Ask Paulo Coelho - Tuesday, April 2nd! discussion
Ask Paulo!

I am a big fan of your writings. I notice a religious impact in some of your books with all respect for Islam specially. May I ask you if have ever read Quran ?
And what about visiting Jordan ? you have a big fans here .
Best Regards,
Malaak

Can you tell us about your rituals of writing ?

I enjoyed reading The Alchimist when I was 17 years old, I read also an interview with you on Al-Arabi magazine, it was the text that gave me a lot of ideas about you.
Now I would like to ask you some questions and I hope you answer them :
1 - I want to become a novelist, I read a lot, and I feel unable to have an idea about something to write about; even if I have an idea I cannot develop it on more than 20 pages! My question is what is your advice for me? Did my problem means that I will never become a writer?
2 - You know lot about the arab world, so what are your opinions about the Arab Spring?
3 - I want a simple view on your writing method, I mean : how many pages you write before you stop and continue the next time - when you start writing, do you know what is the next idea, the final idea... or do you let the book and its personnalities influence your next part events ?
Thank you so much.

" life is a gift of GOD, and gifts are always beautiful, life is also beautiful, now it is in our hands to make it heaven or hell,"
So life goes on.. When They Came to know that they have become Capable Of Understanding the language of World,& can penetrate into The Soul of the World They Misuse it !!! do you agree with this????????????

second,i would like to know if (the alchemist/ the fifth mountain/the warrior of light) summarize your vision in life generally? as i think that the messages u send in those books are too strong and reveals a great life-time experience.

I'm not going to ask you any personal Question since your books speak more about you..
My Question is simple what do you know about Palestine and the Palestinian People I always wondered?
Much of Love :-)

My question is Which one do you think is your best book or which one do you identify more?
Paula Patricia - Mexico
Tanks!

My question:
What do you think about the increasing economization of all parts of life?
I.e., that everything and everyone is measured by its economical value and that more and more things which used to be free now cost money.

Do you believe in the perfectibility of humans or do you believe there are tragic and/or self-sabotaging flaws hard-wired into the human organism?
John Rachel

what about the small story that is found in the very first page of the arabic translated versions of your books ?!

Best,
Vamsi

algo que me gustaria saber es si cada historia plasmada en libro es parte de la imaginacion o es parte de lo vivido realmente..
saludos...

You are my favorite author in the world. I am a philosophical person and study human behavior and I am also a writer. Your background, stories, and advice remind me of the new age Herman Hesse even though you still of course unique from him. I would love to meet you - dream. I know I am a good writer but I get distracted and do not write what I feel is my true depth of experience to share - What advice do you have on finishing a book or starting over if you feel you are off track? I am a person of complexity and experience but most recently ended up working on a cheesy mystery novel not sure why. Thanks Sara

i don't really have questions, i just wanna thank you for inspiring us, every word you say is full of wisdom and truth, i don't know how a single person knows this much, i can't believe you're gonna be reading our posts!!
thank you so much,
Sarah

You you've authored the novel "Eleven Minutes" ... In one of your visits to Egypt and in the Conference you .. novel was banned from publishing in libraries ....
I have read a summary of the novel and knew what are you talking about ...
Do you see that there is a contradiction between all what you wrote and write this novel??
What was your goal when you wrote frankly?

Name 3 books that you re-read at least once a year; and please explain why.
Paulo, I'm a big fan of your writing. I find myself looking for your books like water or food and I eat and drink them like someone who is starving or dying of thirst. Thank you for writing so deeply from your soul and sharing what you have learned, with ours.
Thank you.
dee

I'm a big your fan from Bulgaria. Thanks and greet respect for the enormous influence of your books in my life. In your book i found, so far find answers to many of my questions.
My question is how do you find the answers to the questions - do you have a hero?
My best regards
Elka

You're my all time favorite author and I would be very grateful if I ever get a chance to meet you. I live in New Delhi, India. I'm just of 14 and a great fan of you. :)
I read "The Winners Stand Alone" and this book is one of my favorite books. I just wanna know when you'll come to India. And I know you can't say "no" to your small fan :P :)
Thank you!
Your small fan ^.^

how satisfied you are with all of your books ? and is there any book that you regret writing it or you feel that it didn't get the purpose of it ?!
with all love and respect ..

