P

message 66: by Sanskriti (new)

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments @Tea.. Don't know why my numbers show as 60 here. I remember quoting 50 as my goal during my sign-ups for Round II. Perhaps I missed something somewhere.

No issues though. Will revise my goal to 60.

message 67: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Thanks Sanz. Don't worry, we won't force you to read more than you can. We just need right number to even out our team goal. :D
Anyway, mods are thinking about lowering goal we are trying to reach, because current one (1350) will take to long :D

message 68: by md (new)

md | 83 comments I was wondering how we were meant to be done well before next year without more people joining

message 69: by Gemma (new)

Gemma I think we will all need to read non-stop to make it!

message 70: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Looks like lots of us were wondering about that. :D There was some kind of mix up. They are thinking about few options now, one of them being lowering goal, other reaching 1350 without time frame (others are variations of those two).

My sincere apologies, Sanz! Totally an error on my part. Please leave your goal at 50; it helps balance the Team number better.

Maybe subtracting the books already read up till the start date from our goals? Looking at it, 243 was my goal at the beginning of the year, not from April 12th onward. :D

Team Assignments - Master Copy

New feature coming: link to member's "view books" screen. Blue font indicated there is a hyperlink, as member joined sucessfully; black indicated no hyperlink, as member has not yet done so.

Remember, you can hyperlink to member's Profile from that screen.

TEAM UPDATES

If you don't want to go from challenge to challenge but still want to know the other teams' results we set a Teams Sunday Update Summary Spreadsheet - Who is in the lead?

Happy Readings!

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Welcome Sanz! Well our team is all here and looks like we are well on our way! Go team!

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I am little behind on my reading schedule right now due to this weekend of setting all this up, but I hope to catch up a little today. I have 2 books I can probably finish today and I hope to get a good start on a few more.

Plan to finish today:
Frozen Heat (Nikki Heat, #4) by Richard Castle - Winter's Passage (Iron Fey, #1.5) by Julie Kagawa (too short) - The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Hope to get a good start on:
The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey, #2) by Julie Kagawa - Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu - Truth Stained Lies by Terri Blackstock - Confessions of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson (may be able to finish this one as well, his books are usually a quick read for me)

A rower--that's pretty awesome. The only rowing I've ever done is in the gym..BORING!! :) I also tried soccer and I liked it because it was great cardio, I'm not that good at that sport but I'll try any sport at least once. I would love to be on a 2 week hiatus from work. But in order for me to read for that whole 2 weeks, I would have to leave my house and go somewhere tropical where I am REQUIRED to do nothing. :)

We would keep you updated weekly, so you wouldn't have to. Unless you wanted to know changes on daily base. :)
Our spreadsheet has something similar. Just not updated yet. :)

I have a couple of books on my currently reading tab from last week, but I haven't actually started them (ie. shadow kiss by richelle mead), will they still count towards this bookshelf?

i plan to actually begin shadow kiss on Wed.

I must admit, I was sneaking into the teams' captains chats for ideas before the team threads were opened. Now I guess I may have to continue that over here as well:)

Suddenly I want to watch The Hobbit again. *sigh*

message 97: by md (new)

md | 83 comments I know that feeling!! though at the minute I'm slightly distracted trying to work out who it is in your icon. Have you worked out how they're going to make it into 3 parts? I can see it being two easily enough but I'm not sure about 3.
