It could be 7 people reading same book. But all of them need to participate in discousion, not just read it.
Leather Jackets planned to do buddy read next month as their group challenge so they are going to use those books. You can join them if you want, when they are set up. (books: The Shining Girls; The Hobbit; Dracula; The Restorer; The Birth of Venus)

That's OK. I just asked if someone wanted to do something specific. For instance, you've noticed that 7 of your planned books can go for cover category (remember it doesn't have to be whole cover) so you ask us to leave that one for you.
If you have your books planned it's easy to see where you can use them. Since I don't plan what to read, I can go for everything.
Or you can read what you want and check if any 'enemy' already has that book read for this challenge :)

I think that at least we should decide (even those who don't want to play) what categories are we going to cover.

message 653: by Melissa (ladybug) (new)

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments I also never plan my books ahead of time. I believe that I would have no problems with either #5 (now I understand it lol), #6 or #7

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments If we are voting, I'm for changing buddy reads for something else.
I don't have anything against them, but when I did them they were slowing me down. And usually I started reading something else during them (they are set few chapters/day) and forgot all about BR :D

md | 83 comments I looked at them and the BOM but at the minute the only book I can get out the library is the Justin Cronin one and I'm not sure I'd get that finished in 7 weeks

You can read it if you want to. You don't have to read it for this challenge. We'll probably switch BR with something else. ;) Looks like nobody is very trilled with BRs :D

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I would definitely be willing to switch the BR with any one of the other categories. I like to be free to change my books and would have a hard time reading to a set schedule.

Excellent example, md. Thank you for spelling it out so nicely. ☺

June Hobbit Games Challenge

How many points can you achieve in June?

10 pts each - books 160-250 pgs

1 pt each - books 251-500 pgs

5 pts each - books 501 and over

*****************************************************

This is a less intimidating complicated game (if you are confused about the inter-team game) with just three rules. Participation occurs at the same time so any books read can count toward both games if you want them to. In this game it is possible for slower readers to get the same amount of points as the faster readers if they can read several smaller books, since I looked at our book lists and most of the faster readers' books are between 250-500 pages.

1. Books must be finished in June, but not necessarily started in June.
2. Books must fit into one of the 3 page count areas.
3. Have fun reading!

As always, participation is NOT mandatory. Please only participate if you want to and will have fun doing so.

That sounds like it might be fun to read. What did you think of it?

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments It was fun. Sheep's point of view :D
It was also little slow for me but that could be formatting thing. I hate (and have trouble reading) when there is bad formatting. In this case, margins were to big and that was distracting for me :(
If you want that kind of thing, try Dog on It (A Chet and Bernie Mystery, #1) by Spencer Quinn - dog's point of view :D

I'll be reading next month The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas . It can be used for spelling (T, C, A, D) or as 7 words (title + author). I'll check if one of 'enemy' has it :D

Seven Percent Solution
Cool Text: Logo and Graphics Generator

SOME CHANGES and an EXAMPLE:

The letters “N.B.R.C.” have been added to Category #5.

md, from Cerulean (AKA “Hobbit Blue”) provided this example, which I tweaked a bit to include an example of a series name and to include the newly added letters.
You're not allowed to reuse a letter and since “N.B.R.C.   T.O.W.E.R.   T.E.A.M.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.” only has two letter 'T's in it that's all your allowed to have. We couldn’t read 7 books that qualified for the letter 'T,' we'd have to pick another letter.

For example:

B - The Bridgertons #4 - Romancing Mister Bridgerton

T - The Da Vinci Code
O - The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
W - Where'd You Go, Bernadette

T - Tom's Midnight Garden
E - Everything is Illuminated
M - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

We've completed challenge #5 because we've read 7 books (and used 7 letters).

If we wanted to do this challenge again instead of doing one of the others (say #4) we can do so; but, we can only choose from the letters we haven't used already.

In this example it would be: “N.R.C   E.R.   A.S.   R.E.A.D.I.N.G.   C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.”

We're allowed to do it a 3rd time, but we would only be able to choose from the letters that are remaining.

The letter 'E' appears 5 times so that would mean there could be 5 books that qualify for that letter and the remaining 2 books would have to be another letter.

message 665: by joanne (new)

joanne (cabeswaters) Are we keeping or ignoring #4?

If not, I think #5 or #6 would be the easiest to do twice.

I think the easiest way to decide would be vote.

Personally, I prefer to read at my own pace, often I set aside books for up to 2 weeks to read other books, then in a burst read the rest in a day. Thus I prefer not to BR, as I will probably take way too long to read the book.

The other option is to see how many BRs we can arrange(though I prefer not to, I can still do some if necessary).
If we can organise 7, we keep the category, if not, we skip.

Thoughts?

~ For August the Mods are Taking the Month Off
...and Letting You Do the All the Work ~

Team Captains, Co-Captains and Team Members may create and submit their own challenge for Book Advantage Points.

It may be one of your previous mini-challenges, or one in the works.

The challenge must last two weeks, you decide when in August.

Each Team will do their own challenge that they created.

Please submit your ideas, detailing your goals and time period by July 26th for review.

We will look them all over before deciding upon the number of Book Advantage Points to be given. We may then ask you to tweak your challenge a bit to make it equal in ease or difficulty, depending on what the other Teams are doing.

HINT: Think light, easy, breezy, and FUN!

~ Frequently Asked Questions -
Q1. "We're feeling really lazy. May we just copy another Team's idea?"

A1. Definitely. Just give credit where credit is due.

Q2. "Should we use the cupcakes in some way?"

A2. While there will be cupcakes offered to win during your Teams' challenge period, we will save using them for future months.

Ezinwanyi~For you, Agron wrote: "Can anyone tell me what I can't add City of Ashes as a bookcover in this post?"

Ezin, GRs is experiencing a glitch this week-end with regards to looking up certain books.

A "work around" is to go to the book's Home Page and copy the ISBN # or ASIN #, in this case 1416914293. Paste that into the look-up.

City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare

It took me 20 min to figure that out earlier today. I was trying to update some of my challenges and it wouldn't find some books I knew I already had on my read list. I could see them on my shelf, but I couldn't type them in to add the link. I finally tried ISBN and that worked.

He hid it and you still finished 3 books! I am impressed. I am sorry for the rain. Where I am, we have had rain for the past few days after two weeks of sunshine and summer weather and everyone is complaining about where the sunshine went.

I have discovered over the past 35 years of my life that the people who complain the most are native to the area(including myself). You would think that growing up in the Pacific Northwest would desensitize us to rain, but we really like sunshine and warm weather. I even have a T-shirt proclaiming 'Washington Rain Festival' to last Jan 1 - Dec 31. Although I now live in Oregon, the weather is similar to where I grew up(just a teensy bit less rain).

For the color ahead part of the challenge we will need books with pink covers.

For the color behind part of the challenge it looks like we can use magenta, blue, red or orange covers.

That should give us plenty of options for those books.

I know, it is really hard. I have two more books I have to finish by the end of May, but the new ones I am starting I want to make sure they are ones I won't finish until next Saturday. I hate the idea of not finishing more books this month though. I still have 4 days and I don't think I can last that long without reading anything and it usually only takes me a day or two to finish a book.

I have been distracting myself with updating all my challenges and organizing spreadsheets and doing laundry, but I think I will still have the two needed books finished today. And then I will have 3 more days of waiting to finish something. Maybe I will have to start more books than I originally planned so it will take longer to read all of them.

You can start the books now, the challenge said they had to be finished in June.
