No, your goal is still 10. That 20 in that post is percent read. You've read 2 books from 10 of them and that's 20%. There is % at the top of numbers.
If you want to check your goal, go to post #4

Should I do it that way (with goal and percents) in weekly updates? Or do you want to see how many books you've read instead? Or both?

Oh, cruise! Where to?
In any case, have fun! :D

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I hope you have fun. My mom wants to take a cruise, but I don't think my dad would handle it very well. He has some medical issues and the whole family went to Wisconsin for a week last summer for a family reunion and my grandmother's 85th birthday and he did not handle that well, although a bit better than expected.

He gets frustrated easily and does not like to be cooped up in one spot, but when he is not familiar with the area and since he cannot drive or go on the lake, he was stuck in the house or yard most of the time. If talking to his own family all day made him restless, I don't think being stuck on a ship with a whole bunch of strangers would be very peaceful for him. He is also not very tactful or responsive to social norms anymore and would probably offend everyone he came into contact with at some point.

Dee Gonzalez (chacho65) @tea..I guess I'm confused about the whole goal thing. When I signed up for round one of the Tower read I set my goal as 5 for that round and I read 3..then when I signed up for this round it has now increased to 10..and I've only read two..my personal goal and what I set for the Goodreads challenge for 2013 is 10..and to date I have 7 toward that goal...can you see why I'm completely confused. :-P Any clarity would be extremely extremely helpful.

No problem.
When you signed here you gave Lisa Kay your yearly goal (in your case 10). This challenge started on April 12th, and any book read since then counts. Not from the beginning of the year.
We were put in teams so our total goal is around 1350, which was set as challenge end. There was little miscalculation at the beginning so this challenge (at the moment) is year long (and not till the end of the year). So, it will end in April 11th 2014.
To summarize: You are still be reading your yearly goal (10 books), just at this case year is April 12th 2013 till April 11th 2014 :D

There was some talk about changing final goal so the game will finish sooner. Since there was no announcement about that so far, I'm guessing we are still on for 1350 till April 11th or when some team reaches it.

If you feel your goal is to high (or low), let us know and we'll contact Lisa Kay for changing it.

For the rest of May, let's see how many blue covers we can find on the books we read. You do not need to have read the edition that has the blue cover, but if there is an edition, please post it.

For example, here are two of my books I just finished that have an edition with a blue cover.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple No One Left to Tell (book, #13) by Karen Rose

Also, coming soon:
A new Hobbit Game that will be based number of pages in the book read.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Great! I just went through my reader and I have one blue cover on it! I guess I used all of them in RaT. :D

Just to clear the air... How much blue does the cover need to be counted?
Examples (let's say these don't have other covers):
Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne, #1) by Robert Ludlum To Catch an Heiress (Agents of the Crown, #1) by Julia Quinn ?

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I would say the first two, but not the third book. Although the first two are not completely blue, they give you the impression that blue is an important color on the cover. The third one has blue on the cover, but the overall impression is a red cover.

June & July Challenge posted here.

