Welcome fellow Hobbits to the second part of your journey!

During this part you'll have 3 guides who'll do their best to get you safe to the end. They are: Turlecollector, Jojiwoji and me (Tea). I should probably warn you that this is our first try as guides so please be patient with us.
To make this journey fun, we'll chat, play few games and most of all read good books.
Your suggestions are welcome. ☺

Let's read!

Don't forget, this game is also running now if you are participating. Jojiwoji has 1 point already and md has 20 points on the first day!

June Hobbit Games Challenge

How many points can you achieve in June?

10 pts each - books 160-250 pgs

1 pt each - books 251-500 pgs

5 pts each - books 501 and over

*****************************************************

This is a less intimidating complicated game (if you are confused about the inter-team game) with just three rules. Participation occurs at the same time so any books read can count toward both games if you want them to. In this game it is possible for slower readers to get the same amount of points as the faster readers if they can read several smaller books, since I looked at our book lists and most of the faster readers' books are between 250-500 pages.

1. Books must be finished in June, but not necessarily started in June.
2. Books must fit into one of the 3 page count areas.
3. Have fun reading!

As always, participation is NOT mandatory. Please only participate if you want to and will have fun doing so.

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Thanks. I'm still sad on losing...and of the end is Soartacus. So I'm ready to kick butt

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments That's the spirit! :)
I've formed little alliance with other two blue teams (at least to give us head start ☺)

You still need to sign in here. Every book over 160 pages you've finished on/after April 12th counts.
And if you could give me your shelf name, so I can stalk you easier :D

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Welcome to Round 2, Ezi. I was very sad to lose the last round as well after being so close.

To get this round started well, I am currently reading
Heat Rises (Nikki Heat, #3) by Richard Castle and The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

I also plan on reading
Winter's Passage (Iron Fey, #1.5) by Julie Kagawa , The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey, #2) by Julie Kagawa and Frozen Heat (Nikki Heat, #4) by Richard Castle this weekend(Sun/Mon for me); although one of those books is too short to count for this. I think I might slip in fluffy romance too. That would be a quick read for me.

Weekends I get a lot of reading done and usually only a couple during the week, but it averages out nicely. I am a homebody and prefer activities I can do at home. But really, what do you expect for the main hobby of someone who has worked in a library for the past 16 years? Skydiving?

message 12: by joanne (last edited Apr 13, 2013 06:43PM) (new)

joanne (cabeswaters) I'm very happy to be co-captaining the Hobbit blue team, please be patient as I'm new to this but I will try my best to keep everyone on track.

Last night I finished reading
Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand

I am currently reading
The Crown of Embers (Fire and Thorns, #2) by Rae Carson and Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by Robin LaFevers

And will soon start on
The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa , Lady Knight (Protector of the Small, #4) by Tamora Pierce and Skin Hunger (A Resurrection of Magic, #1) by Kathleen Duey

I'm actually currently on holidays, so should be able to get plenty of reading done

Could I please ask for everybody to remember to check in with the name of your shelf here

If people haven't joined within the next few days, I will start chasing them up

message 13: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments My turn :D

I'm listening to
The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, #2) by J.R.R. Tolkien (fitting, right? :D)

Reading to
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell and Good Omens by Terry Pratchett

There are few books that keep tempting me
One Good Earl Deserves a Lover (The Rules of Scoundrels, #2) by Sarah MacLean Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #6) by J.R. Ward The Best Man by Kristan Higgins Going, Going, Ganache (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #5) by Jenn McKinlay Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run #7) by Abigail Roux
so there is great possibility they'll be read very soon.

As you can see, there is everything on my shelf :D

message 18: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Hi guys, excited to have another go at winning!

I'm reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? at the moment (:

Just to let you all know I'm expecting a baby any day now so if I go quiet for a little while that may be why!

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Welcome to md, Gemma and Karen. I am glad to see you here. I should be getting the spreadsheet updated with your information soon.

@md - The books are OK. It takes me a little bit to get into them. Unusual for me, but I like the TV show better than the books. Could possibly be because the books came out of the TV show instead of the TV show being based on them.

@Gemma - Congratulations on the new baby! I don't have any of my own, but I watched my niece and nephew a lot when they were tiny and they were so much fun. Sometimes I like to consider them my honorary children, since I am still the favorite aunt. Although there were also times when I was very glad I could give them back to their parents:)

@Gemma and Ezi - We still need you to check in at the first two links in post 5 so that your books can be counted and to get the name of the bookshelf you are using.

message 20: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) I've checked in. I'm reading Losing It (Losing It, #1) by Cora Carmack and listening to Blood Cross (Jane Yellowrock, #2) by Faith Hunter on audio.

