Left Behind
question
The Left Behind series: Yay or Nay?

I'm trying to decide if i should read the Left Behind series. But all of the reviews I'm seeing are really negative. I'm also noticing that the people writing those reviews are not Chrisitans. (Which is fine, to each their own.) But I'm really just wondering if those that hated that book/series hated it because it wasn't an intriguing story, or if they hated it because it's a Christian book, with Christian ideals, etc?
If you liked the book did you like it simply because you're a devout Christian, or did you like it because it kept your interest and you couldn't put it down?
I really just want to read an awesome book with exciting twists and turns that keeps me up at night reading. Will I get that?

Perhaps many simply do not like the Left Behind series because the books are not that well written.
Have you ever read the Christ Clone Trilogy?
Have you ever read Pray or Hell by John Prescott?
As a Christian - I do not care for them. And I am not an agnostic nor do I ignore the bible.
They are not based on biblical facts - they are based on a man's interpretation of possible biblical events.
The authors dragged the series out - the only reason that I can figure - to fill their coffers. If I had read this series when I had Kindle, I would have returned them.

I think if you think of it as science fiction you will enjoy it. If you read most of the negative reviews, its the ideology behind this dystopian world that is offending them. They are forgetting that it is fiction.
I'm not religious at all but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you're looking for a book that's exciting, this isn't it. It is too filled with biblical references and details that take it away from any story or development. I read this as a devout Christian, and I liked it because I wanted to know what people thought would happen according to Revelations. If you're not reading it for that, it's not a very good book. It's not well written and the plot is not very interesting.
I've read the whole series & from the beginning of the 1st book I couldn't put it down. I also learned through out the books as I am Christian but I always recommend those books as well as the author.
This is probably the best series that i've read. It was thought provoking and presented a plausible end
of the world scenario. The characters were highly detailed and believable. Well written and deserves 5 stars.

Bree, it has been some years since I read the series, but I loved it. Maybe because the authors and I have the same ideas as to what will happen and may happen after Jesus comes back to earth. I could hardly put the books down and waiting for the last book to be published was torture :). I would definitely recommend the books to you to read. Non-Christians hopefully will see the "light" when reading these books but those that don't would never recommend them, at least I don't think they would.

I have read 14 of the books and have enjoyed every single one. All the characters stay thru out the books and their families. I am christian and our preacher was doing a study on end of times and he said this was as close as anyone could get to what will happen if they go by what the bible says. I wish I could have read The Rising first and then The Rapture before I started The Left Behind series but did not get them to later. I started reading these April 2013 and have read 14 when you start them it is very hard to put down. I enjoyed taking the bible and checking the books of the bible as I read. It is very right on with the scripture.
It was a wonderful series. I read the books then saw the movies. The books were far better giving more in depth views of the characters. It is a story that all should read, as it seems some of it is happening now, though it is fictional story of what might be.
I realize that this is, like, 3 months after you actually started this, but if you don't want to read the actual left behind series, the authors wrote a kids series that kind of jumps off the original, but has its own plot. It is forty books long, but the books are really short. Being made for kids, the series is not as boring as the original (I haven't gotten past the third book, yet) and it still has the awe-inspiring parts that show God's glory. I recommend them both, but definitely the kids. Although, you might want to borrow them instead of buy them:)
I read some of the books as apocalyptic fiction although the theology. The portrayal of the Catholic Church in the books is nothing short of bigoted so they lost me theologicaly very early on. While the premise of what would happen if the "rapture" were to actually happen and people just suddenly vanished from whereever they happened to be was an interesting one and was handeled interestingly enough up to a point but after a while the self rightous preachyness overburdened the storyline and I just gave up on the series.
I just read the first one and I think that is plenty enough. What kept me going was that this book is a riot to read because everything is so IN YOUR FACE. The one I read was so preachy, it makes the bible look like the Necronomicon :-D BTW I am Christian but this is too much bible belt. It makes Ned Flanders look like Satan (which he was at least once :-D).
If you like Kirk Cameron watch one of the movies and decide if this could be the right thing to invest your time into.

I recently saw a telling graphic on-line "Aetheism - a religion people join to appear smarter." I suspect that the issue which drives most non-believers running for the hills where the 'Left Behind' series is concerned is probably the deeply held hidden belief that it all may be possible after all.
I found the stories engrossing and read them all in a period of about 2 months. This comes from the perspective of what I like to call non-interpretive Christianity - what others call fundamentalism.
Deciding to read or not read the series based on other people's opinions might not be the way to go since ALL of the aetheists and ALL the people from religions that practices paganism as part of their tenants or ceremonies are going to be insulted by these books and try to steer you away from them.
I recommend them but figure what have you got to lose...read the first one and if you don't like it...stop.

Having read all 16 books Bree, it is well written and I believe makes a very strong case for what could happen, which is the idea in the first place.
It would be difficult to read this as an agnostic, or anyone who chooses to ignore the Bible and remain positive. After all, they are the ultimate loosers! In the end it is a work of fiction, based none the less on Biblical beliefs.
