The Eye of the World
question
Problems with this series? (Spoilers to book 11)

Before I begin I work as a data analyst and chose to listen to this series as an audio book while I worked. That said this series is as dull as my job.
I have only gotten to book 11 so far and I actually quite enjoyed the first three books, they had some interesting potential. However, after these three books the series seemed to stagnate into an over descriptive journey, well journey implies movement which at least one book in the series does not even accomplish. In my opinion this series is extremely padded
The main problem I have the ongoing plot is that it has turned into T.V. edition of Batman starring Adam West. The main characters seemed to be totally incompetent and gullible and yet they still manage to beat back the dark ones attempts to kill them. How they do this I don’t know since they seem to be warned that there is an upcoming trap and still manage to fall into it unawares. Rand being stuffed into a box is prime example. This brings into question the temperament of the dark ones ambitions since he doesn’t seem to fully commit to a scheme.
Now this may change in the upcoming books as I have heard that since Brandon Sanderson took over the reigns that the story has been brought back to the main subject of last battle. I am cautious about this though as I will be reading them from here on in and really don’t want to give the time required only to read more descriptions about how much of someone’s tits are showing.
On a positive note though I really like Matt’s story arch and it is him alone makes me swim seaweed of this series.
I would like to know if I am alone in thinking this about this series because I was bitterly disappointed from the early books to the stage I am currently at.

I'm actually sort of surprised you made it this far in the series given your feelings on it. For myself, I quite enjoyed the first three as well, but I also loved books 4-6, which were probably my favorites in the entire series. Books 7-10 were quite a slog, though, and the only reason I got through them was the connection I had with the first 6. 11 was okay, but it's rather unfortunate to note that the books didn't really start to get good again until Jordan passed away and Sanderson took over. The last three books were great again, although they felt a little rushed at times(perhaps just compared to the pace of the preceding 5 books).