My question is - apart from the actual writing time, what are the things you do in your daily life that contribute to your writing and make it what it is?
I haven't yet read Manuscript Found in Accra but I can't wait - just reading excerpts tells me it is going to be another wonderful guiding light in my life.

My question is:
How do I strike a balance between letting the story tell itself and at the same time craft it without losing its original purity?

What are your top 5 books that everyone should read in their lifetime? Why?"
Nice question, Iris! Can't wait to see what he answers - and then of course will rush out and buy all five!

That's a really interesting question Shea .. we just take it for granted that Paulo will come forth with another inspiring book .. I never thought that he might feel pressured to write only in this style! Good question!

First of all I want to say that I admire your works. I read most of your books and most of them left me very draw emotionally. Thats why my question is: Are you managing to stay apart from your stories? Or are you living with all the personages in mind and soul?
Thank you.
Veronica

I haven't read many books of yours but I'm still a big fan. I just wanted to know what inspires you to write books like The Alchemist.
Thank you Sir,
Shraddha :D

I'am deeply touched by all of your works and I find some good hints and points on my solace times. My favorite is your "Alchemist". Well, I have two to three questions sir. (If you don't mind po, please! I'll be happy to know your answers po.) My questions sir is this:
"As a writer, idealist or adviser, have you ever been in a situation wherein you almost gave up in life or in work but you think twice as you thought about your own words of courage related on your works? What is that deepest downfall as of now and how did relate your works with your own life?"
Maraming Salamat po!
From Philippines with Love.
Sincerely yours,
Joanne (Love)

I am far from being a writer, I do have stories I want to share but I can't bring myself to sit and finish one
how did you start ? and what keeps you going ?
although I didn't like the Alchemist at all, sorry

and what do you advice me that i am a writer too and want to be successful like you ?
you are a great writer and i like your writing .. wish you a great life :)

I want to know what is that thing which drives you in exploring the innermost challenges? Also which book has inspired you to follow the path on which you are going in your life?
Thank You.

And do you write on paper or on a computer?! (Irrelevant, but I feel like I should know!)
Many thanks!
Muhsen!

I love your writings so much. I have read a lot of your books, and "Veronika Decides to Die" is my favorite. I also write sometimes, and you are one of many people that inspire me to keep on writing.
I just want to say thank you, because your writings have opened my mind and changed me a lot, to be a better person day by day.
Keep writing! :) I hope we could meet someday.
Sari

I wonder this too.
Not because I want to see it done, especially if the sequel written just to profit from the fans of the original (like so many movies), but whether you've ever thought about it at all.
Books mentioned in this topic
Veronika Decides to Die (other topics)The Alchemist (other topics)
The Winner Stands Alone (other topics)
The Pilgrimage (other topics)
Brida (other topics)
I've read 8 of your works, written down hundreds of memorable quotations, and I check your blog and Facebook fan page everyday. But, I can say, in sum, you have one fixed goal, although you've discussed various sides of spirituality. You want people to go after their dreams and find the one they can share their whole life with.
In Brida, the Magus asked Brida about what she would do if her search for wisdom and knowledge and the love of her life couldn't coexist and she had to choose one of them, Brida said that she would give up everything for love.
Do you think that her answer is the right thing one has to do in real life?
In 11 minutes, you wrote:
"The words 'The End' appear on the screen, and the audience knows that, from then on, they will live happily ever after.
Films never tell you what happens next, They finish before the real world begins."
Real life ,unlike novels and films, ends with death, not with a step that leads to a happy fictional ending; love doesn't last. So, what if we risked what is eternal for a temporary sentimental life? what about `regret`?
Finding Soul Mate is a dream in itself, but we all have other dreams that aren't related to our soul mates, Would the feeling of regret if we gave up everything for the love of our life be more painful than the same feeling if we lost love?
I'm sorry, my question doesn't concern your works directly, but thanks to them I'm confused.I trust your opinions and your words do touch my soul =).
A lot of thanks,
Gehad