message 634: by ❀Tea❀ (last edited May 22, 2013 12:52AM) (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments As you can see, Mods have new game for us.
You don't have to participate if you don't want to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Seven Percent Solution ~
For seven weeks in June and July, the challenge we put forward to all the Teams is 7%! If only one Team completes this task, we will award them seven (7) additional books/points. If it is split, as it was for May, we will award each Team reaching the goal four (4) additional books/points. Any Team that completes at least three (3) of the following categories, for a total of 21 books, will receive a one (1) book advantage.
It is NOT mandatory that all Team Members participate. You may do this challenge as a Team, or have only one member do it. Yes, one member may do one book or some or all seven books from one category. For example, one member may read, for Category #2 Color of the Team Ranked Ahead, three books and leave the remaining four for their other Team Members.
In addition, if a Team Member says they are NOT going to participate due to time constraints or lack of interest, but a watchful Captain or Co-Captain notices that one of their books applies towards a challenge category, said Captain/Co-Captain may use the book.
GOAL : Your Team’s mission is to read 49 books. That would be seven books from a choice of seven categories. Yes, you may read 14 books from one category that you adore (essentially doing it twice), and ignore another completely. However, you may NOT read two books from one category and five from another to equal seven. Nor, if you are doing a category twice, read 10 from one and four from another.
DURATION: June 1 - July 19, 2013. You have seven weeks to complete this challenge. This would only include any book finished in that time period.
1. “Behind Enemy Lines”: Go “Behind Enemy Lines” and have some of your members read books that are from the enemies’ bookshelves. Yes, more than one person may read the same book. Please state the Team and person from whose shelf you are stealing.
2. Color Ahead: Read books with a cover that has a predominant color of the Team ranked ahead of you in the last Sunday Update of May or June. If your Team is ranked first, then use the color of the Team ranked last.
3. Color Behind: Read books with a cover that has a predominant color of the Team ranked just behind you in the last Sunday Update of May or June. If your Team is ranked last, then use the color of the Team ranked first.
4. Book of the Month or “Buddy Read”: Read books that is a NBRC BOM or “buddy read” AND participate in the posting Discussion Questions. (Please check with Mod running the discussion about the day’s DQs for which you want to volunteer.) Yes, you may ask to have a “buddy read” set-up for a particular book. It must be posted in the regular NBRC group, under the alphabetical authors’ listings, and includes the regular NBRC members not involved in the Tower Teams Reading Challenge. You may all read the same book, or pick and choose which ones you want to read, or from those already designated.
5. Spell-It-Out: Read books whose title, author’s (first or last), or series name would spell “T.O.W.E.R. T.E.A.M.S. R.E.A.D.I.N.G. C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.” You may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, and, the), if that helps.
Special Note: You can ONLY use a letter as many times as it occurs. For example, you may have two people read a book with a title, author or series name that starts with “T,” but you may NOT have three people doing so. Yes, you only have to do seven books. Unless you choose to do it twice, or even thrice, in which case you still MAY NOT repeat the letters, unless they are repeated in the spelling.
6. From May’s R-a-T Mini Challenges: Read books with a predominantly green color; or have a flower on the cover; or are set in a favorite holiday destination; or have a moon on the cover; or have a iconic landmark or monument on the cover; or would spell out “A.N.Y. R.O.S.E.” (same rules apply as for #5). Yes, you may count one book that has a flower, one that has a landmark, and one that helps spell “any rose” to reach a combined total of seven (7) books.
7. Seven: Read books with seven letters in the title. Read books that have seven words in the title. You may include the series name, or not, and you may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, and, the), whichever is to your benefit. Or read books that are the seventh book in a series. Or are written by an author with seven letters in their first, last, or combined names - and initials, if that helps. Or you may read books, that total seven words with the title, series name, and author combined. (Example: Summer Knight, The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher.) Or if the title has the word “seven” in the title. Or read a book that was originally published in the seventh month (July). Or you may spell out “S.E.V.E.N. U.P.” using the same spell-it-out criteria mentioned above.
Countdown - start time
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Let us know what you think and if you're interested :D

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Guess, I need to plan my reading again. At least part of it :)

