Hello Mr.Coelho,

I've read 8 of your works, written down hundreds of memorable quotations, and I check your blog and Facebook fan page everyday. But, I can say, in sum, you have one fixed goal, although you've discussed various sides of spirituality. You want people to go after their dreams and find the one they can share their whole life with.
In Brida, the Magus asked Brida about what she would do if her search for wisdom and knowledge and the love of her life couldn't coexist and she had to choose one of them, Brida said that she would give up everything for love.
Do you think that her answer is the right thing one has to do in real life?
In 11 minutes, you wrote:
"The words 'The End' appear on the screen, and the audience knows that, from then on, they will live happily ever after.
Films never tell you what happens next, They finish before the real world begins."
Real life ,unlike novels and films, ends with death, not with a step that leads to a happy fictional ending; love doesn't last. So, what if we risked what is eternal for a temporary sentimental life? what about `regret`?
Finding Soul Mate is a dream in itself, but we all have other dreams that aren't related to our soul mates, Would the feeling of regret if we gave up everything for the love of our life be more painful than the same feeling if we lost love?

I'm sorry, my question doesn't concern your works directly, but thanks to them I'm confused.I trust your opinions and your words do touch my soul =).

A lot of thanks,
Gehad

Imene MELLAL (imenetalk) | 1 comments Hello Mr. Paolo,

I enjoyed reading The Alchimist when I was 17 years old, I read also an interview with you on Al-Arabi magazine, it was the text that gave me a lot of ideas about you.
Now I would like to ask you some questions and I hope you answer them :

1 - I want to become a novelist, I read a lot, and I feel unable to have an idea about something to write about; even if I have an idea I cannot develop it on more than 20 pages! My question is what is your advice for me? Did my problem means that I will never become a writer?

2 - You know lot about the arab world, so what are your opinions about the Arab Spring?

3 - I want a simple view on your writing method, I mean : how many pages you write before you stop and continue the next time - when you start writing, do you know what is the next idea, the final idea... or do you let the book and its personnalities influence your next part events ?

Thank you so much.

Faheem Memon (faheemquest) | 2 comments Hi Paulo, hope you are gale and glad.. I started translating The Alchemist in Sindhi language. at the moment i am about to complete it, and there comes a news that this book is already in market translated in Sindhi. When I got this news I was shocked, but, the only thing that gave me courage and hope is that, I wanted this book to be translated in Sindhi, so that our people too could understand your philosophy, so if it is already in the market then why I am worried? This the the question I asked to myself and got relaxed.

" life is a gift of GOD, and gifts are always beautiful, life is also beautiful, now it is in our hands to make it heaven or hell,"

So life goes on.. When They Came to know that they have become Capable Of Understanding the language of World,& can penetrate into The Soul of the World They Misuse it !!! do you agree with this????????????

message 258: by Maria (new)

Maria | 1 comments I have read most of your books and find it hard to decide which is my favorite. I have narrowed it down to three: The Zahir, Eleven Minutes, and The Alchemist. I can't imagine that if I've had such trouble picking one that it would be any easier for you, but do you have a favorite?

message 259: by Mohamed (new)

Mohamed | 1 comments first, i would like to show me admiration for your great view in (the fifth mountain) although i am not totally accepting it(at least religiously).
second,i would like to know if (the alchemist/ the fifth mountain/the warrior of light) summarize your vision in life generally? as i think that the messages u send in those books are too strong and reveals a great life-time experience.

Jimmy (snowball13) | 1 comments Hi,
My question:
What do you think about the increasing economization of all parts of life?
I.e., that everything and everyone is measured by its economical value and that more and more things which used to be free now cost money.

