Each year it holds a short story competition. Members were informed of the rules, including the maximum word count, but a press release was sent out. Some local papers carried an item and one showed the wrong word limit. None of the committee noticed. The entries were all forwarded to the judge who didn't query that there were stories of two different lengths. He chose the winner and sent his reasons to the secretary who passed the result on to the press. He had chosen one of the longer stories and praised it for its 'superior character development'. When the winning story appeared in the press, with that comment from the judge, there was an enraged reaction from many of those who had written to the shorter limit.
I'm sure that wouldn't have happened in this relaxed environment. I'm sorry I mentioned it!

Ooh, I'm at the top for a change after a miserable few contests! I wrote Little Miss Paperback dates Mr Kindle. If only I'd voted for my own, I would have won outright! Haha, only joking. All great fun. Well done to my fellow 4 votes entrant and to all the rest.

I think I was last (or joint anyway) with Mr Chav. The frustrations of my working week came out in that story.I voted for Mr Author.
That was good fun to write a story and to read the others.

Well you can either come up with something between the 2 of you together or you can nominate 1 person or you can fight to the death.Guess we could do 2 themes and let people pick which one they want to write a story about.
Anyone else have any ideas? Fight to the death might cause a bit of a mess and some heavy paperwork for Patti and Simon.
Who wrote the other joint-winner?Maybe we should have a run-off poll (Simon?)
I'm happy for the other winner to claim all the glory of setting the next challenge - as long as I get to keep all of the prize money.
If we both submit an idea Simon/Jud can pick one to put forward.
BJ, I have won once before and so already have had a go at setting a topic. I'm perfectly happy to hand the duty over to you. I don't mind either way. Maybe we could poll the ideas and then poll the entries for the polled topic. Or is that just getting silly?!

Hi Jonathan - I didn't know it was you. I was going to suggest 'The fairies at the bottom of my garden' in 200 words. Fancy inserting a random object into my fairies?