I haven't been able to stop watching various episodes of this seasons Spartacus: War of the Damned. I'm grieving because its ended. I'm so sad. My husband said " it's just a TV show" but I've never been so engaged to a show before. I hope Game of Thrones picks up fast so I can snap out of this funk.

Gemma: I love babies. Congrats. I hope you have help, family support so you don't get overwhelmed

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments @Dee - If you want the shelf to show up at the top of your list of shelves:

Go to My Books
Click the link at the top of the list of shelves which says (edit)
This should take you to a page with all of your shelves listed alphabetically and boxes to check on the right
Make sure the middle box for 'sticky' is checked for your shelf
When you go back to your my books page it should show up towards the top with an asterisk in front of it

You also need to make sure to go to the first two links in post 5 to join the challenge page and add your shelf so that your books will be counted in the total.

Oh, OK. I'll let the mods know.

Have you already decided what are you reading or are you 'spur of the moment' kind of person?
I always have trouble deciding upfront what to read. In those cases I usually end up with something I'm not in the mood for.

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments I have joined the challenge. My shelf is "team-read".

message 36: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Apr 14, 2013 12:08PM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Welcome Melissa!

@Dee - Can you change your intended goal back to the 10 books, please? The moderators want the yearly goal there not what you still have left to read for the year or this challenge.

My yearly goal is 320 which is what I entered, even though I have already read 91 of them.

I have already decided on the books I want to read. But, being an implusive reader..it may change. HA.

message 40: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments And mods moved end of the challenge to April 2014, so we still have whole year to read :D

message 41: by Dee Gonzalez (new)

Dee Gonzalez (chacho65) The changes have been made. :)

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments I am currently reading:

Nefertiti The Book of the Dead (Rai Rahotep, #1) by Nick Drake The Mysterious Benedict Society (The Mysterious Benedict Society, #1) by Trenton Lee Stewart and Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami

I am also very much a spur of the moment reader, so these books may not be the ones I actually finish next.

message 43: by ❀Tea❀ (last edited Apr 14, 2013 12:39PM) (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Few months ago I was one-book-at-the-time. After I finished reading one I would spend hours deciding what to read next.
So I joined challenge in one of the groups here to help me decide about next book. Then another challenge sounded interesting, then another,... So now I'm in I-have-no-idea-how-many challenges, still having trouble deciding what to read in most cases, and in those I have to decide upfront it's usually something that can't hold my interest for long. (I've been dragging with Wives and Daughters for almost a month now, and I'm still only half way through. It OK book, just going slowly. And it doesn't help that I keep reading something else to 'speed things up' :D)

To be honest I have trouble figuring out how.
At the moment we are at the teams with goals little more than 1350. Each member put in their yearly goal (in my case 200) from which some books are already read (in my case about 55 that counts). But for this challenge we are starting from 0 (those 55 already read doesn't count). I don't think I'll be able to read 200 books in less than year.
Unless we'll be getting more members

message 46: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Apr 14, 2013 01:09PM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I just sent a PM to the Moderators about that myself. It was an epiphany I had earlier today and should have thought of it sooner being a math fanatic/major in college.

message 47: by Dee Gonzalez (new)

Dee Gonzalez (chacho65) You ladies and gents-impress me with your high numbers. I know some are probably audio books..but still that's a Shiz ton of books. I listened to two audio books and after decided that I needed to actually read them..sooo Im sticking with holding the actual book. I'm really stoked that I have read 5 books so far..considering I only read 6 last year. :) I'm just about done with my 6th and am ahead of my 10 goal schedule. Which is huge considering softball season started on friday and that takes up a big chunk of my time.

message 48: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I feel better now :D
I've been thinking about that ever since I saw our team goal that first day. Didn't want to stir the waters at that time. (and I felt little stupid since I couldn't figure it out) They had enough to do without my questions. :D

message 49: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Don't feel bad Dee. :D
I'm spending practically every free second with book in my hand (having ereader helps :D)
As for audiobooks, my first and only so far is LotR, which is reread, so yes I know what's going on. I did try them before but found myself listening book on comp while following text on screen/paper. :) So I decided since I'm reading a book, no point in listening it at the same time :D

Enjoy your softball. :D
OK I have to ask, are you playing or watching?
Should we start cheerleading team here? :D

message 50: by Gemma (new)

Gemma I'm always impressed by people with big numbers too, I think the most I've ever read in a year was about 60 books and that was with serious pushing myself!
