Ann, I think it would be helpful if you included Ann/Nashville or some such in your name. We aren't overpopulated with Ann's right now but it is so helpful for us former AOL'ers to be able to identify folks who migrated over, and that would instantly ID you if you don't want to go back to using your last name.

To change: go back to your home page. In the column on the right you will see "My Profile". Click on the "edit" link and you will then see the original screen you created when you join. I think first name is mandatory, right now it should read "Ann". Your last night is probably blank. You could either add your last name, or if you want to do the Nashville thing change your first name to "Ann/Nashville" or "Ann in Nashville" (don't know if it lets you put spaces in). That's how I got to be Carol/Bonadie.

I do believe that I've seen names with spaces. It doesn't hurt to try as it's so easy to change your name using the steps suggested by Carol

I confess that I'm confused, especially with all of the Debbies, Donnas, Susies who have become Susans and so forth. I may be old and set in my ways, but I think it would be nice if posters added something to their Goodreads id to help us differentiate among valued posters.

I had the "advantage" of getting used to no color or font choices when AOL cut off those options for me a long time ago. But now that everyone is the same color and font I find myself getting confused about who said what.

I carried on a proud tradition by replying to my own post earlier today on BNC. Now I'm forwarding that tradition here at the M/T. (AND testing my formatting skills at the same time with the italics--I hope)

Anyway, upon seeing the "it's so easy" comment about names I had to say that I'm glad y'all weren't treated to my late hours email tantrum the other night when my first registration at Goodreads ended up with my first and last names appearing publicly. You'd all be scoffing at me right now about the "it's so easy."

I'd rather have you scoffing at me for other reasons.

Jan O'Cat, uh-oh. Is this off-topic?

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 1798 comments I'm going to try and change mine to Susie in KS, since I'm not even using my AOL email address for Goodreads. Thanks Carol...I'm not quite sure what I'm doing yet. I may be lurking a lot :)

Gail/Ladyvolz Bowman (ladyvolz) | 343 comments I changed mine to show ladyvolz because when I first came here I didn't recognize all the "real" names......(and still don't recognize some of them)

I hadn't even noticed the lack of color for fonts, isn't that funny. I was very focused on it in AOL. It's amazing what a change of venue will do.

Gracee | 21 comments It does help to have a certain icon associated with your name. In addition to making your name "yours".
Mine icon is always my dog(s) or cat. :D If you click on the icon, they will pop up larger as well!

I'm not seeing the icons next to each post any more. I thought it might be a dial-up issue, but now I don't see them at work any more either. On the other hand, the "temporary error" page, which was appearing about every other time I clicked on anything, is no longer haunting me. I'm not sure if the two are related, but I can live without the icons and even without signatures. I just need to develop the habit of looking in that top line for the name of the poster.

Hmm.. I am seeing icons, so it isn't a system issue. Maybe Goodreads is registering a protest at your procrastination about uploading your own icon.

Lori Van Buskirk | 73 comments I can't get a picture to load for my icon. I'll keep trying though. I like having the picture of everyone to put with the names.
