Looking for a fantasy series I read once...

But I can't remember the author or the name of the series or any of the books. It is a fantasy trilogy, about wizards with staffs who bond with hawks and owls. And I think it's out of print. Does that sound familiar to anyone at all?? Going nuts trying to find it.

They bond with Hawks in The Chronicles of the Cheysuli, but they aren't called wizards and don't have staffs. And a wizard named Sparrowhawk has a hawk staff in Earthsea, but no owls.
I know it's not Earthsea, am looking up the other now.
Nope, that's 8 books, and I know this was only 3. Anyone else have a guess?
Do you remember what the cover looked like or how long they were?
Um, I want to say somewhere in the realm of 300-400 pages each. And I think the predominate color of the first book's cover was blue. I think.

@Liz.. children of the amarid is by david b. coe. it is a trilogy i believe.