Viridiana (labelladona) | 1 comments When I read the last pages of "The Alchemist" I wanted to cry and laugh all at the same time. I felt I was in those pages going through that journey. It changed my life forever. How did you do it...how did you come to believe in the message you gave to all of us? For I have never felt a book move me in a way that yours has. So my question to you is...What happened in your life in order for you to have given all of us a glimps of understanding in the significance of Destiny and fulfilling ours to the utmost?

message 269: by Ala'a (new)

Ala'a Hasaki As an Arabic girl, I recognized that you have mentioned Arabs several times in your books, is there any thing special about them in your opinion or any relation between you and them or it is just some kind of a foreign culture you like to talk about?

message 270: by Vamsi (new)

Vamsi Krishna (prometheus1706) | 1 comments Hi Paulo! I have read several of your books and love the imagery and the simplicity of language to keep inspiring people across the world!! I have had a confused upbringing - I wanted to be an artist while my parents wanted me to be an engineer. Nevertheless, I have persisted in pursuing my passion and I am now a fine art photographer alongside doing a full-time job. I have two questions for you : (1) Should children be allowed to make their own decisions and remain true to their hearts? (This is something I was not allowed to do which resulted in quite a bit of confusion regarding my career.) and (2) Do we always crave acceptance from the society and yet want to maintain a unique and individual identity for ourselves? (Is acceptance what builds societies?) IMHO, being unique and craving acceptance are fundamentally contradictory concepts. Your answers for these questions are sincerely appreciated!

Best,
Vamsi

saludos...

message 272: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1 comments Paulo,

You are my favorite author in the world. I am a philosophical person and study human behavior and I am also a writer. Your background, stories, and advice remind me of the new age Herman Hesse even though you still of course unique from him. I would love to meet you - dream. I know I am a good writer but I get distracted and do not write what I feel is my true depth of experience to share - What advice do you have on finishing a book or starting over if you feel you are off track? I am a person of complexity and experience but most recently ended up working on a cheesy mystery novel not sure why. Thanks Sara

message 273: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Mr. Paulo,
i don't really have questions, i just wanna thank you for inspiring us, every word you say is full of wisdom and truth, i don't know how a single person knows this much, i can't believe you're gonna be reading our posts!!

thank you so much,
Sarah

Nora | 1 comments Welcome Mister Paulo
You you've authored the novel "Eleven Minutes" ... In one of your visits to Egypt and in the Conference you .. novel was banned from publishing in libraries ....
I have read a summary of the novel and knew what are you talking about ...
Do you see that there is a contradiction between all what you wrote and write this novel??
What was your goal when you wrote frankly?

message 283: by Nazneen (new)

Nazneen Tonse | 4 comments Dear Paulo, first - thank you so much for your wonderful gifts to the world! I am so grateful, and your words have given me so much hope and strength.

My question is - apart from the actual writing time, what are the things you do in your daily life that contribute to your writing and make it what it is?

I haven't yet read Manuscript Found in Accra but I can't wait - just reading excerpts tells me it is going to be another wonderful guiding light in my life.

message 284: by Fotini (new)

Fotini (fotinikoklas) | 1 comments Paulo, thank you for this opportunity :) I am writing my first novel and it is the most passionate creative experience I have ever had. The words pour on the page from a place I do not recognise yet know so well. This novel is writing itself ; I am but a vessel for this story to be brought to life: for this I feel humility and gratitude.

My question is:

How do I strike a balance between letting the story tell itself and at the same time craft it without losing its original purity?

message 285: by Nazneen (new)

First of all I want to say that I admire your works. I read most of your books and most of them left me very draw emotionally. Thats why my question is: Are you managing to stay apart from your stories? Or are you living with all the personages in mind and soul?
Thank you.

I'am deeply touched by all of your works and I find some good hints and points on my solace times. My favorite is your "Alchemist". Well, I have two to three questions sir. (If you don't mind po, please! I'll be happy to know your answers po.) My questions sir is this:

"As a writer, idealist or adviser, have you ever been in a situation wherein you almost gave up in life or in work but you think twice as you thought about your own words of courage related on your works? What is that deepest downfall as of now and how did relate your works with your own life?"

Maraming Salamat po!

I wonder this too.

Not because I want to see it done, especially if the sequel written just to profit from the fans of the original (like so many movies), but whether you've ever thought about it at all.
