J.L. (goodreadscomjloakley) | 6 comments Today, 80 years ago, (March 27, 1933) the Emergency Conservation Work act was introduced into the Senate. This act created the Civilian Conservation Corps and put over 250,000 young men to work during its first summer. They developed parks, national and state, created roads, hiking trails, and planted trees. Every state and territory had CCC camps. Save men, save the environment.

Just got back from a talk in Eastern WA where the CCCs worked with wheat farmers on a high plateau to build culverts, ditching, wells and planted barrier trees. Wonderful stories. Do you have a park near you? A CCC boys may have created it.

Lynn Lovegreen (lynn_lovegreen) The CCC worked with the Forest Service in Alaska. Near where I live, they built roads, picnic shelters, etc. in Chugach National Park. So many great projects through this program--Ken Burns touched on it in his series on the National Parks. :-)

That's neat. Are you in the SE or up near Anchorage? One of these days...

Lynn Lovegreen (lynn_lovegreen) Near Anchorage. All of Alaska is beautiful, just different regions are in different ways. You should come up one day.

Your book Tree Soldier sounds great. :-)
