question on Aleph

Was "Aleph" really based on your real experience? A friend of mine was very troubled by this book because of your state of mind (dissatisfaction/not knowing where you are going). He said, if Paulo, who is so highly spiritual, needs that much guidance, we are all lost. Any guidance for us? Thanks, Mago!