Sorry TC, I'm saving my blue covers for June/July. Since there are plenty blue teams, there is chance that at least one of them is going to be in front/behind us. (And other reason, I discovered that all my blue covers are in the middle of the series, and I need to read book or two to get to them :D)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For #1 we are reading 'enemy's' books used for this challenge (books you can see when you go to view books in challenge) - I'm sure I can find few interesting books :)
For #2 & #3 we need to wait for Sunday update (not mine but Mods) to see what colors we need to use. Also, we can mix them with colors from June update. We can go with TC's overall impression of the cover - depending on the cover, I have few :)
#4 Buddy reads - all of you who have BR in other groups, they don't count!. BR needs to be in this one. Good news is we/you only need two people to do BR. Check what BRs are going on here, or those who are already finished can be revived. If you find something interesting, join in (don't forget, you need to participate with discussion and asking questions for it to count). Or let us know what you plan to read in those months and we can create new BR. - there are couple of interesting books here and I already did few BR here. I just don't like that part about doing questions for discussions :D
#5 I think this one doesn't need more explanation. If I'm wrong let me know :) - maybe this one needs least planning - we can probably find enough books for here
#6 we need to decide what we'll do. Although we don't need to stick with only one. If we go in cover hunt and spelling, I'm sure we can find 7 books
#7 again we don't need to stick to only one thing. - I have few 7th books in series and depending on series willing to 'skip' to them (I wouldn't be first time :D). Also few that can be used as 7 words. I didn't check for pub month or 7 letter thing, but I think I can find few of those too
❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments If you want to play and want to do specific category, let us know so we can plan.
If you don't want to play, that's fine (but we can still use your book if it can fit somewhere).
If you want to read only one book, that's also fine.
You don't really need to decide upfront, but it would be better so we can plan what we'll read/do.
We don't need to do all categories, we just need to finish cycle - 7 books. All categories (except 5th) can be done twice (5th can be done thrice)
Since I'm not planner and I'm flexible, I can go and fill the gaps. Just please don't leave me to do all buddy reads ☺
Planned "Buddy Reads" will be in the NBRC Monthly Newsletter. Plus, you can start an impromptu one, if you desire. Or revise an old one.
md wrote: "Also does asking questions mean the official looking questions or just asking a question in amongst all your answers?
More "official" than just asking a question in amongst you answers. But still, pretty easy. Even a statement about what you feel about something, or a theory - or suspicion - about something, and asking if others got that impression, too.
Yes, seven letters from the whole thing not spelling out the whole thing. Although, if the whole thing is spelled out, it can count for 3 sections and we do not have to do one or two of the other ones if we don't have enough books for them.
Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I think the hardest one is #4 Buddy Reads, but we can replace that one with one of the other sections if we don't have 7 for it. I will do 2 of the BOMs I think. If anyone else has an interesting book, I may be able to join in that too.
I will definitely participate. I am mostly a planner as to which books I am reading in a month, but I can adjust if need be, and since I work in a library can usually find something to fit almost any challenge. I am flexible as to where my books can go. Most of the time, they will probably be able to be used to fill in where needed.
Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments I am having a hard time understanding #5. Does it say that three people in group can read books that fit #5? It is really worded weird. I could maybe understand if there was an example?
Does each person have to read 49 books each? or is it 49 for the team total? How many books does each team member have to read at the "Minimum" if they participate?
message 645: by Sanskriti (new)
Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments I can't commit to either numbers or categories for this challenge so I'm really torn at the moment.
If there is no limit on the minimum no. of books to be read by each member, then perhaps I'll keep my schedule flexible and fit in whatever I read into a category as I finish.
md | 83 comments Melissa (ladybug) wrote: "I am having a hard time understanding #5.
I had trouble trying to grasp that one too, it took a bit of working out.
You're not allowed to reuse a letter and since “T.O.W.E.R. T.E.A.M.S. R.E.A.D.I.N.G. C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.” only has two letter 'T's in it that's all your allowed to have. We couldn't read 7 books that qualified for the letter 'T', we'd have to pick another letter.
For example:
T - The Da Vinci Code
O - The English Patient - Michael Ondaatje
W - Where'd You Go, Bernadette
T - Tom's Midnight Garden
E - Everything is illuminated
M - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
C - Need by Carrie Jones
We've completed challenge #5 because we've read 7 books (and used 7 letters). If we wanted to do this challenge again instead of doing one of the others (say #4) we can do, but we can only choose from the letters we haven't used already.
In this example it would be: “E.R. A.S. R.E.A.D.I.N.G. H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.”
We're allowed to do it a 3rd time but we would only be able to choose from the letters that are remaining.
The letter 'E' appears 5 times so that would mean there could be 5 books that qualify for that letter and the remaining 2 books would have to be another letter.
*hopes this has made some sort of sense & I've understood it properly*
