What hobbies have you encouraged your grumpy old man to take up?

I have tried for five years to get my GOM interested in something other than Stock Markets to no avail and amusing results. What have you succeeded in getting your other half to do to keep him out of your hair?
Well, my grandpa was the best guy I ever knew - loved him to bits, probably because everyone feared him and he adored me, so NO ONE could ever touch me :D
But, one of my friends always complains about her GOM going to the market to argue. He doesn't need anything - they buy all his food, they clean and cook for him, they do everything. But he still goes to the market daily to argue about prices, the quality of food and/or service. When he's had enough of arguing, he walks back home through the park, sits on a bench and smiles to himself :)
